Back from school and I decided to get an internship to help improve my skills and keep me busy, but so far my search has been void. It turns out places where real computer engineering skills(coding, cyber-security, embedded systems, AI) are needed in Nigeria, especially Lagos are rare, and big telecommunication firms, technological firms (such as Samsung) in Nigeria focus only on the retailing aspect and not the actual development of the products where computing and engineering skill will needed.

So my question is, where can Computer Engineers/Scientists work in Nigeria, especially Lagos? I'd appreciate it if you could list out some firms.

Note: I'm a computer engineering student with interest in coding and robotics.

Good questions, Nigeria has some good companies to work at, not too sure about Lagos, but Abuja has some. You may want to ask Seun if he's looking for someone. Or..... With your skillset, you may want to do your own thing. With your skillset you can go anywhere in the world.

Nice thread man... But I think it's better to build on your own idea by making use of your skill-set.. I think its high time every Nigerian Engineers and Scientists start thinking like Mark Zukerberg, Bill Gate, Evan Spiegel to mention but few... Lets start creating jobs with the little skills we possess and stop waiting for TOY companies. Anyways, *I Rep Computer Science*, and by GOD's grace I hope to make it big even before graduating..

Since you guys are still in school, I urge you to work on robotics projects or projects that can aid in the use of people's limbs and stuff like that. Check out these videos:

@MuhdG how is your Electrical Engineering degree going? I hope that you are enjoying it and revelling in the possibilities it yields to the world.

Yes I'm really enjoying it cheesy

I think when I started i thought it was all about "pole wires" and "transformer" lol.

But now, I am starting to see that there's a whole lot more to that.
And frankly I am really glad I am studying it!

Will start this semester's exams September Insha Allaah

Electrical Engineering is about everything and there are so many paths you can take.

You can become a Network Telecommunications Engineer and design phone systems.

You can become a Computer Engineer and design the microprocessors and embedded systems used in high-tech cars like Hybrids, Electric cars, etc.

You can work in the Electric and Gas Sector and formulate new ways that energy can be used/harnessed.

You can even be a software engineer because there are lots of programming courses you must take.

It's a very fascinating field and I urge you to continue enjoying it. smiley

@ Op, you are right. There is none or very limited place to harness your skills as a Computer Engineer, Software Engineer in Nigeria.

It is very unfortunate. I see the company I work here transform a computer box worth £1000 to final product of £1m. This is achieved by the skill set of the engineers I mentioned above. Without companies like this, those skills set will not be properly harnessed.

I hope one day I would bring this technology to Nigeria to
help nurture these precious skill set.

Very good Otuabaroku.

@everyone in this thread, remember that compute science, computer engineering and Electrical engineering is the act of using or creating computer software (computer science) or computer hardware (computer engineering and electrical engineering) as a means of solving a problem (albeit a difficult problem).

Science is science, engineering is engineering. With the knowledge base gained from this programme, it's very possible to create new things (innovation). We have tons of problems everywhere in the world, but what problem do we have in Nigeria that needs to be rectified? As someone who studied this field as well, I think a huge problem in Nigeria is Electricity and Widespread internet.....

There are many rural areas in Nigeria that are lacking both. Why can't we implement something that allows data to be transferred over a power cable (much like fibre optics, but since it uses electricity, data would be moving at the speed of electricity.

We know that Data in Fibre theoretically is light speed. The speed of electricity is 50 - 100% the speed of light. It's still fast, much faster than cable and dsl, and a cheap and affordable solution for all of us in Nigeria. Not everyone has the luxury of internet, and our electricity problem isn't the best in Nigeria. All of these are key areas in which we can focus on to further develop this beautiful nation Nigeria.

I know that many of you are still very young (age 18 - 22), but you are our future and I would like for you to start using your brains to figure out a means to an end. Meaning, I would like you the youth to start thinking of ways to solve difficult problems and to start innovating on your own. You are the future. I'm not old myself I'm 31, but I believe that I'm like an elder brother to you all.

Best of luck.
