8 Questions For Nairaland Atheists. by Missali(f): 11:51am On Aug 17, 2015
I first learnt of the word 'Atheist' on Nairaland and was surprised to discover there are people who don't actually believe in the existence of a Supreme Being. I simply was surprised that's all, not angered, hateful or whatever extreme feelings there could be.
Over time I have come to see Atheists as (seemingly) intelligent people but time and again I get blown away. Here are 8 questions I want to ask Atheists on Nairaland:

1. WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THE RELIGION SECTION?
Most of the posts in the Religion Section are made by Atheists and I start to wonder why they care so much about something that doesn't exist, Isn't that a huge irony?

2. THEY ASK SILLY QUESTIONS.
There is a proverb; he who asks questions can not get lost. Sincerely though, some of these questions can make you lost and even make you doubt the sanity of these Atheist posters. Somebody will just wake up one morning and ask; 'Who is God? Where is God? Why is the sky blue?
If you ask me, na who I go ask?

3. ATHEISTS DON'T ASK QUESTIONS.
If you're trying to answer an Atheist's questions, forget it. A question is asked by someone whose heart is receptive to answers and not someone who already has an answer to your question, only to ask another question.

4. WHY DO ATHEISTS SPELL GOD AS 'god'?
This is even a forgotten case. I may not be a Muslim but would never spell Allah as a.l.lah. I may not be a traditionalist but will never spell Sango as sango. I wouldn't even spell an Atheist as atheist. Common sense people!

5. WHY ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH CHRISTIANITY?
Seriously, is Christianity the only religion in the world? So you left Christianity and you feel happy and free. I'm happy for you. Now, can we all move on like the world doesn't revolve around you?

6. SAVED THE WORLD YET?
Atheists go about crying 'foul, foul' whenever Religion is mentioned. They claim it is the cause of farmine, fuel scarcity, unemployment rate etc. So now you're non-religious, saved the world yet?

7. STOP PREACHING.
If a Muslim preaches, its alright. If a Buddhist does, its fine. If Amadioha's priest even preaches to me, it's understandable. They are trying to gather members, but when I see Atheists preaching (or is it trying to convince people) to believe in nothing, what really is your aim?

8. CAN YOU JUST BE YOURSELF?
Not everyone is amazed or even concerned about your non-religious affilliation. If Ruth likes she can fast for 40 days. If Amina likes, she can wear an Hijab that is as long as Lagos to Sokoto. If Anwuli likes, she can pour ogogoro on that tree every morning. If you like, say our 'skydaddy' is a figment of our imagination. Everyone has their path. So can you kndly be yourself?

We enjoy having fun arguing with you believers. Is a choice. In the other hand, we are invoking consciousness on people of different faith in Nigeria to reconsider their beliefs and think critical, ask some previously impossible big questions, and avoid being fanatic and dogmatic in each individual believes.

If you're a fan on Nairaland religion section, i bet you, you'll learn alot of things aside form what your holy book is teaching you and also you will be aware of other religions that are in existence, thus reducing your phobic thinking like racism, prejudice, harmful religious induced behavioral impulses(like boko haram), racial discrimination and so many others inappropriate, irrational and non-objective acts engaged by believers.

We also care so much about your delusion and its harmful effects on the society.

Asking who is god and where he is; how is silly questions? Let me assume you didn't know much about' flying unicorn', asking who/what is a flying unicorn and where it's existing, how is it a silly questioner? You seems don't know how silly questions really looks like. This is one of those things we are complaining about, religion will teach you not to ask some relevant questions of which you would always ask same questions on other things aside religion. what's so special about religion. it is absurdity thinking that way sis.

3. ATHEISTS DON'T ASK QUESTIONS.
If you're trying to answer an Atheist's questions, forget it. A question is asked by someone whose heart is receptive to answers and not someone who already has an answer to your question, only to ask another question

No no no, you get it wrong. You've already made up your mind to believing a certain idea, therefore may not pave way to any other ideas that may counter your presupposed concepts. It pains me witnessing a believer arguing and defending the indefensible. You really mean the bolded above. Are you in religion section atall.

