Egypt coach Hector Cuper says the Pharaohs are not ready to surrender the number one spot on the Gabon 2017 Group G qualifying table, writing off Nigeria’s chances of turning the tables on his team in their reverse fixture in Alexandria on Tuesday. Italy-based Mohamed Salah scored a late equaliser to help the Pharaohs hold the Super Eagles to a 1-1 draw in their first leg clash in Kaduna on Saturday. Egypt lead the table on four points followed by Nigeria on two points. Record seven-time African champions Pharaohs would have been leading the table on seven points followed by the Eagles on five points if one of their group rivals Chad had not withdrawn from the qualifiers. Chad’s withdrawal has thrown the group into a three-team race for the sole ticket to Gabon 2017. Egypt, who had beaten Chad 5-1 in the first leg fixture, are now on four points instead of seven. Second-placed Nigeria have lost three points as well, after their 2-0 victory over Chad was declared as void. Argentine manager Cuper, who says he is happy about the performance of his team in their Kaduna draw, say they would be out to pick up all points to seal their place in the finals. The 60-year-old former Valencia and Inter Milan manager disagreed with Nigeria coach Samson Siasia that the Pharaohs came to Kaduna to pick up a draw, hence they opted for a defensive game. “Siasia has the freedom to say anything but we will attack in Alexandria and will try to win on our pitch,” Cuper was quoted by Egyptian sports outlet Kingfut as saying on Sunday. He added, “We had a strong first half from the tactical side, but in the second half we committed a lot of mistakes and will work on improving.” Meanwhile, Roma star Salah said he breathed a sigh of relief when the referee blew the final whistle as he was on his way to one-on-one chance to score because hundreds of home fans were watching the game on the side track around the court. “I breathed a sigh of relief after the ref blew the final whistle,” Salah, 23, told Al-Ahram Daily newspaper. “I was afraid when I received the ball and was heading directly towards the goal to score what could have been the winner,” Salah said. “Had I been able to score, I wouldn’t have been able to tell what exactly the fans’ response would be, that’s why I thanked God right after the final whistle.” Egypt have not qualified for the tournament since winning the last of their record seven trophies in 2010. http://www.punchng.com/eagles-wont-survive- alexandria-clash-egypt/

Amusie to me play better than Echiejile in dat LB position. His movement on the ball and passes were very good. And his technique aint bad either. Forget Club or division. Sometimes some of these things are down to luck & Agent connection. Just like i will forever prefer Musa muhammed to Ambrose on RB at anyday.
Look at Harry kane & Jamie Vardy for instance, it is the potential/talent/or form that matters not the club they came from.

Ok, "to me" it is your personal opinion but if we go by the technical facts grin on ground, Amuzie is not supposed to be called in the first place and it is a big disgrace and an eyesore for him to put on the Nigerian National jersey. Don't even further add insult to injury by comparing Echijiele with Amuzie.

E bi like say you know when we win the first Nations Cup. Was he a local coach? The second nko, na local coach? The first Olympics football gold nko, na local coach?

Bros, tell us you are not one of those protegees behind the choice of local coaches to sell market.

From where dem take score the goal? Why? No experience.

I repeat Amuzie doesn't deserve to be called to the National team and that's all.

It seems you do not understand English. I said after, note after Westerhoff and Bonfere. Now read and tell me how Otto Gloria coached after Westerhoff and Bonfere.

I repeat, Amuzie wasn't poor in the game. So you can have your reasons. Brandishing your foreign Coach is a joke because of that.

Tell me the technical facts on ground. Amuzie is not playing regularly? Going by that, it was an eyesore for Man City to sign Yaya Toure from Barcelona because he was not getting regular games.

It was an eyesore for Juventus to buy Pogba and Morata because they were not getting regular games.

Does that not not suggest that we should go back to what had worked for us earlier than trying too hard to sugar coat already a failed project?

Tell us, why you think Amuzie is better than Echijiele? Prove it with technical facts. We don't need baseless and unproven opinions here. This is serious matter.

This guy again! You watch and analyze soccer with too much emotion and that could cloud one's judgement. You make it sound as if the boy was woeful which is not true. That boy was solid on the ball and tackles very well. Left for me I will play the young man again,he is a bundle of talent. We need a LB that can join the attack and give us more fluidity in the final third and Amuzie has all the qualities.

