AREGEBESOLA: The Unsung HERO in APC ‘s path to PRESIDENCY.

By Remi Odewale

Not many remember the road to ending the 16 years of governance of Nigeria by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) started on August 9, 2014 when Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was re-elected for the second term, as governor of the State of Osun.

The man known as Aregbe, won the governorship seat despite the hostile political environment created by the presidency allegedly using its agencies and unnecessary deployment of federal might to suppress the will of the people. But Aregbe brave all odds, mobilized the people through very rigorous political campaigns. Many of the APC chieftain from other states including the party's National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu among others were obstructed from entering Osun for solidarity campaigns same way the APC leaders were treated in Ekiti pre-election activities in June 2014.

Despite all these challenges, Rauf Aregbesola remained undaunted, pushing ahead and in fact tackled the presidency and PDP headlong. The result: the will of the people was done and democracy prevailed in the state of Osun through the dogged posture of a man reputed for its uncompromising stand.

Since the inception of his administration in September 2010, Aregbesola has been all out in all manner of way to criticize the PDP-led Jonathan administration for its lackluster performance in Nigerian economy, security, power, education and other social services even as the government daily rolled out the lists of its achievements often described as fictitious by Aregbe and his APC leadership.

To show his dislike for the poor performance of the PDP-led government, he hardly attend the monthly Council of State meetings at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, believing such meetings were jamboree which decision never really impacted positively on Nigeria and Nigerians

He publicly rejected and openly condemned most of the policies of President Jonathan, a stand that drew the ire and hatred of the presidency for the Osun governor as he was labeled a RASCAL though the man never bugged.

He was the only APC Governor to have stood his ground against impunity and financial recklessness exhibited by the GEJ in the early part of his administration. He never dined or wined with the presidency for favor of federal presence unlike some of his colleague in same APC. He rather embarked on massive infrastructure development of Osun, turning every part of the state to huge construction sites of good roads and drainages, recreation facilities, schools and medical centers. He was indeed a pain in the neck of PDP. He was called several names by presidency: a secessionist, jihadist, rebel, cultist, Rascals among others, just to bring disrepute to his name and administration. Even some of his loyalist at a point fault his decision not to romance with the presidency because of the little resources /allocation available to the state of Osun. His radical views were seen as affront on the establishment and obstruction to status quo of looting, squandermania amid poor performance.

Aregbesola’s re election last year pushed APC initial rating beyond average as the party popularity soar especially after Ekiti election failure. Huge sympathy came for APC and many Nigerians began to think of the opposition as truly able to upset the hitherto leading PDP. APC towel higher than pre-Osun election as hope was rekindled.

The Osun governor turned the tide against PDP as presidency massively deployed military troops and men of the Department of State Services instead of regular police as it was done in Ekiti and Edo in previous exercise.

The Osun August 9 elections was the oil, which fuelled APC way to victory in the March 28 and April 14 polls, as more Nigerians who had been yearning for change eventually, embrace APC ahead of the General Elections. Everything is now history as APC finally berth at the presidency, signaling the dawn of a new era and the hope in alternative but credible voice. That voice, which Ogbeni represents, can also be seen in many Nigerians. Ogbeni may have his shortcoming like every mortal but we will not be fair enough in our record of history if we fail to give Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola a vintage space as one that etched a hope out of a supposedly hopeless situation.

@OP Since when did Aregbesola become a Member of the Federal Executive Council? Is Aregbesola a Minister or is he holding Federal portfolio like SGF, Chief of Staff to the President? How can he attend FEC when he isn't a member of FEC? It amount to ignorance to call FEC meetings a "jamboree". Please go get a copy of the Constitution to understand what FEC is about. Fyi: FEC meeting is weekly and not monthly

Anyway, I stopped reading your Thrash when I reached this point. I hope you maintained that Aregbesola is gratefully owing 8months Salaries of Osun workers?

