Blackberry, whose latest handsets reportedly aren't selling well, is planning to launch an Android smartphone this fall, according to a report from Recode. The report notes that the move is aimed at promoting the company's cross-platform Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solution dubbed BES12. It would send a signal that BlackBerry is "confident that the BES12 system can not only manage, but also secure smartphones and tablets powered by rival operating systems," the report said. The news comes less than a month after the Canadian company announced worldwide job cuts.

Android can't be displaced , it'll only evolve.

The evolution will be too late cos the review of the next android Click here to see the new Android features shows that they are just trying to fix bugs in Lollipop while Windows 10 is a revolution.
If mighty Symbian was replaced, nothing is impossible

well this can be said to be a welcome develpoment, but i dont see it as a saving grace for them thou, they came too late to the android party, of which if they plan on releasing an android phone they hav to bump up internal specs and proccesors!!

I will rather downgrade to symbian than upgrade to an already degraded-updrading androidberry

Poor idea....why not join windows 10..blackberry is a business-oriented phone;its the most secured OS along with windows phone OS(its security and uniquesness makes it number one for enterprise in western nations)...since microsoft is the king of enterprise and windows 10 is tipped by xpert to overtake android in all ramifications,it should have gone to windows....android poor security and malwares ll hinder its progress.....................rumours actually have it dat microsoft wants to buy Blackberry

And it seems as if you forgot that that's how Microsoft always promise much and deliver little whenever they release new os. I assume you're not a child when they released windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows phone 7, Windows 8 and Windows phone 8. They said a lot..... that Android will be relegated, iPhone will struggle to compete with Windows blah blah blah blah.....

We knew what happened. They had less than 3% marketshare of smartphone and android had more than 80%.

Now we see what they doing. Talking and blabbing and promising. But the people who really understands tech news and tech history knows this as their usual antics.

Mark what I say and mark it well. NO OTHER OS IS CAPABLE OF DISPLACING ANDROID OS, not in 10 years or 100 years time. Not IOS, not windows phone OS, not Blackberry OS. ANDROID is not like Java os or symbian os. It's a highly flexible and dynamically evolving OS that is way ahead of it's competitors.

Ask yourself why despite billions of dollars that Microsoft spend to push windows phone OS, it has not exceeded 2-3% of OS running on smartphones worldwide and it's nowhere near where and android is. Android runs on more than 80% of smartphones worldwide. Android is King and will remain so for a very loooooooooong time.

Samething was said about symbian os until it was displaced.if u think phone is the future of tech, then u re doomed...have u heard of virtual reality(facebook oculus rift),augmented reality(microsoft hololens) and co;have u heard of windows 10 phone continuum?,a microsoft method of turning phone to computer on any monitor available?....have u heard of 'one windows',phone conputers and every other device now have same operating system?....windows phone acceptance have been low due to lack of apps.developers neglected the ecosystems due to poor sales despite having the smoothest and fastest fone OS..to tackle this, microsoft tends to launch windows 10 dat ll link all windows devices as one unit.with 1.5billion computers and almost 3billion windows users, developers ll be enticed to develope apps for windows 10........even google knows dat its doomsday is near.have u asked ur self y googles rival to microsoft pc ,chromebook computers are dead on arrival?.....apple and microsoft poor research and innovation ls about to haunted dem..windows 10 is coming to reclaim microsoft glory and nobody is stopping it.

LOL. Let's wait see. It seems as if you don't know know the history of Microsoft and their antics. Let's just wait and see. I hope we can have this conversation again in five years time.

And BTW Chromebook was not produced to compete with PCs. It's for cloud computing. Totally different from regular computing.

Chromebook was targeted at schools, dat require low-powered computer and to reduced the dominance of windows in d future by letting d younger ones get used to android operating system....it was make cheaper but microsoft decided to launch 'windows 8 with bing' to counter google's chromebook..with the announcement of windows phone continuum features on fone, the existence of chromebook is threathened

Android operating system is totally different from Chrome os. Google didn't release Chrome os to get people used to Android os or to compete with PC. Both Android and chrome os are totally different and serve different purpose. Chromebooks/Chrome OS is basically for those who run their computing on the Internet (in the cloud). Schools adopt this because it's cheaper and easier to manage than for their students to be using PC. And Chrome books is very successful considering the purpose for which it's made. You should know this if you really know about tech stuffs. This windows 10 hype is really getting you high. But wait till it's released and you see that Windows 10 and Windows 8 were hyped, infact overhyped and little was delivered on the much they promised. Nuff said. Let time decide.

Chromebook was successful...u must be joking, how many people were willing to buy a 'browser' as a laptop, when they could buy windows pc and install chrome browser.besides, only 5 to 7million chromebooks were sold compareed to windows pc.incase u dont know, chromebook is less than 1% of pc.............only true tech-savvy ppl know what windows 10 could do

How great are the mighty fallen!

I remember 3 years back how people would argue that BlackBerry will forever remain the best and highest selling mobile phone manufacturers (even though it was obvious android was fast gaining momentum and popularity) and how we told them that their decline in sale and relevance was inevitable...

now...viola!

This is what happens when you refuse to adapt to the changing times faster than your compeitors; you will wake up one day and find urself a relic of the past. Nokia, kodak, yahoo! (yahoo messenger) have similar stories to tell as well.

If only BlackBerry had brought out their OS 10 3 or 4 years ago, the future - history would have been different.
I hope we all can take the time to learn from the mistakes of others.

It just shows dat u are not tech savvy........google realised dat cloud computing was begining to dominate the world and ARM-based devices(which are more energy friendly such as android) are taking over intel's devices(mostly windows, energy intensive devices),she decided to release a consumer laptop that go with d trend, just as she did with google glass.but nobody wanted a low-powered computer or a browser as laptop....most of the functions of chromebooks can be done one phones and phablet.thus, leading to its fall in....same reason why android tablets and ipads sales are falling and windows ultrabooks and tablets(like microsoft surface pro 3) are rising in sales.
