A black jeep in the convoy of a governor’s wife from the North East yesterday morning crushed a 15-year old to death at Nyanya, in the Federal Capital Territory.

An eye witness said as the siren blaring convoy was passing through Nyanya, the jeep which was carrying four persons including the personal assistant to the governor’s wife veered off the road and crushed Anthony John, a sales clerk at a furniture store.

Our Political office holders are really taking the lives of other innocent road for granted.They always run at high speed and don't obey traffic rules l keep wondering ,

Let me be the first to declare this latest hit-and-run Executive Convoy victim as a National Hero, who bravely sacrificed his life to ensure that the Governor's Wife did not miss her appointment with the hairdressers.

The family of the victim can at least take solace in the knowledge that their loved one was run over by a stylish-looking brand new airconditioned SUV, and by not some rusted-out smoky bone-shaker taxi cab, which could easily have been the case were it not for the royal status of the vehicle owner.

Gov’s wife’s convoy crushes boy

A black jeep in the convoy of a  governor’s wife from the North East yesterday morning crushed a 15-year old  to death at Nyanya, in the Federal Capital Territory.

An eye witness said as the siren blaring convoy was passing through Nyanya, the jeep which was carrying four persons including the personal assistant to the governor’s wife veered off the road and crushed Anthony John, a sales clerk at a furniture store.

One of the furniture shop owners stated that the master of the boy, James and himself and  State Security Service officials accompanied the corpse in an FRSC van to Asokoro Hospital Morgue, while the injured driver of the jeep and the governor’s wife’s personal Assistant were rushed to the Nyanya General Hospital, before their transfer to an undisclosed hospital.

Our reporter observed security operatives removing  the number plate of the vehicle, while policemen from the entourage as well as those from Nyanya Police Station, sealed up the place in order to prevent people from coming close to the vehicle.The leader of the road safety rescue team declined comment and asked our reporter to get more details from the police and officials of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS), who also refused to speak on the situation.

The Divisional Police Officer of Nyanya, Aminu Garba told our reporter that he was yet to get the full detail.

“My men are still at the accident scene and immediately they file in their reports it would be sent to the FCT police command, so go there and collect details from the command’s public relations officer,” he said.

Furniture makers also complained that the jeep hit an electric pole that destroyed their products and damaged a motorcycle. At the Governor’s lodge at Asokoro yesterday, two security men said the governor’s wife,  left the lodge early in the morning to keep up with an appointment.

Evidence being erased by the so-called leaders who are meant to maintain them. We all have to work together if there'll ever be a way for my country. Nothing else.

I am sad to observe that we have reckless and over-zealous drivers and security men in Nigeria. Most of these drivers and security operatives salvour the authority of the dignitary they are protecting than the VIP himself'/herself. They have over bloated ego and false sense of authority. They aid and abet corruption by teaching the VIP most of the corrupt attributes. One thing is sure, They will retire one day. On retirement they look more frustrated and forlon when the naked reality of life dawn on them. May the soul of the boy RIP.

They kill a boy and keep mum, hoping no one will notice?
Do office-holders enjoy immunity from prosecution for manslaughter, and does it extend to theri wives and convoys?

Nigeria as i've always said is a nation led by barbarians, a status which has extended to wives and probably children, who would probably be terrorizing their peers with their executive children status

This is sad. I think Sirens need to be banned except in cases of emergency. I don't care what kind of hurry one is in, there is no excuse for crushing anyone or even hitting anyone. This is the height of barbarianism. I don't even know who should be blamed more, the driver or the Gov's wife. Carrying such pointless convoys is like a man crying wolf. If there is really an emergency, people won't take these things serious. They should monitor how sirens are used in Nigeria.

That poor boy did not deserve to die. Just for this, I want to know where the Gov's wife was going.

What happened to the kid that was run over is a very tragic and horrific event, but it was an accident and could have happened to anyone siren or no siren. Secondly, I go to Nigeria all the time. That is why I'm saying they need to regulate the use of sirens. Fashola is doing something about that in lagos. Other states could learn about it. It could have happened to anyone but it happened to the Gov's wife's convoy. We all know how the sirens bully people and make them move out of the way for no reason while they drive dangerously. They need to be more careful and actually use the sirens responsibly.