Your effort to packagÉ Aregbe is an exrecise in futility.

If i were to consider aregbe before voting, buhari would surely not get my vote. I still don't understand why he embarked on gbongan overhead bridge and ede airport @ the same time! 2 projects he would never finish in 8years, yet substantial amount has been diverted there and workers are being owed 6 months salary!

Bank will only borrow you when they see prospects of you repaying the loan. Aregbesola's Osun state have been borrowing in the past to pay workers until it reached a point when Banks decided not to honor borrowing request from Osun because they have borrowed enough to pay workers without repayment. That Osun has reached a point where even Bankks will not honor borrowing requests shows that the Economic policy of Aregbe is defective and non-workable. He needs to review his fiscal policy and restrategise. He should learn to be serious with the business of Governance or resign if incapable

I'll just leave this her grin

OP you get work to do no be small on behalf of your Ooni of Gbese

RevDesmondJuju:

AregbeRascal the Ooni of Gbese lobbying Buhari for minister of Petroluem
Governor Aregbesola of Osun state is rumoured to be aggressively lobbying Buhari through Tinubu to be appointed as Minister of Petroleum.

Aregbesola of the "O" fame has taken his case to Tinubu who in turn has been promised by Buhari 5 juicy ministerial slots to the APC southwest caucus if he (Buhari) emerges victorious,

When told by a stakeholder and serving Governor of the APC in a southwest caucus meeting that Aregbesola is a serving governor, Aregebesola insisted that he is ready to resign his position as governor to serve as minister of Petroluem. Aregbesola lamented that there is nothing but name in the office of the governor as the state is broke as hell. Aregbesola listed his continuos and relentless campaign on the pages of newspapers on the rot of the oil industry as reason why he should get the slot staing further that no other governor or stake holder has done so much work in spreading the Sanusi lie than himself and that such false propaganda by him was what led to many southwest people disowning Goodluck. When told by Tinubu that his paper, the Nation was at the forefront and that he (aregbesola) was not privy to the original lie as only Sanusi can take credit, Aregbesola produced newspaper clippings from several dailies to show that it wasn't only the Nation that carried his lies.

Tinubu getting irritated by Aregbe's greediness lamented that Aregbe should remember that Nigerians will not accept a refrigerator technician as himself for the position of Minister of Petroluem. Tinubu would later berate Aregbesola to concentrate on Omisore because, Omisore was still going to challenge the Tribunal verdict up to the supreme court.

Aregbe not to be deterred kept showing newspaper clippings to party affiliates enlisting their support in convincing Tinubu but was told that he should forget it since Tinubu is considering his wife, Remi for the position.

A state with a total annual revenue less than 40bn at the height of crude pricing passed a budget of 210 bn for 2014, a sum in the same league as Delta, Rivers and Akwa Ibom. This budget was based primarily from bank loans and real intention was to sponsor Buhar's presidential campaign that is why there is nothing on ground to show for this deficit budget.

The OP is being paid by Aregberascal to help remind Buhari of his contributions to his campaign funds.

Finally this is proof that Tinubu's camp has been ostracised by Buhari.

@WombRaiders, Ifyan, Bacanista, it is no longer a news about the delay in payment of Osun workers salaries by Aregbesola led administration the State workers are owned 5months salaries while local government staffs are owned 2 months. Osun state allocation used to be 4 to 4.6billion every month and salaries will gulp 3.5 billion and since the dwindling allocation from the federal government it has affected Osun and several other state. now osun allocation has dropped to the lowest of 900million naira in last month, so how do you expect Aregbesola to perform miracles? Earlier before now, Aregbesola has been paying workers additional one month salary bonus instead of 12 months he pays 13 months annually, Is he not humane enough? He introduces training and workshop both home and abroad for civil servant on resumption which lots of the workers benefited immensely with huge incentives and bonus.

