I really have to blame myself first, I was sleeping when others where getting admitted. Time flies I must say. Finished in 2012 passed My NECO and even my ever first JAMB getting 219 did my post ume at OAU but never checked the results (I'm still not sure if they are not doing me) till date, 3 years gone I did jamb steadily and passed but post ume blocks me and Polytechnic is out of the options. I enrolled for pretty degree last year, now I'm through with it and I'm trusting God for admission. Now I want to reduce my age cos I don't even feel like 21 and yu know the employment situation of the country. I'm going to do an engineering course which is 5years + 1service year. I'm already 27after everything (I pray make we no strike). So please how can I suitably reduce my age noting that my original age is on JAMB site? I really need your help. I'm down casted. please your Advices will be appreciated

Engineering makes it better. Most engineering positions, even in oil and gas, don't ask for age restriction.

Study hard and make good grade.

If you're planing to go into engineering, then you don't need to reduce your age.

Employers in the engineering sector are looking for up-coming engineers that can do the job with very little or no supervision regardless of their age.

All you need is hard work and dedication in your area of discipline and employers would begin flocking around you.

Good luck.

If u really want to b an engineer, u dont need to reduce ur age cuz most firms and cimpanies dat deals with engineering dont really bother about d age. What they need is d skill and expertize. it is mostly bank work that usually deals with age.

Hello Unsad,
You shouldn't reduce your age for whatever reason since it is already documented both in NECO and JAMB. A simple background check will fish you out. Except if you want to start all over again and write NECO and JAMB which is needless to me. Also, are you sure you will be able to live with it all your life knowing that you falsified your age? Think twice.

That being said, most engineering firms are much lenient with their age requirements compared to other firms. That does not mean that employers don't look at age. They are just more lenient.

For some funny reasons, I got admission at about your age and finished service also at about the age you are projecting to finish service. You didn't even factor in strikes and unplanned closures that can affect school calendar. You will be extremely lucky to be through with service by 27 years if you are going to a public university. But that has not stopped me from working with 3 different reputable organizations in Nigeria within 2 years of my graduation. The major reason I was able to do that was that I had engineering degree and I finished with a good grade. It would have been much tougher if I had studied a social science course or had less than a 2.1.

Besides, you can always escape the age trap if you decide to pursue further degrees overseas, particularly in the US , Canada or Middle East. It is easier to get a good job over there with an engineering degree. But you need to graduate well and have a good CGPA.

So my advice for you is: enroll for your engineering degree. Focus on your academics and aim to graduate with a first class. It is a very realistic goal. You may slip and finish with 2.1 but with a very good CGPA. That puts you in a good stead after graduation. Your opportunities will be boundless.

Cheers.......

What about a 21 years old that is aspiring to study medicine, don't you think there might be problem considering the fact that medicine is 7 years plus service making eight.

My dear brother....

There are two places to work as a doctor; private hospital and government hospitals.....

In private hospitals, the MDs would want to employ docs that have experience and some hands-on skills (that's logical, they want to make money, and they don't want to risk employing fresh docs that may mismanage some patients)

In government hospitals, you can work either as a medical officer or you pass primaries and become a registrar, and its all a matter of choice. These choices definitely have no age barrier, as both young and old doctors are employed to work as medical officers (if they don't want to specialize) or as registrars (specialists in training)....

In the medical field generally, age is never a factor, but how you can quickly diagnose diseases clinically, and to have hands-on exposure (performing basic surgeries like hernia repair, appendectomy, etc) is a great advantage....

Take care.....

Consider some factors lyk Strike, spill over, delay in NYSC. Just hope to graduate at 29 to avoid any disappointment. My friend!!! Forget age, am 28 still hopin to land my dream job. Age ko, age ni, u better face ur studies.
