I hate snakes with a serious passion, i can't grow to love them, there ain't no way about that. I had a girlfriend that owned one and as soon as i knew, i stopped going to visit her at home. They make me get goose-bumps, ewww, they're nasty. |

Interesting stories. I have noticed that most Nigerians (and my wife's one of them) hate snakes with a passion. Never had any snakes as pets and probably never will. They're reptiles and thus have a reptile brain. Can't really bond with these creatures. I once went to a magicians show as a kid (I was about 10 then) and they asked for a volunteer for a trick with snakes. So I stepped forward and they put é snakes around my neck. The first thing that went through my head was just how heave these were. Those 2 snakes combined weighed almost as much as me. Walking around with snakes really is good exercise |

Scorpio:They're not that scary. It's important that they just fed a short time ago. They won't do much then. Takes them an awfully long time to digest I wouldn't go near any snake in the wild though |

i still won't go close to them even if the venom is completely out and they can't bite. i have to be really drunk before i'll do that. |

Hey, im not sure if anyone still reads this any more but il chat anyway :p What is everyones problem with snakes here? You all seem to have real issues with them. I guess none of you have come into contact with a real pet snake then because they can be beautiful and amazing pets. Obviously having a pet mamba or coral snake is for the more excessive individual but most snakes are wonderful pets. They are not slimy, in fact pythons can feel as soft as velvet. If you handle them regulary they become very calming. Its amazing to watch an animal thats so different from us actually live its life. And thats ALL ITS DOING. It doesnt purposely want to eat or harm you, and they only ever bite when YOU scare it or YOU harm and threaten them. So please give them a break and consider them not as some beast only placed on this planet to hurt you but an animal in its own right. I have had snakes all my l;ife and none have ever bitten me. |

Re: Snake Lovers in Nigeria: introduce your pet snakes by Oracle(m): 1:35am On Mar 13, 2006 |
it is unthinkable that people/humans keep snakes as pets those things (snakes) were never meant to be kept or loved so snake lovers beware

Hehe. Snakes. Why do we all hate snakes so much? I guess it's because some are poisonous. |

I heard this tale about a family that kept a snake (cobra or python) can't really remember which. They loved and took care of it. One day they came back to find out that it had crawled out of its cage and swallowed their one year old kid. It was awful. They found it sleeping, apparently satiisfied with the big meal it had eaten. Snakes? God forbid! |
Re: Snake Lovers in Nigeria: introduce your pet snakes by Seun(m): 12:49pm On Mar 14, 2006 |
It's an unlikely story. How can anyone leave a one year old alone in the house with a python? As far as I know, snakes don't have human-like emotions like dogs or monkeys. |

I could keep snakes as pet provided it gets its injection monthly. Also the teeths has to be checked every two weeks becasue they grow fast. What i will not do is have a cat or mouse as pet when there is snake in the house. If u work into a house and see water foutain with snake inside, it looks very preety. They are preety animals. Snakes poisions are expensive package for the research industry. Their poision is known to be used for the treatment of cancer and other deadly illness. Also the anti-snake poision is found in the venoms of these wonderful creatures, Contrally to what most people think, snakes only bite humans when disturbed. They eat only small animals like rodents and ants. Their policy is "dont disturb me and i will not disturb you" Even when you accidentally walk on a snake and it bites you, it is becasue you have hurt him or her. Provided you dont smarch the poor thing, u r good to go. Every specie of snake behave diffrently, some die after giving birth as God did it, some give birth and live normal life like humans, their mating is especially intresting to watch as they cuddle and rope each other. I could answer your questions about snakes |

obong, admit it, u eat snakes and not keep them. |
Re: Snake Lovers in Nigeria: introduce your pet snakes by obong(m): 3:54pm On Mar 14, 2006 |
Nah, i don't eat them. i just like them as pets. many of the stories here about snakes shows an unfortunate ignorance. most are ok and lack venom. and even those with venom canbe taken care of, if you pay close attention. im generally an animal lover so there are animals i don't have a fascination for, anyway |

jeez imagine a full grown, hungry, pet boa constrictor left alone in the same house with a baby! just don't want to think of the outcome of that! |

Many people here in Aust keep snakes as pets I personally don't like them. When I was in primary school we spent a day at the zoo where I held a rather big one, it felt disgusting. I grew up in the country where snakes were a common sight, we had a cat who would bring them home When I was 10 years old a 5ft brown snake bit my kitten, Oscar, the vet couldn't save him The local pet store has several different snakes for sale they feed them mice and guinea pigs |
Re: Snake Lovers in Nigeria: introduce your pet snakes by obong(m): 4:54pm On Mar 14, 2006 |
snakes generally don't like to eat humans. most deaths by snakes come from the bites of a poisonous one, not from a boa or python eating a man. so babies and the like are generally ok. but i dont see why someone would leave a baby at ome alone anyway. |
Re: Snake Lovers in Nigeria: introduce your pet snakes by Ebano(m): 6:47pm On Mar 14, 2006 |
snakes are dangerous creatures i know of a man who had a poisonous pet snake in his house and he was bitten by the same snake while trying to feed it . unfortunately he did not survive the bite. Also a full grown python can strangle an adult man not to talk of a baby. snakes are unpredictable creatures anyone keeping them risks his life and of those around him. me if i see any snake in my house i will kill it before it kills me |
Re: Snake Lovers in Nigeria: introduce your pet snakes by obong(m): 10:06pm On Mar 14, 2006 |
it depends on the python. some of them don't grow very long so they are harmless. very few types of snakes on the planet can kill or eat a man. the african rock python, burmese python, anconda and one other one i've forgotten |

I live in Lansing, Michigan in the US and one of my colleagues at work own a snake as a pet. According to him, he loves the way he curdles around his neck because he gives him a gentle massage. Well I advised him to take the snake to the zoo because if it grows 2 big he might not be able to pet it no more and ""one day will be one day wey monkey go go market wey in no go return". |

Poisonous or not, I don't want any of those slimy, scary creatures around me. |
Re: Snake Lovers in Nigeria: introduce your pet snakes by Dojo(m): 3:51pm On Mar 16, 2006 |
Whether poisonous or not, I don't and can never like a snake. EVen the Bible categorised the snake as unclean animal. Mamba (or should I call you snakeman), Please change your name so that pple won't be thinking you are evil. |

yeah i have a pet snake called zulimana my primary school was situated in a forest . Animals and reptiles were common visitors snakes crept into our classrooms .wewill be screaming our guts out until the college people came to collect them . We were taken to day trips down at the university Zoology section where they kept live snakes then they had caught the biggest one, it was so long, we were told to poke it with sticks to observe its reactions the snake i feared then was the horned viper that thing was short o but it was dangerous we saw it in our playground once the entire school came to a standstill .we were all locked in till it was caught and taken away . i personally do not fear snakes as long as they stay where they are i have seen a lot and met with al ot fact to face but they do not hurt me or my friends |
