echemichael: The MRV receipt remains valid for a year. You only pay the appointment fee for a new appointment when going for another appointment as long as the date falls within one year of payment of the previous MRV payment. |

My fellow nairalanders, What effect does having a brother who is a citizen in the US have in the success of an F-1 student visa interview. I would not want to lie on that part or any other part the interview. But if it's going to lead to denial, i may not have any other option. |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by gongoaso1: 6:37pm On Aug 01, 2009 |
realmajid: i'l say thats an easy question which u made difficult. while not advising you to lie straight out, IMO, me thinks its best if you make no mention of that cause i learnt such things do not encourage them to give you the visa that you might want to find a way of joining your sibling overthere. what i think is best for you then is to pray and hope no such question is asked from you. regards |

Here are questions i can remember: 1) Have you been to the US? 2) Do you have any relations in the US. . . . . . so long your immediate family (parents/siblings) are not there, just say NO. They might want to dig up stuffs on them, i guess. 3) How did u get information of the schools you applied to? . . . . . .gradschools.com, US news.com, Petersons Graduate school guide . . u fit mention Princeton Grad school guide sef 4) Who's sponsoring your studies and what's the occupation . . . . , made sure i explained my sponsor's occupation/position in glowing terms 5) Which other schools did u apply to? . . . . .mentioned the 4 schools. 6) How many admitted you? . . . . mentioned 3 7) Where are the admission lettters form other schools?? . . . . now this question took me off-balance, in fact i was scared when she looked at me that i didnt have the other admisssion lettters. . . . but i composed myself and gave this answer . . . . . 'since i'm only presenting the i-20 of xyz school, i only brought admission related documents of this school' . . . . i think she was satisfied sha . . . , but if you have admission letters from other schools, berra take it . . it won't harm Why did u choose this particular school . . . . . . . . . . . . .Their research areas align with areas i want to explore and become more proficient in and the Profs were more open in their email responses (this means you were interracting with them . . . i actually had 2 names i was ready to mention in case she asked for the Profs names) 9) What are those areas? . . . . . . . . . mentioned my 3 core areas of interest 10) Why those 3 areas? . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .those areas are linked to my current job functions which i want to improve on 11) So where do u work? . . . . . . . . . .mentioned the company name and wat we do; related to my research areas that i mentioned earlier . . . . also mentioned that i've been there for over 3 years. After that . . . . the lady just started typing some stuffs for another 20/30 seconds and looking at my DS forms . . at this stage i was in a limbo, cos she hasnt even asked me to produce any document from my 'full envelope' . . . . , i was expecting her to say 'let me see your financial documents/ test scores e.t.c. after finishing her typings . . , she just gave me the VFS address slip . . . . . .chikena! O Se Baba!!! . . . . . This is simply God's favour in action!!! 2 Likes |

ok peeps, how my interview got successful Why did you choose your school ------ they have the best oncampus radio nationwide what are you studying ---- Journalism What will you do after graduating --- Journalism is competitive and I am optismistic to find a job home or abroad. There is high request for professional journalist with good degrees who is sponsoring you and financial documents --- I told them parents and and show my statments how long do you intend to remain in united states --- as long as my major requires of me. where did you hear about the school --- google search how many schools u applied --- 2 schools only one gave me admissions your visa will be ready on wednesday, nairalanders, u know what i realized about my interview and why it was short? My answers were straight forward and short too. thats all my peeps hope this is helpful and wish everyone else the best, @toyosi Congrats!! 2 Likes |

Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by nethacker(m): 12:34pm On Aug 04, 2009 |
ofcourse u canFor students u will only get a one-way ticket cos u r nt sure wen u will return.which school did u apply to |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by Nobody: 12:49pm On Aug 04, 2009 |
@ smile 11s You can buy a one way ticket 'cos u have a student visa, however most travel agent will advice you to buy a return ticket cos they get commision on the return ticket and its cheaper when u consider it to the one way ticket on the long run. But u should also take into consideration the fact that a return ticket is valid for just a year and if ur course is for 2 yrs or more then u might have to pay extra to reuse the return leg. I hope this helps Congrats and have a great time in Gods own country |

@tboy and smile11s a big congrats to u guys. am always so elated reading positive stories on this thread. @smile11s KISS is key, Keep It Short and Simple @tboy waow, so many questions u did well @nethacker dont get what u mean by school that accepts certified true copies of credential. credentials (original/certified copies) are not usually required from intending students. u mentioned earliest admission offer, as against what period i.e. when are u looking at ;spring or fall admissions? though some schools roll over admissions i.e they admit all year round. Ill advise you to check www.webometrics.info for a list of schools, choose which ever appeals to you and search yourself for their requirements and admission times. it is all there in the school website. better still u might want to send them a mail, trust me, oyinbo will reply your questions cheers |

@gongo aso I don dey apply to schools for spring 2010.as per d result level,I get all my originals for hand here (both ND and O'levels)but some of these schools go say na the institution must send those results to them directly, where them dey do that kain thing? |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by Nobody: 2:04pm On Aug 04, 2009 |
@ nethacker Let them knw u have all ur documents with you, they might relax their rules. . . .u cant tell. Be sure to read carefully the skol requirements,so u dont fall into what i fell into(transcript evaluation),which made me missout on fall and now settling for spring 2010. If they insist they still want it directly from the skol, let us know here there are ways around that |

I got thru wit ma Sec educatn in 2002,after that i studied Agriculture in University of Ilorin in contrast to my dream course which is ENGINEERING.i 've just finished NYSC last month. I did SAT in Jan with the score of 1997 and i just did TOEFL last weekend,i ave done CCNA as well. I am thinking of starting all over again in courses that are relevant to my dream career, and the best i think i could do is to start over again in U.S,Y'know.am just 23,i need u guys advice on the choice of school in U.S (I'm actually considering Texas) and my preparation as regard that and the clues to the interview, and am planning towards Fall 2010.I need your frank advice |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by nethacker(m): 3:08pm On Aug 04, 2009 |
gbemxy:@^ gbemxy. My candid advice to you is that if u have d opportunity to start all over again, pls do.Thats wat i plan to do cos i had to abandon my HND to pursue studying abroad.Let me ask you one question:Can u gain employment in Oil coys with ur 9ja cert.?can u work anywhere else in any part of the world with that CERTIFICATE?U r only or will only be limited to working in this country. On the other hand, picture urself as a University of Texas graduate-getting offers from facebook, sunsystems, cisco, microsoft, chevron etc.- how will u feel knowing dat u can present ur certificate anywhere in d world. If na me be u,I go start ooooooo after all my elder brother did so n he told me he's not regretting. My word,I have spoken |
Re: General U.S.A (student) Visa Enquiries by gongoaso1: 3:56pm On Aug 04, 2009 |
nethacker: if the school says they need this documents from your school, then i think you will need to contact your school and advise them to do that asap. its akin to requesting for transcripts to be sent to a prospective school. then if its a postgraduate course u are considering, then u need to write either GRE or GMAT asap so u can meet spring admissions. @gbemxy stop thinking and get on with ur plans ok, the earlier the better u move, the better the results will be make up your mind on the school u want (try http://www.webometrics.info/top100_continent.asp?cont=usa_canada), request your school to send transcripts to your school of choice. schedule your GRE exams at once and start preparing. u wont be needing SAT 'cept u plan going for undegrduate studies which IMO u dont need again.enough engr course to build on what u have already. cheers |