We don't give a damn about those things. It is a fantasy idea that mean nothing to an atheist. Our concern is to convey such info to the receiver.

5. WHY ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH CHRISTIANITY?
Seriously, is Christianity the only religion in the world? So you left Christianity and you feel happy and free. I'm happy for you. Now, can we all move on like the world doesn't revolve around you?

We are not obsessed with christainity. We live in a Christian area and knew much about Christianity (some of us has been a member of such). Muslems atheist will tend to be more obsessed with muslim religion.
Mind you, we are pretty much happy and free now, we are only having fun arguing with you and showing you the errors in what you take as true.

6. SAVED THE WORLD YET?
Atheists go about crying 'foul, foul' whenever Religion is mentioned. They claim it is the cause of farmine, fuel scarcity, unemployment rate etc. So now you're non-religious, saved the world yet?

Atheists are not in the position that religion is the cause of all human problems, but we are concerned about those ones that are avoidable which religion perpetrates like boko haram, ISIS, and crashes between Christians and Muslims etc.
We are contributing hugely by arguing, debating and spiking chat with you on Nairaland and outside here thus getting the world rid of false believe and illusion. The number of anti-theists are increasing everyday on Nairaland wink

Our aim is to stop you from making noise in the street, inside public buses, and public places. Also the idea of separation of religious idea from our government, i bill was passed into law last time that encourages child sex abuse - age for sex is from is 11 years. So do you like the law? It is religiously induced muslem ideology. It rubs us of our objective and rational laws and governance. Other aims are based on things like abortion, homosexuality, conventional moral codes, sex education, condom in africa ridden with HIV etc
All these are not define and former but are imparting in one way or the other.

We can be ourselves when you start it first. The points i made in your number 7 will be your starting point. Your beliefs should be restricted in your home if not in your brain.

1. WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THE RELIGION SECTION?
Most of the posts in the Religion Section are made by Atheists and I start to wonder why they care so much about something that doesn't exist, Isn't that a huge irony?
No we don't care in fact we will be happy to be on our own without disturbance. . But when people throw their absurdities to our face we can't just seat and watch.. we can't just watch you rub fairy tales all over our face, maybe you are not that observant to see the effect of religions in the day to day lives of everyone in this country. Maybe you haven't seen the countless churches that wouldn't allow you sleep at night with bangs from incredible speakers and instruments, maybe people coming to your house to force and threaten you with jewish myths, people rubbing it on your face in buses, schools and virtually everywhere.

Even here on nairaland they create thread to chastise atheist just like this one you termed a "Question" but in the real sense one is sure to notice its not really one.

If i am to remain silent i would be guilty of complicity or my silence will be taken as one. Gone are those days people will watch you pour out myths in public and teach them as truth, teaching superstitions as reality even with the cankerwormous effect it has on our society and people.

No when you teach myths as truth you should be ready to defend it because people are bound to refute, challenge and argue on it... Isn't it hypocritic you want atheists to leave religion section alone when you lot cannot leave atheists alone but always resort to bashing and threatening them.

I don't believe spiderman exists but if you try to teach otherwise in public am sure you would expect me to argue and discourse it, thats exactly what we are doing here... If you want everyone to mind their business, why not mind yours first

2. THEY ASK STUPID QUESTIONS.
We all can clearly see this was not a question after all. . . because this number 2 is in no way a question...

3. ATHEISTS DON'T ASK QUESTIONS.
If you're trying to answer an Atheist's questions, forget it. A question is asked by someone whose heart is receptive to answers and not someone who already has an answer to your question, only to ask another question.
Even though this number three contradicts number 2 point i will still address it.

