NCC Halts Mtn’s New TruTalk+ Tariff Plan by Nobody: 10:23am On May 24, 2015
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has halted MTN Nigeria Communications from implementation of a tariff plan called MTN TruTalk+ or face serious sanctions as the regulator said it did not give any approval for such service. The Commission also barred MTN from further advertisement of such service in the print, electronic media or its websites.

The Commission in a letter dated May 19, 2015 with ref No NCC/MTN/18/15 and signed by the Head, Compliance Monitoring and Enforcement, Mr. Efosa Idehen and Head, Legal and Regulatory Services, Mrs. Yetunde Akinloye, said the records of the Commission shows that the operator has no approval of the regulatory authority before embarking on the new promotional tariff plan.

The Commission said that its Compliance Unit revealed that the new tariff with daily access fee of N5, allows subscribers to call all networks at 11k/sec and N20k/sec to UK, USA, India, Canada and China.

“The Commission’s investigations showed that MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd has already configured this tariff plan on their network and has therefore implemented same” without the appropriate regulatory approval. It said the action contravenes section 108 (1) of the Nigeria Communications Act 2003.

“Consequent upon the above, the Commission thereby directs MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd to immediately discontinue this Tariff Plan and all associated advertisements regarding same or otherwise face regulatory sanctions accordingly” it said.
The NCC has initiated this action in fulfilment of its mandate under section 89 of NCC Act 2003 having carried out a compliance check on the recently introduced MTN Nigeria Limited TruTalk+ Tariff Plan.

Following the compliance check, it was confirmed that MTN Nigeria is currently advertising a Tariff Plan called MTN TruTalk+ in the print and electronic media. The NCC investigations showed that MTN Nigeria has already configured this Tariff Plan on its network and has therefore implemented same.

You might be right or be wrong. Wrong in the sense that MTN continued dominance is making the market uncompetitive. Right in the sense because most persons use MTN being the first operator working after Airtel got the license, so most of Etisalat outgoing calls go MTN numbers. It is also possible that Glo reported them. Can't you see that NCC isn't fair at all. glo has family and friend in one of their call tariff yet when MTN introduce one NCC are quick to castigate them. To me I wouldn't blame MTN on this because it is business strategy and they had to respond to the competitors.

But Etisalat has a similar tariff plan, why is NCC not shutting them down also?

it's likely etisalat had approval from NCC before they introduced it but MTN just copied etisalat and released theirs virtually the next day after etisalat released theirs

Perharps that is why they haven't advertised it on tv. I was surprise to see mtn respond so soon. It seems like Etisalat is giving them enough heat that they loosing revenue. I can't say for glo and airtel but Etisalat is a major threat to MTN Nigeria. Even Glo will feel the heat if don't have rethink. By the time Etisalat finalise 1G for N1000 on all sims, it will be done on them to seat up.

Sorry to divert your attention but why are calls to West Africa nations expensive especially from Nigeria. Calling From Ghana to Nigeria is cheap but the reverse is the case in Nigeria

You have a point there. Mtn messed themselves up, they've been in the system for over a decade they should know how things run.

Will be great if etisalat sells it 1G data for N1000 on all sims. Can't just wait. Some of my friends benefited from their random selection of that 1G for #1000 and it's working well.

They didnt even copy correctly.

The N5 is deducted even if you dont make any call for that day which isn't like that on Etisalat which is charged on the first call made.
Re: NCC Halts Mtn’s New TruTalk+ Tariff Plan by flowjoe: 10:43pm On May 24, 2015
