D.N.A-Some of us have heard the word before, and some may actually have superficial knowledge regarding it. But for the sake of everyone, lets look at a few basic facts about the D.N.A

1. D.N.A stands for deoxyribonucleic acid. It is a threadlike substance mostly found in the nucleus of cells, and it contains coded information on how the cells will behave.

2. D.N.A was first identified in 1869 by chemist Friedrich Miescher

3. Nearly all the cells in our body contain D.N.A

4. As already stated, the D.N.A is threadlike in nature, but the thread is shaped like a long twisted ladder. It has groups of rungs called ''base pairs'' which are each made up of two chemical substances from a group of four substances(adenine, cytosine, guanine and thymine).

5. Just as a computer stores and processes information, the D.N.A can store information(chemically) and interprete such information in different ways, eg, the information stored in the DNA (as codes) determine how tall you are going to be, your complexion, the colour of your eyes, that deep voice you are killing ladies with, that booty guys are dying for, etc, literally evrything about your body's behaviour. And not to forget, it also determines the traits you are going to pass on to your offspring.

6. The codes that form the instructions in the DNA were not understood until the 1960's, almost a century after the D.N.A was discovered.

7. The D.N.A of one the smallest organisms, bacteria contains information that can fill a 1000 page book.

8. What about that of a human? The genome(our complete set of DNA) contains information that can fill a library of several thousand volumes. So next time you see that guy you think you are smarter than, give him some respect, he's also a walking library, lol.

There are lots of other facts about the DNA you can always research on. It just boggles my mind when I look at myself and wonder how wonderfully I was made.

Yea, and to think that all this is contained in our bodies! How complex we are! Simply amazing!!!

And yet some people think this and others happens by accidental evolution !

I dont get it. The complexity of life just makes evolution senseless, always points to an intelligence behind everything.

K,make i add wetin i know . As greatwaters said,DNA is made up of four nitrogen base, phosphate group and a sugar group. DNA contains the instructions required for an organism to develop, survive and reproduce. One thing about these DNA is also the way they communicate, just like the way we want to make a call to someone, there is a sender, the message, the receiver and then a stable network on our phones. DNA also make use of ligands(molecules) and receptors(proteins) to communicate which must be done in a homeostatic(stable) environment. First, there is an extracellular molecule, which must bind to a receptor protein, the signal received is called a ligand, then the molecule that receives the signal is a receptor, and we also have intracellular signalling protein, which act as enzymes that help the message to get to the receiver(receptor or target protein). Mutation in these proteins are what cause tumor cells and cancer. Le fini, merci.
