I read the initial story elsewhere. I didn't know The Punch also reported it. If they did you have a point to the extent you believe the police and hold the opinion that the story is not true.

The Nigerian press are generally very uncouth to the point where they will display pictures of dead bodies on the front page and will list the names of minors when reporting.

This story has no pictures of the severed heads, no pictures of the meat, the restaurant is unnamed, proprietor is unnamed, anonymous patron, anonymous police officer and all this took place in an unspecified town in Anambra.

Why would PUNCH behave so coyly all of a sudden? If they had proof of this tale it would be all throughout their 'newspaper'.

what does the yorubas got to do with these?

Don't mind dat good-for-nothing, chest-beating idiott.

Did you read what d Idiott wrote "Monkey go go market but he-Yorubas won't return........".

That guy is a big fool; bring your war on, you love war and we(The new generation) ll oblige your quest for war. You think that over 24 millions Yorubas ll be watching you stepping your filthy footstep on their land. We ll show you what war is all about. I only pity the sacrificial lambs in Lagos and the rest of south west.

Why would the news be only on the BBC Swahili section when they know very well that nigerians neither speak nor understand swahili

And there was no form of picture or accuracy of report to back this news up.

I sincerely hope someone or some group are not trying to tarnish our image.

Just a few weeks back some media owned by some people from some section of the country came out to say Wole Soyinka said this and that about Igbos.

We are watching o!

God help us, God help una!
So that on the D-Day we shall all fall out in the field leaving our qwerty keyboards behind.

It's all over the UK/US news with no credible sources.

No names, no dates, no location. How is that a reliable source of information?

A basic journalistic requirement is that the reporter should explain, who? where? what? and why? This story has been recycled without any of these. It's clearly a fake story, only a fool would fail to see this.

Also, if you are not aware as of yet - Western media loves nothing more than to portray Nigeria as a terrible place.

That I m aware of and I hate them for that

But these news outlets don't just pick any news anyhow and paste on their website.

They pick the most shocking.

This is shocking because it's so clearly false.

Why have they picked up this rehashed story a year later? An internet search shows that this story was reported last year.

When have Nigerian news outlets ever been shy of printing gory and unpleasant pictures? Why are there no images of the reported severed heads? Of the human meat? Why was the patron not named? Why was the owner of the restaurant not named? Why was the police office left anonymous?

When did Nigerian news outlets suddenly become so secretive?

A food vendor in Anambra State, Ngozi Aloefuna, is in the eye of the storm after she was discovered to have been in custody of the remains of her brother who died of mental illness about two years ago. The corpse of Stephen Aloefuna, a former footballer with Rangers International Club in the 80s, was hidden in the family house for the past two years until it had decomposed to a skeleton.
Residents of Amikwo Village, Awka South Local Government Area, where the incident happened, were benumbed by the shocking discovery, even as people accused Ngozi, the food vendor, of mischievously harvesting her brother’s body parts to cook the food she sells to the public in the market.
Daily Suninvestigation revealed that the woman was a popular food vendor in Eke-Awka market. Eyewitnesses to the horror told our reporter that the remains of the young man had turned into a skeleton when it was discovered by one of his brothers, who pressed Ngozi to show him where the late Stephen was buried.
The man, stunned by the bizarre sight, raised the alarm that attracted neighbours to the room. The sight shocked the neighbours, as they never imagined that they had lived with a decomposing corpse for the past two years. While suspecting Ngozi of sinister motives, the villagers alleged that she was using her late brother’s parts to prepare food for her customers, as nothing could explain why she locked up his remains in a room for two years.
It was gathered that the bewildered neighbours descended on Ngozi, as they demanded explanation for such evil. Sources disclosed that Ngozi admitted that it was the skeleton of her brother, Stephen, who died of mental sickness. However, her failure to explain why she hid the corpse increased people’s speculation that she had something sinister rolled up her sleeves.[s][/s]

in your story abt Ngozi and Stephen, except if the man is mad and probably was assumed to have died somewhere unknown to them. In an Ibo land, a single person cannot bury a body whether it is sane or insane, they have kindred that would come and support in whatever means. Again, except if Ngozi is not ok too. Because I recently saw a family where about 4 people are not ok(mother, sister, and two brothers who smokes weed and act mad), then she could keep such body and keep watching a skeleton. Am not saying some people are not bad. But the news in question said alleged even without evidence and enough information about the place and people involved.
are u sayin an insane woman will keep a decomposed body in his house and she is a food vendor with large customers buying her food. Yet they don't know whether she is normal or insane?

You and I know that there have been several published news without all pictorial evidence and all that but still turned out to be true.

The place is very close to a popular Ose-Okwodu market in Anambra.

Sometimes, the pictorial evidence and other relevant materials would have been taken off the crime scene before Journalists even get there.

Watch crime channels; the stupid western media have got their hands full of worse crimes than this at their own backyards but that does not rule out the fact that shit happens around us in Africa and Nigeria.