Eagles fail to train in Egypt after very long Monday

Super Eagles training in Kaduna

Super Eagles did not train at the Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria Monday night because they complained of tiredness after a six-hour flight from Abuja.

The Eagles had to endure a two-hour delay at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Abuja due to late approval for the chartered flight to fly over Sudan to Egypt.

And that was after a two-hour bus ride from Kaduna to Abuja, also on Monday.

It was further gathered that on Sunday coach Samson Siasia put the squad through a grueling four-hour training session under floodlights at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

The crucial Egypt vs Nigeria AFCON second clash will kick off at 6pm Nigerian time.

Egypt make changes for Nigeria rematch

Hossam Ghaly of Egypt (left) challenging Asamoah Gyan of Ghana

Egypt are likely to ring at least two changes to their starting XI in a rematch of last week’s AFCON showdown against Nigeria today in Alexandria with coach Hector Cuper promising an all-out attack.

The Pharaohs were too cautious in Kaduna, but with 40,000 fans cheering them on inside the Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria tonight, they will go for goals against the Super Eagles.

Ahly’s rising star Ramadan Sobhi, who set up Mohamed Salah for the late draw, is tipped for a starting position in a three-man strike force that has Ahmed "Kouka" Hassan from Portuguese club Sporting Braga and top star Salah.

Sobhi was a substitute for Anderlecht striker Mahmoud Hassan 'Trezeguet' in Kaduna.

Midfielder and captain Hossam Ghaly is also expected to start against Nigeria to give harmony and stability to the midfield.

Nigeria forward Nnamdi Oduamadi got off to a terrible start with Finnish club HJK Helsinki after they crashed 4-0 to Malmo FF of Sweden in a friendly.

The AC Milan loanee played for the entire duration of the game sporting jersey number 90.

Former Nigeria international Taye Taiwo was also on parade for HJK in the game.

The Finnish team ended Monday’s game with a man down following the expulsion of Malolo.

Can Chelsea loanee Victor Moses knock out Egypt?

Victor Moses heads for goal against Egypt in Kaduna in the 84th minute after he has beaten the goalkeeper before his effort is cleared off the goalline

by Samm Audu

In the bible, Moses liberated oppressed Israelites from Egypt and tonight his namesake Victor Moses could do likewise for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in tonight’s AFCON 2017 decider in Alexandria.

The present-day Moses was a shock omission to the Eagles start list on Friday in Kaduna as coach Samson Siasia preferred Gent winger Moses Simon, who went to justify the confidence of the coach with a terrific display.

Chelsea loanee Moses could even have made the difference in Kaduna had he put away a glorious chance in the 84th minute, when he rounded up goalkeeper Ahmed El-Shennawi but his shot was cleared on the goalline by Hamada Tolba.

“It was almost a goal,” rued Siasia.

Moses himself promised he will be a lot more ruthless in front of goal in Egypt.

“Unfortunately we did not win at home. I did not see the (Nigeria) player who was behind me, but next time, I will make better use of my opportunity,” he vowed.

“We will make Nigeria proud.”

Besides the missed chance, he was lively for the short time he was on the pitch and he carved open the static Egypt defence with his dribble runs and vision.

It was like the Victor Moses at AFCON 2013, when he and Brown Ideye combined to crown Emmanuel Emenike goal king of the tournament.

Suggestions are now that he starts ahead of Ahmed Musa with Friday’s man of the match Oghenekaro Etebo playing a more offensive role to allow Lazio ace Ogenyi Onazi, fresh from a three-match suspension, partner Mikel Obi in defensive midfield.

Such a combination could thus provide the quality service which Odion Ighalo needs for him to deliver in Alexandria.

Kick-off time is 6pm Nigerian time at the Borg El-Arab Stadium.

If merit is considered in selection, this guy no suppose even play for U20 but how he made it to the National team and benched Echijiele is beyond me. How can you bring a player who had only seen 169 minutes of game time in his first season in Europe and from a second division league over a player playing regularly in one of the top 5 leagues in Europe? Abi na yam to play for Monaco? The next in line is Oshaniwa and Madu before we even think of..em wetin be em name again Amuzie. Sentiment is at play here and i no close eye.

I don talk am before... We don't need the service of local coaches again. I have seen that they have got nothing to offer than to sell market.

