The Federal government has sent food and clothes to victims of Boko Haram menace in Borno State through two of its intervention initiatives, the National Emergency Management Agency and the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE). PINE sent foodstuffs to 63,308 households in over 35 communities of Borno and Bauchi states. The distribution started in Magumeri and Nganzai on Monday and continued in Maiduguri on Tuesday.

The exercise was part of the efforts of PINE to make those affected by the Boko Haram insurgency to celebrate Sallah.

The Secretary of the initiative, Alhaji Umar Gulani, said the present distribution was a follow-up on an earlier exercise that would ensure that the team was able to fill the gaps that might exist during the initial accelerated relief distribution programme. Gulani said, “The Federal Government is willing to alleviate the plight of those affected by the insurgency in the North-East with all the possible machinery available.”

He said in Borno State, five local governments areas were visited by the team and nine councils in Bauchi. “We, in partnership with NEMA and the Red Cross, are reaching out to the targeted beneficiaries, who have not only been displaced but affected. They lack food because they have not been able to farm this year,” Gulani said.

On its part, NEMA on Tuesday began the distribution of clothes to displaced children and women in all the Internally Displaced Persons camps in Borno State. Director General of the agency, Alhaji Sani Sidi, said his recent visits to some of the IDPs camps informed the need to provide clothes for children and women, adding that the distribution would be continuous as many of the IDPs lacked good clothes.

I am from the SS, I am not really OK with the SE and its ways too. So its not always about the North....between the SE and the SS there is no bond as the SS people feel the only reason the Igbos want a relationship with them is for their oil and waters for creation of ports.

I always ask my igbo hommies, what does the SS stand to gain from the SE?....if nothing then the SS will do better being on its own as a unit or in bits.,
