Against the backdrop of the incessant terrorism attacks in Nigeria and the world over, President Mohammadu Buhari yesterday urged the Muslim community to make a strong statement that would condemn the activities of insurgents. According to the president, speaking with one voice was a sure way of rejecting the attackers claim of acting in the name of Islam, stressing that it would also stop the abasement of their religion. This is even as Buahri called on the international community to unite and forge a stronger worldwide consensus for more effective action against global terrorism. The president’s injunctions came on the heels of the killing of about 150 men, women and children in Kukawa, Borno state on Thursday and also the recent murder of Egyptian Attorney General, Hesham Barakat, and the killing of about 70 Egyptian soldiers in the Sinai Peninsula by terrorists. While strongly condemning the act, Buhari in separate statements issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu in Abuja further stated that it was “a very heinous atrocity which must be unreservedly condemned by all people of conscience.” He conveyed his heart-felt condolences to families of the victims of Boko Haram’s dreadful killings in Kukawa just as he also condoled the government of Egypt and the families of the victims, reaffirming “Nigeria’s commitment to working with other countries facing terrorists’ threats to overcome the scourge of violent extremism.” The President added that “no country can afford to be indifferent to the threats of terrorism because of its pervasive and destructive nature.” Buhari had made tackling insurgency a campaign issue and since he assumed office as President, he has focused on the menace more than any problem facing the country. Why couldn't he say this when he wasn't the president. How many people have been slaughtered before God's design for them before he felt it necessary to say it? Is it because now it's making him and not GEJ look bad? How did we become this merciless and hateful in Nigeria? When they were killing before you asked to give them amnesty (money, legal pardon). Good. If Muslims rise against them, they will never survive as a group. It is the responsibility of every Muslim to condemn them and push them out or expose these criminals. Otherwise tomorrow, it can be their turn to be killed for not following this brand of Islam. |

NO MUSLIM will rise against bokoharam except if it directly involves them losing a father or person. in 2012, el rufai was quoted on twitter saying that any military personel that kills fulani herdsmen is doomed. he said they sould be allowed to do their work. well , it appears we have same people leading us today. dont ever think the security are willing to stop boko haram. boko hara is backed by top generals in military but no names can be mentioned for fear of ... 2 Likes |

I think Baba is trying to fight Boko haram war psychologically. If people are being brainwashed to fight for or support BH, then u could undo same by brainwashing too. If this is what he's doing, then kudos to him. |

In Africa, only Nigeria and Sudan (formerly South Sudan was included but they have been liberated now) strictly apply Sharia. Algeria, etc apply Sharia only for birth, marriage and human rights. Other OIC countries like Niger, Chad, Gabon, etc are secular. Only 5 countries strictly apply Sharia (Nigeria included). So how can Muslims in Nigeria fight Boko Haram? Not possible. |