We need a good foreign coach to bring in sanity and merit into the team.
Amuzie had a good game Sir, I understand your point though. But its there for every one to see, that his game spoke for him. The guy was not intimidated by Salah. He kept an eye over him. If you want to use experience and club as the basis for your arguments, I will have less to say, but if you allow his game especially the one against Egypt to speak for him, then they would be no need to bring this issue up. The played well.

Mikel says tonight reminds him of World Cup heroics in Nairobi

Nigerian Skipper Mikel Obi

Nigeria skipper Mikel Obi has said tonight’s AFCON decider against Egypt in Alexandria reminds him of when the Super Eagles had their backs to the wall and also had to win in Nairobi, Kenya, in 2009 to qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

The Eagles scraped a 3-2 win in Nairobi to qualify for their fourth World Cup.

“We are in the same situation now as we were then going to Nairobi. I just have it in my mind that it can be done, that we have done it before,” remembered Mikel, who along with Elderson Echiejile, is the only survivor on the squad in Egypt.

“Yes, we will go out there on Tuesday night and do exactly what we have to do: fight. It is not going to be easy but I keep remembering what we did in Nairobi that evening and I know it can be done.”

The coach in Nairobi, Shuaibu Amodu, who is now the national technical director. Has also reminded Mikel of that day in Kenya.

“I also remember Nairobi, and I have already discussed it with Mikel (Obi) and he remembers very well and the spirit is there and he will pass it on to the other players,”Amodu said.

"We just have to remember that it has been done before and that we can do it again. Of course, that was a FIFA World Cup qualifier and this one is an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. But the same principle can be applied and Nigeria will come out victorious.”

Yaya Toure was not an established Superstar if not he would not have left due to limited playing time.

Pogba and Morata were reserve players.

Even if the person plys his trade on the bench in India, what matters is how he performs in training and during games.

FASTEST GOAL | Chinedu Obasi holds the record for scoring the quickest goal in games involving these two sides. His 12th-minute strike was, however, insufficient to secure the victory, as Egypt won 3-1 in a Africa Cup of Nations encounter on January 10, 2010 at the Estadio Nacional de Ombaka, Benguela.

PENALTIES | Stephen Keshi has also scored the most penalties in previous encounters between Nigeria and Egypt. First, in a 1-1 friendly draw on February 20, 1983 in Kaduna, and then on March 14 1984 in an Afcon game which ended 2-2.

MOST GOALS | Hassan El-Shazly boasts of most goals in Nigeria vs Egypt matches. This was achieved at the 1963 Afcon in Ghana, while Kenneth Olayombo (1973), Haruna Ilerika (1976) and Segun Odegbami (1977) boast of two goals in a game against the North Africans.

FANS | Saturday’s Afcon qualifier in Kaduna saw the most spectators watching a game between Nigeria and Egypt, with between 40,000 and 50,000 fans cramped into the tiny Ahmadu Bello Stadium, creating fear of a stampede, as security officials battled to keep the crowd in check.

SCORELINE | Egypt’s 6-3 victory Nigeria at the 1963 Africa Cup of Nations at the Kumasi Sports Stadium, Ghana was the biggest recorded scoreline between the pair...a bad night for the Super Eagles!

Does that not not suggest that we should go back to what had worked for us earlier than trying too hard to sugar coat already a failed project?

Tell us, why you think Amuzie is better than Echijiele? Prove it with technical facts. We don't need baseless and unproven opinions here. This is serious matter.

You said you have technical facts and you want me to prove with technical facts.

I said I prefer Amuzie and I am not a fan of Echiejile's game. I have seen Echiejile torn to shreds during an AFCON qualifiers and I doubt he can put in a better performance stopping Salah.

People scream Echiejile based on popularity. I prefer Juwon Oshaniwa who Coach Keshi who established Echiejile in the National team dropped Echiejile for.

Nigeria Vs Congo: Player Rating

Echiejile : His wing was exploited by the speedy Congolese. Poor overlapping. 3/10

I am not saying Coach Siasia can not call Echiejile. That is his choice but I do not and can not see Echiejile dealing with the pace.

It is you calling Amuzie an eyesore because he is not playing regular games. I pointed out to you that a player can be good and not get regular games. Just like Morata and Pogba. Just like Pique at Man Utd.
