Topic is so named because that is what the exercise which was initially aimed at downsizing became.
The top management executives had a meeting and decided that the bank was not making enough profit to sustain the current staff strength salaries.

The whole idea was that there are some senior officers who carry out and have the same JDs (job descriptions) with some junior staff. So why pay someone 500K to do the same thing you are paying another 120K to do? So they decided to get rid of the overpaid staff. Smart idea right?

In order to make the whole process balanced and fair, each unit/unit head was given the number of staff to lay off.
But guess what These senior staff (who are overpaid) also happens to be the unit heads and team leads. They have been around for long and have their friends and 'enemies'. Let's be frank here.....why would I fire a friend who came to my wedding, wedding aniversary, baby's dedication, naming ceremony, open house party and the rest? People I chat with and confide in? Gradually, the whole process turned into a sacking spree as unit heads, supervisors and team leads saw it as an opportunity to get rid of that 'colleague' who had in the past challenged them, that colleague who makes them uneasy, that colleague who reminds them of how empty their life is, that colleague who refuses to bond/team up with them, that colleague whose church or tribe they don't like...... in fact that colleague who for one reason or the other they do not LIKE.

At the end of the day guess who got affected?? The junior staff. While the senior overpaid and dare me say lazy staff are still enjoying the comfort of their jobs. Performance, query, warning letter, issues at work, individual files were not even put to play not to talk of been considered in this massive uncoordinated sacking spree. What was considered? '"Who are your friends?'"

I hope the EDs and MD of this great organization will wake up and revisit the whole issue and deal appropriately.

I worked there up until march when I was fired as well. I had just resumed from my annual leave when I was called into my supervisors office and given the sad news. And I kept asking my supervisor on what criterion was the selection done? But she had nothing to say.
And the sad thing is I was pregnant. How I made it home that night in one piece is still a miracle. I mean like seriously who fires a pregnant woman? Do you know the health implications involved? Its even 'sadder' that there are parents amongst the team leads who made that decision.
I have my health to think about so I am taking it easy. Though I must say that labor law is almost not existent in this country that's why employers do exactly as they wish.
Once again....which organized organization would fire a pregnant woman and damn the consequences?
