Prime Minister Of Japan, Shinzo Abe, has sent a
special message to Nigeria’s President-elect,
Muhammadu Buhari, assuring him of his country’s strong support towards the Nigerian government under his leadership. In the message personally signed by Abe, and
delivered to Buhari by the Embassy officials in
Abuja, the Prime Minister described Buhari’s success at the just concluded election as not only his own but that of other nationals. Abe assured Buhari that Japan would work closely with him to elevate the level of the two nation’s bilateral relations to a new height. The Prime Minister noted that as a leading country in Africa, Nigeria’s stability and development under Buhari would certainly contribute to peace and stability in the whole of Africa. He expressed readiness to work with Buhari and Nigeria to make the first Tokyo International Conference on Africa, TICAD, slated for Africa next year, to be successful.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Japan, I would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Your Excellency for being elected as the next president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “The conduct of peaceful transition of the power is testament of how democracy is rooted in your country. This is not only your victory but also your nationals,” the prime minister added. TICAD has been an evolving element in Japan’s long-term commitment to fostering peace and stability in Africa through collaborative partnerships. Japan has stressed the importance of “Africa’s ownership” of its development as well as of the “partnership” between Africa and the international community. The exchange of views amongst the conference delegates serves to underscore the case for more, not less assistance from the major world economies.
