Former Borno State Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, is reported to have voluntarily surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The EFCC is interrogating him for allegedly laundering over N300 billion during his tenure and the controversial withdrawal of over N13 billion from the local government joint account

“Apart from the N300 billion he allegedly took from the coffers of the state, Sheriff would also be questioned over N13 billion supposedly withdrawn from the local government joint account, an EFCC source hinted.

Sheriff is said to have clarified that the money in question was spent on some infrastructural projects in preparation for the inauguration of his successor in 2011.

There are indications that the said the projects were neither executed nor the money accounted for

At press time, it is not clear how long the former Governor will be interrogated by the EFCC. The anti-graft commission planned to declare Sheriff wanted last week after several invitations extended to him were ignored.

However, Sheriff, like former Adamawa governor, Murtala Nyako who also surrendered on Monday for laundering N15billion, handed himself over for questioning.

Borno State is the hotbed of the Boko Haram Insurgency where many towns and villages have being ravaged, many School girls and women kidnapped by the dreadful sect