Someone asked "how this?" and you conjured up one "hoo haa put it in a boomboom" and expect them to believe it?
you tell someone "a virgin was impregnated by a God" and expect them to just swallow it mindlessly? of course such absurdities will always birth more and more questions. . if you are not ready for the question then don't bother starting a discourse in the first place.

Unless as usual you want to save your religion from healthy scrutiny and arguments..

4. WHY DO ATHEISTS SPELL GOD AS 'god'?
This is even a forgotten case. I may not be a Muslim but would never spell Allah as allah. I may not be a traditionalist but will never spell Sango as sango. I wouldn't even spell an Atheist as atheist. Common sense people!
Remarkably "God" is a noun that is used to refer to every monotheistic deity, and we have hundreds of such monotheistic religions..

so the word is not a name of any deity in particular. . its merely a lingual expression and has Germanic and Scandinavian pegan origin....

The word "God" can be used which ever way one deems fit...

5. WHY ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH CHRISTIANITY?
Seriously, is Christianity the only religion in the world? So you left Christianity and you feel happy and free. I'm happy for you. Now, can we all move on like the world doesn't revolve around you?
Seems you have not been in nairaland lately because most threads about atheists are from Christians, even this one also adds weight to that.

We get threads everyday pin pointing, threatening and chastising atheists by christians daily here and you shout when they accord you the same favour? am very sure Muslims too get their own share of refutation by atheists on this forum but you only get much of what you give....

I do not see any Hindu here trying to demonize African culture to uphold Hindu traditions, or telling me or youwhat God (Brahma) will do to any of us because we don't believe it.

neither do i see any Muslim creating threads to threaten atheists. . they all keep and swallow their absurdities themselves. . i for one create threads against Islam but they dont play the victims card like you always want to play.

Until you stop pouring and feeding the public myths as truth, you wouldn't have to worry about people who refute it..

6. SAVED THE WORLD YET?
Atheists go about crying 'foul, foul' whenever Religion is mentioned. They claim it is the cause of farmine, fuel scarcity, unemployment rate etc. So now you're non-religious, saved the world yet?
Am sure every sane person know the effects of religion on our society and at the same cause know the effect of politics and can differentiate between a political and religious cause, maybe you don't.

We cry "Foul" when people are taught to abandon reason, when violence and wrath are encouraged instead of empathy and compassion... Like the recent sentence of 9 people in Kano to death just because they insulted a sun baked old dead arab man.. I do not need to list to you the effects of these in our society..

7. STOP PREACHING.
If a Muslim preaches, its alright. If a Buddhist does, its fine. If Amadioha's priest even preaches to me, it's understandable. They are trying to gather members, but when I see Atheists preaching (or is it trying to convince people) to believe in nothing, what really is your aim?

lmao you are not very bright are you...??

Atheist preach what exactly? They only refute, argue, discourse and place your beliefs under scrutiny?

Muslims, Buddhist, Christians and all have the right to preach (That's fine) and in you biased and bigoted post you forgot to add And an atheist also has the right to question it ……

Exactly the point...

I have no problem what you believe, worship or do.. I don't care if you think a gold pink diamond Dog exists.

But when you try rubbing your belief in the diamond dog on me, when you want to infuse the so called laws of the Dog into the state, when you shout and encroach into my own space, when you want to tell me what to do so as not to offend your diamond dog.. when people are blown up in the name of the dog, when you disturb my sleep in the name of the dog, or threatening me up and down with a burning fire or try to pour out your dog hypothesis as a universal truth......

Then we have a problem...because you have thrown it to my face and i am bound to reject and fight back and voice out my own sentiment..

