Back then in school, I was sitting at Unilag lagoon front preparing for my next paper. Right in front of me, I noticed that a tree with a dead trunk is having a green crown. From the position I was sitting, the green crown formed a square (not a perfect square). I also noticed that the bark of the trunk and limb that stretches towards the west were peeling.
I went round the tree to see how it happened and I realised that a stem sprung up from the tree shallow root to made up the living part of the tree.

I wasn't with a camera to take the picture. So I decided to put it down in writing.

Two months ago, I edited some pix from Google image to create a similar image of what I saw years back. (image below).



The Dead trunk And Its Green Branches

Dead or alive, I searched for her strength;
if both are visible, life is behind.
She stretches to form a square, with her hand pointing to the west.
She sheds her skin to make up her beauty;
and waits for the wind to take her to sleep.
with time, she will change to sand;
and her map will be occupied by weeds.
Tell the life behind not to be glad, because time is everything.
