Good day Sir,

Most folks (myself inclusive) appreciate NL as a platform that reflects Nigerian society. Politics, Entertainment, Science etc all have the Naija vibe. This makes us feel at home using the site. There is however a bias is noticed in the religious section which I must bring to your notice.

Users are prompted to a TERMS OF USE before posting in the Islam section. (picture attached below). This is welcome developmemt as it will bring some sanity to that section.
As you know, Religion in Nigeria is a sensitive issue. The same sanity in the Islam section is NOT the case for Christianity (another major Nigerian religion). Sir, why is this so?
According to Wikipedia the ratio of Muslims to Christians in Nigeria is about 1:1. Muslims (49.3%), Christian (48.8%)

An 18 December 2012 report on religion and public life by the Pew Research Center stated that in 2010, 49.3 percent of Nigeria's population was Christian, 48.8 percent was Muslim, and 1.9 percent were followers of indigenous and other religions, or unaffiliated. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Nigeria
- WikiPedia

Based on the above, I suggest that a Christian section be created so we can exercise our faith and freedoms as the Muslims do.
I suggest a section for "other religions" which is about 2% to also exercise their beliefs also. This I believe is a fair approach.

May I add that this will in NO way cause fragmentation as 2 sections exist already. So adding 1 extra for Christians while leaving the default for the Others (2%) will be fine. This may even increase advert revenues for a Christian specific section. I look forward to a favourable response. Thanks.

[b]The Op may well have a point, the islam section is a secluded remote haven for muslims where they pour out and swallow their absurdities on their own without much disturbance which has not even been a good thing for the propagation of their muslims faith because they only wish to shield it from healthy scrutiny and castigation and i practically understand the Op's sentiments and the need for him to shield his religion from same.

The islam section is a very bleak waste land, it gets little attention and is one of the sections that gets little or no interesting discussion or threads, even its topic that hits front page still doesn't get up to 2pages of comments. and in as much as it will be a matter of fairness to also give the Christians their own section it is also good to point out that it will still only turn out to be as boring as the islam section.

I think religious diversity and positions are what makes this section interesting and up the chat, remove that and the very fabrics of it crumbles. . .

You Christians can have the other section to yourselves naa. Thought tolerance ought to be one of christian virtues so why complain about Muslims posting on your section,y'all ought to be glad sef as it'ld probably be an avenue to interact with them and hopefully share the gospel with them

Diversity can be sustained in a third section which I labelled "others" (2%). Else, the diversity should also include Islam in the mix. Nothing diverse about secluding Muslims (almost 50% of the population).

Johnydon22 always dropping as it's hot cheesy

Op, if that happens, you'll see how boring that section will be.

Imagine creating a topic and all the comments will be like:

'amen'

'I believe, amen'

'God bless u Op'

'Jesus is lord' etc

What sense will such a thread make?

Apart from politics, family, culture, science and technology and sometimes education, this is the only section were knowledge is shared everyday. A lot of people, irrespective of religious affiliation have gained a lot from that section already.

Don't you think the other section might be envying us?

You shouldn't complain, you be proud. Receptivity breeds enlightenment.

Unless you are new to NL, your statements (especially the bolded) are false. I have seen Christians debate scriptures and beliefs here. You should know there is diversity in Christianity also. It is quite interesting and can be more interesting but for unneccessary trolling.

As for the envying... funny, when I look at the advert rates for other sections and see that for the religious, the difference is clear.
Religion rate is ₦1,650.11/week. Which ranks in the category of Jokes Etc: ₦1,314.93/week, NYSC: ₦1,128.15/week etc. I am sure a Christian only section can do better. Source: https://www.nairaland.com/adrates

Like I said, the 2% OTHERS section can still engage everyone.

Even on sundays, you never get to see edifying and spiritual topics, compared to muslims friday topics....
You are most likely to see topics on " atheism against christianity" on sundays. last sundays topic was " Why Criticism Of Religion Is Important In Contemporary Africa"...even though the writer did a bad job trying to balance his disbelief for religions...We know the anti christ spirit is one against the christian God, even though they try to balance it.
Engage most atheists and you will find out that they are more particular about the christian God.

But hallelujah, we are freerer than those who have been deceived that they are free, we are more free thinking than the so called free-thinker, we are free from sin and death by the spirit of truth.

Praise to the God of the mind, the author and finisher of
intuitions, science and technology..He gave us
brains..Job35:11

Dnt expect a reply or a reaction op, its all in a bid to reduce the world to a godless society, and dont envy islams page...no one is after them because even demons know who God is. Just the same way illuminati puppets sing and blaspheme against the christian God...

The minute he created another section, others will be demanding yet another section.

Seun is coming with his stamp though.

OP, Nice try. Its just that Seun is clearly bent on humiliating Christianity & presents many baseless excuses to refuse christians their own section.

He clearly enjoys & even joins atheists & muslims to bash Christianity while speedily moving any topic attacking Christianity to front page.

There are many anti-Christs these end times 1jn 2:18.Just hoping he's not an anti-Christ undercover cos his madness against Christianity defies logic.

Sorry. You can't have your section because you are too troublesome. Your atheist friends are with u to make the religion section interesting.

So live with it. Seun is not your daddy and he didnt create Nairaland for you.

Seun has 3 options as it is-

-Create a christian section, or
-Close the islam section and let everyone use the same religion section, or
-Leave things as they are and see christians and atheists grumble till something happens.

May God guide Seun to the correct path because this issue keeps rising. Uneasy is the head that wears the crown.

Well I think things are best left as it is bro. Imagine having a religion section where Christians and Muslims open threads? The bad mouthing and in fighting will be just unbearable, frankly, it will be worse than Politics section.

Due to the religious diversity of the Nairaland community, it's impossible to come up with policies that will make everyone happy. We can't give everyone what they want, even if we try, because some people want the opposite of what some other people want. We do not seek to favour or help or disfavour or harm any religion; our priority is the Nairaland community as a whole - what's best for Nairalanders as a group. If you have complaints about our policies, or questions about why we're doing this or that, please send your complaints to the supermods via the home page. We'll respond to your complaints as quickly as we can.