Meanwhile the issue of delayed in salary and pension payment is not about Osun alone its across board, other state include Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bauchi, Benue, Cross River, Ekiti, Imo, Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, and Kogi, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Rivers and Zamfara states as reported in the Punch Newspaper. Most of this state are currently being managed by PDP.

I am a victim of Aregbesola demolitions and i have never benefited a single kobo directly from the governor but i have benefited immensely through the infrastructure he built in the state, many of you don't know Osun before Aregbesola and thats the reason we voted him massively again. We are still proud of him. #STILL#

For the record, my OPINION is not to glorify Aregbesola for not paying salaries but for his contribution to APC nationally in spearheading the taking over of ASO ROCK so i don't know why you guys are bringing up different issue against my opinion. you can open a new thread and attack him if you wish am sure SEUN OSEWA wont charge you for that.

If you care to know, this is what PDP and your Super Hero Boss Goodluck Jonathan has plunged nigeria to compare to Aregbesola in Osun
"OBASANJO & YARADUA DID NOT LEAVE ANY DEBT FOR NIGERIA BUT RATHER LEFT HUGE SUMS OF MONEY AS NATIONAL RESERVE FOR NIGERIA.

JONATHAN (WHO IS NIGERIA'S GREATEST MISTAKE) MISTAKENLY BECAME PRESIDENT ON MAY 2010 AND BY MAY 2015,IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT JONATHAN HAS ACCRUED A DEBT OF 60 BILLION U.S DOLLARS FOR NIGERIA
$1 = N228
60 BILLION DOLLARS × 228 = 13.7 TRILLION NAIRA (interest excluded)
IF NIGERIA PAYS BACK 5 BILLION NAIRA EVERY MONTH
13.7 TRILLION NAIRA DIVIDED BY 5 BILLION NAIRA = 2740 MONTHS
1 YEAR = 12 MONTHS
2740 MONTHS = 228 YEARS
IN OTHER WORDS,IT WILL TAKE NIGERIA AT LEAST 228 YEARS TO REPAY THE DEBT JONATHAN OWED (interest excluded)
THIS CLEARLY MEANS THAT OUR CHILDREN,
GRANDCHILDREN,GREAT GRANDCHILDREN AND GREAT GREAT GRANDCHILDREN WILL STILL PAY WHAT JONATHAN OWED.
Now,who says JONATHAN is not BADLUCK?

Story!

The Ooni of Gbese borrowed in lieu of the previous allocation based on the price of crude.

When crude fell, so also did his allocations but that will not stop the banks from collecting their money. And as things stand any state wishing to take a loan needs federal govt guarranttee at which point loan repayments are deducted at source by the federal govt to the banks.

You mumu governor did not heed Okonja's warning in early 2013 that crude prices will decline rather the fool was at the vanguard of those fighting the FG over the low benchmark of $79 used to set the budget that year.

AregbeRascal even went further to state that "we are in a boom period" given the high cost of crude and as such this was the time to spend. The governors were opposed to the ECA savings and also the external reserves demanding that FG must share the funds to them.

AregbeRascal is the epitome of a man who earns free money but not only refused to save for the rainy days but went out to borrow in lieu of what he earns illegally.

This is why AregbeRascal id the Ooni of Gbese!

Kai! My people true true we are sitting on a long thing.

You know................

How come Ekiti under Fayemi was owing workers but immediately Fayose got in he cleared the backlog and as at today he is not owing workers?

Why are you APC zombies so foolish?

WombRaiders, is that the best you can do? Calling people fools, I know your type and I won't exchange word with you as I have done earlier. I've gone through your post and profile and I've seen nothing really sensible in it except your unconstructive attack on the opposition. Shame

As regards Ekiti, GEJ paid Fasoye 20B naira of the work done by Fayemi on federal project. Fayose has cancelled all the recruitment done by Fayemi and he's still owing. Let's wait and see how Mighty Fayose will cope without the favour of presidency after May 29. Pls follow this link to know if Ekiti is owing or not.
