The following day went by and even the next.
Meanwhile, Lucy had called him the other day to
work things out with him. Her mom called her
some weeks ago and told her that she wants her
to obtain her masters degree in overseas
preferably Ireland. She wouldn’t force her though.
She actually gave her two options; whether she
will love to go overseas or stay in Nigeria and
study in one of the best universities. Her mom was
surprised that she chose to stay in Nigeria.


“Mom, What’s it that you cherish about all these
foreign countries self? What about Obafemi
Awolowo University or even University of Lagos?
Don’t you think it will be nice to stay in Nigeria and
do my masters in one of these universities? See
Mom, I will stay in Nigeria.”


She has said all these and her mom concurred.
The only reason why she refused to travel abroad
was because of Tony. She doesn’t want to leave
him at all. If not because of him, she would have
loved to go overseas for her masters program.
Immediately Tony hanged up on her the other day.
She wept for countless hours and went to her
friend’s house. She narrated the whole story to her
friend. Funke; also called sharp babe- a slim, tall
and pretty lady. She doesn’t seems to give a damn
about any guy any longer having suffered enough
heartbreaks. She is a lady that has seen it all.


“Is this why you’re crying? I laugh in Greek o and I
pity your future. Let me tell you something, all
these guys are not worth our tears. They are
assholes. Do you even know what he is doing at
the moment? Is he the only guy on earth? You had
better grab the opportunity and study abroad,
leave the fool alone. You will even see handsome
and more responsible Nigerians over there. Cheer
up babe.”
She took Lucy out that afternoon and made her
forget her sorrow.


The same night, Lucy was chatting with one of her
male friends. She was smiling heartily at every
drop of his messages. She even expressed her joy
about traveling overseas to obtain her masters
degree. Some minutes later, her mom came back
home. After she had welcomed her mom, she told
her that she has given in to the idea of traveling
overseas for her masters program. Her mom was
very happy and she made the necessary calls at
once.


Two days later, the necessary arrangements has
been made. Lucy gathered the pictures of Tony
she had and burnt them. She only kept one. She
deleted all his texts and pictures on his phone. She
was crying while doing that.


“I really wish I hadn’t misconstrued what you told
me that night. I really wish I didn’t overreact. I
wish I hadn’t call you names. Of course I wasn’t
pleased with the idea that you wasted such an
amount of money. That was why I said insulting
words to you, I didn’t know you will take it too
serious. I know my words hurt but I was sorry, I
apologized. I wish you had forgiven me. It was my
fault. I am sorry. Well, since you said you have
moved on, I will never call you again. I’m glad I
don’t even know the number you just changed to
off hand, even if I am tempted to call you while
abroad, there will be no means. I just have to let
go. This is sad.”She sobbed and deleted Tony’s last picture.



The next day was her flight. 9:35AM, she was
already by the plane side. She looked into her
phone wishing to dial Tony’s number but she
thought she wasn’t welcomed. Her mom and
friend saw the expression on her face. They tried
to cheer her up thinking she was missing them
already. She looked at her phone, removed her
SIM card, destroyed it and gave the phone to her
friend. She hugged her mom and entered the
plane. Tears rolled down her cheek.

*****10:00AM****


Tony’s phone buzzed. It was the alarm he set. His
plan was to call Lucy at exact 10:00AM in order to
make up with her and to tell her how much he has
missed her and how badly he wished to see her
soon. By this time, the plane Lucy boarded was
already up in the sky. Tony dialed Lucy’s number.
“The number you have dialed is switched off,
please try again later. Thank you.” A female voice
at the other end.
