Minister of finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Minister of agriculture, Dr Akinwumi Adesina and others have been summoned by the House of Representatives over alleged N21billion rice importation tax evasion scam. According to Vanguard, the ministers and 25 rice importers are expected to explain to the lawmakers how over N21bn tax was evaded despite the provision of subsidy by the Federal Government to the importers. It was also reported the whole rice importation exercise was grossly abused by the importers and laced with fraud. Source:www.vanguardngr.com 1 Share

BlackTechnology:Even if Adeshina is acclaimed to have done well, does it mean we shouldn't look into d books when questionable deals happened under his nose, with or without his connivance? Fact: Very few government officials would escape jail terms or some form of conviction if American or trully European standards of public office are applied here. 6 Likes |

Not much information provided to dissect the article. Why invite the Ministers instead of calling EFCC to investigate if the importers evaded tax. However, if the said tax is a waiver based on the policy of the Federal Government notwithstanding whatever said subsidy provided in the budget (which may or may not have been paid to the importers) then the HOR is over-stepping its boundaries. The Executive makes the policy to drive its economic agenda. |

We never had a president in this country, just a figure head in Aso Rock. Nigeria was on auto-pilot while the people who were meant to steer her affairs engaged in a looting frenzy, each one of them trying to outdo the other. What a shame. 3 Likes |

Now, the only sector (Agriculture) that seemed to be working in this administration is now tainted with a N21B fraud. Will be waiting to hear their response. I'm hoping that it's not true, as GMB is campaigning for that guy to become the president of African development Bank. |
