The power structure of the APC

APC is a party just like the PDP, but unlike the PDP,
what differentiates APC is the way it was formed around 2 personalities.

The parties core is made up of Tinubu and Buhari,
while the other camps are mere enablers.

Whereas Buhari's CPC arm of the party is driven by a kind of cult following and an unforced loyalty to the man Buhari
The Tinubu's ACN camp is one were Tinubu commands loyalty.

He rewards those who he feels will be loyal to him,
and pushes out those who do not bow before him or that he suspects would challenge his authority.
However, he is happy to use such people to get what he wants,
then dumps them when he feels the need to.

This is the context of the present on goings in the APC.

Tinubu de' Machiavelli

Tinubu the master strategist practically singlehandedly used this machavilian qualities in building the APC.
In forging the APC into formidable political machine,
he pushed his peers such as Ikimi who would have been a challenge to him out of strategic positions,
and consequently out of the party,
while drawing close to himself those he felt would be loyal such as Oyegun, Osibanjo and Tambuwal.


However, in order to weaken the PDP structure and enhance his own political fortunes,
he had to engage rebel politicians from the PDP such as Atiku, Saraki and Obasanjo .


His strategy paid off brilliantly.
The enablers (mostly ex PDP members) who typical are not people that desire to owe their loyalty to anyone,
and who desire to be treated as equals,
soon began to understand the Tinubu personality.

Desperation to survive


Seeing that the leadership of the APC was made up of mainly of Tinubu's loyalist,
they slowly began to realise that typical of Tinubu,
they would soon be squeezed out of power within the APC structure in order that Tinibu's power is consolidated.

True to his nature which people ascribe to talent-hunting,
Tinubu's APC inspired leadership started to make choices for legislative positions
the choices were people who were already pro-Tinubu or would end up becoming pro-tinubu
and help him tighten his grip on the APC structure.


The none-conformists members of APC would have none of that.
Not wanting to go the Ikimi way, they rebelled to remain relevant.
This is what you find playing out now

What to expect in the future

My prediction is this:
As long as Tinubu tries to consolidate power to himself, and Buhari does not intefer in support of either party
This rebellion will continue

By now, I am sure that Buhari has been briefed by his strategists about the power play that is going on,
and the need to be neutral in order to curb Tinubu's strangle hold over the party.
