Bank Verification Number
Sounds funny (from what I gathered) that after June 30th 2015, many bank account holders who failed to carry out the 'compulsory bank Verification Exercise, stand to lose their account and funds therein undecided

This leaves one wondering what the so-called technocrats running our financial policies smoking grin at a time when governments round the world are looking for ways to increase the number of 'banked' and looking out for ways to woo the 'unbanked' with innovative solutions, Central Bank of Nigeria is rather looking at ways to 'unbank' the 'banked' depriving them of their lifetime earnings while wooing the 'unbanked' ....so funny!

Btw, did my BVN at Zenith Bank and the customer service agent is unaware of the fact that I'm entitled to a BVN card as being issued out by UBA ...or may be its a bank's choice?

Linking the BVN with my other bank accounts tongue was not a walk in the park as I expected, FCMB took ages to get me enrolled in the first place complaining of 'no network' ...this or that (that took me to Zenith Bank and I was done in minutes) I had to call my account manager to help verify if my account has been linked to my submitted BVN ...it was finally after several attempts getting them to do same and I received no notification or alert letting me know it was done sad

At Diamond bank, it was seamless ....I had to be verified through finger print matching and was successful. GTBank was a whole different ball game, at my branch close to the Palms, the BVN enrollment officer was no where to be found as at noon on the day I went sad

I've not been able to link my account but while playing around with the bank's Internet Banking, I saw a link allowing me to submit my BVN and confirm same using my security question answer smiley that was smart of the bank after all.

I wonder why the 'bankers committee' never looked into the possibility of using other channels to submit BVN via a web service connection to the central database until the last minute. For customers with multiple accounts, its always a struggle leaving your home bank to play away against the other bank's home customers (home as in the bank you did your initial enrollment Vs those doing theirs where you go to link account).

National electronic ID
I must have been lucky, during the botched National ID drive in 2002/2003, I was successfully captured and issued with an ID which I was amongst the fortunate few not to have theirs sent to a state other than that they were captured.

This time around I was lucky, lucky in the sense that I stumbled on the enrollment process 2 years after it started when I went for a new International passport at Alausa, Lagos last year April (NIMC office just a walk away from the Ikeja City Mall), did my capture and was issued with a temporary slip which had my National Identification Number (NIN) ...some 11-digit number. Two weeks ago, June 12 2015 to be precise, I got the SMS requesting me to report at LASO for my card collection (I remembered being asked to fill in my desired dispatch address/location ...obviously that changed overnight).

Now where is LASO? I had to call the NIMC call center in Abuja I guess, and after like 3-4 calls due to poor network reception, I was finally adviced to visit the office I did my capture at Alausa. Last week, I also called to find out if they operate Saturdays (I work in Lekki so it was going to be a long journey) to which I was assured they operate 10am to 3pm or after Sanitation to 4pm.

Saturday I went there only to be accosted by the Civil Defense staff that they NIMC staff don't work on Saturdays. After arguing and calling back the call center in Abuja to explain to them and get the agent speak to the Civil Defense Staff, I finally went to the office and met the NIMC Maiguard who confirmed same.

Went back yesterday Monday and after a some 30 minutes wait was issued with the card by staff who were using that period to be trained on the issuance process thereby exposing ones 4-digit PIN to their clear view ....thought it was supposed to be your secret number undecided Anyway, I covered mine to the chagrin of the issuing officer (lady dressed in pink) hahahaha.

They tried to activate the Master Card applet to no avail and took down our phone numbers so they will contact us to come and activate it later shocked ...like seriously? I can't activate via Access Bank branch except making the journey back to Alausa from Lekki?

They did call me later requesting for my 'Card's document number .....foolish people forgot to document the card number when issuing out nor did they ask us to sign out card collected as the banks do sad ofcourse I drilled them a little before giving it to them.

Lastly, about the card? Its just a glorified National Master Card (with signature and Nigeria Coat of Arm emblazoned on the chip undecided. Card did not display my address, occupation or state of issuance and to my greatest disappointment ....my National Identification Number (NIN) was not displayed so HTF am I going to keep or remember my 11-digit NIN?

Or better still how can the old woman I saw struggling to inquire if her card was ready, would remember her 11-digit NIN? Yet its going to be enforced September 1st 2015?

Nigeria a land of multiple Biometric Identification Cards - National Driver's Licence, National Voter's Card, National eID (Master Card), Bank Verification Card, Lagos State Resident Biometric Card, Lagos State Biometric Tax Card ....I'm waiting for the National Biometric Pensioner's card as that would be next .....did I forget to mention that some professional bodies now have their own Biometric cards too? shocked

All the best peeps!
