1.Pharmacy: This is one of the most dreaded
as well as most rewarding courses to study in
Nigerian universities. Having to memorize
great details and engage in clinically
oriented programmes makes pharmacy
complex. Pharmaceutical courses like
pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical
microbiology (PMB) are neither for the lover
of fun or the faint of heart.
2. Dentistry: This is a dangerous combination
of medicine and oral health in one course. It
may not be very popular among Nigerians
and may not enjoy the regard its colleague;
MBBS enjoys. But make no mistake, these
dental students pass through hell to become
professionals. If you doubt me, try Uniben.
3. Veterinary Medicine: The reasons are
similar to that of dentistry. Most people
think vet medicine is cheap simply because it
centres on animal health but I would want
you to understand that in addition to the
agricultural and entrepreneurial aspects of
the course, it has everything to do with
physiology, pathology, histology and
pharmacology
4. Medicine: One of the reasons medicine
ranks here is because its students on the
average get more pampered than the others.
In Uniben , it is nearly not possible for first
year medical students to fail their courses.
It is unheard of and nearly unthinkable. It
could be because they are great scholars; it
could also be because they are well
pampered even more than their close friends -
the dental students.
5. Engineering: All the calculus,
thermodynamics, fluid, mechanics, gruesome
engineering labs (ELA) and manual
requirements? You have to show some
respect, and love as well.
6. Optometry: This is no place for merry-
makers and unserious minds. In simple terms,
optometry will drill you mercilessly if you
should mess with them. The only way out is
to read; bribing is usually not even in
question.
7. Law: Law is another stressful course that
I must mention. those guys also drink big
text books like mad so as to be able to
defend justice any time anywhere. This is
why I love law more than the lawyers
themselves.
8. Biochemistry: A biochemist they say is
naturally ahead of U....Believe me I pity
those guys when I see them going nuts
studying those wicked pathways. This course
is particularly disasterous in FUTO, AAUA
and Uniben. A trial will convince you. U
CANT BEAT THE REACH cheesy cheesy
cheesy cheesy cheesy.
9. Physics: Most of the ones I know simply
memorize and pour out the knowledge on
exam day. Trying to understand what many
of their lecturers do not understand is
suicidal and they know it. Additionally,
physic lecturers are usually far from nice. I
wonder if they are still mourning the
electrocution of Michael Faraday.
10. Computer Science: Have you heard about
FORTRAN? Heard about PASCAL?
Programming? Even scholars get humbled in
this department. It would seem that only
skilled people excel here. The academically
brilliant merely survive.
Worthy mentions include philosophy and some
courses that have to do with too much
theories. Is the scenario the same in your
school or different? Let me hear from you.