So why don't you first keep your beliefs to yourself with that you wouldn't need to worry about people who refute it

Firstly, Just take a snapshot of the religion section and tell me if 80% of posts there were not created by non-atheists.
Secondly, that it is called Religion section means everything with the slightest hint of Religion falls under its umbrella both pro and counter religious beliefs and doctrines, hence the presence of ATR practitioners, Atheists, Christians, Deists, Muslims e.t.c

I only see Number 1 as worthy of a single response from me, the others are a waste of my time.

your post seems to say something different. It is obvious that you are not bright. You sound pained, you sound hateful, calm down
Over time I have come to see Atheists as (seemingly) intelligent people but time and again I get blown away. Here are 8 questions I want to ask Atheists on Nairaland:
These are really naive questions but i will answer them nonetheless.

1. WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THE RELIGION SECTION?
Most of the posts in the Religion Section are made by Atheists and I start to wonder why they care so much about something that doesn't exist, Isn't that a huge irony?
Now this is the dumbest question i have been asked all day. My dear do you believe in Allah? No you don't!Then why do you and your "Christian brothers" make so much ado about Allah's fakeness and Muhammad's pervy? Why do you cry foul about Islam being a false religion? Or please answer this simple one: Why do Christian folks visit the Islamic section? The fact that i don't believe in a thing doesn't mean i can't discuss it, infact i have to discuss it to prove to you that you are wrong.

2. THEY ASK STUPID QUESTIONS.
Now you are just being hateful, no one asks such questions. I guess you culled that last one from pomo tomato advert.

3. ATHEISTS DON'T ASK QUESTIONS.
If you're trying to answer an Atheist's questions, forget it. A question is asked by someone whose heart is receptive to answers and not someone who already has an answer to your question, only to ask another question.
Confused much? Your second questions says: Atheists ask stupid questions. Now you are saying atheists don't ask questions? I don't get it, are stupid questions not questions still? Be decisive girl
So god feels less than god when his name is spelt with small letters? Why do you spell other gods as "gods"? because you don't care about them. You spell god as God because you believe he is your all in all and spelling it with small letters is disrespectful. Besides, god is not the name of any particular supreme being, god is the general name for supreme beings, so why are you attributing it to yahweh alone? Atheists don't care about supreme beings so they can spell god anyway they deem fit. Meanwhile since when did "atheist" become a supreme being? Why is it on that list? SMDH

5. WHY ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH CHRISTIANITY?
Seriously, is Christianity the only religion in the world? So you left Christianity and you feel happy and free. I'm happy for you. Now, can we all move on like the world doesn't revolve around you?
another false claim. It is either you enjoy being silly or you are just plain ignorant. Atheists discuss about every religion, Christianity is the most discussed religion here that is why atheists here discuss it more. But then again you said you first came across atheists on nairaland so i'm gonna stick with my "you're ignorant theory" pick up a book or your phone and browse dearie

6. SAVED THE WORLD YET?
Atheists go about crying 'foul, foul' whenever Religion is mentioned. They claim it is the cause of farmine, fuel scarcity, unemployment rate etc. So now you're non-religious, saved the world yet?
i have never seen an atheists that cries foul! Foul! That is a really weird cry. Well when the number of sane people in an area is very much less than the number of insane people then that area is bound to be dirty don't you think?

Atheists don't really owe you any explanations for their active presence on Nairaland.

However, let me indulge you by saying that Nairaland atheists, having seen the dessolation of our mental and social landscape by used and discarded religious weapons of mass destruction, are patriotically motivated to push back, roll back and ultimately degrade LETHAL MYTHOLOGIES to insignificance.
Simple.

What do you mean by STOP PREACHING? Atheists do not preach, we teach. We teach people to use their cognitive abilities, we teach people to reason, we teach people to question all. You asked in your last question why we haven't changed the world, unlike you nonchalant Christian folks, we wish to change the world so we are recruiting. Care to Join us? wink

8. CAN YOU JUST BE YOURSELF?

we don't care what you say or think, keep your concern to yourself. Atheists are the realest folks around so we are always ourselves. I mean who else will we be? We are not like some deluded folks who want to be like a Jewish man. I hear you are part of that group.

The truth is all your questions are silly and do not deserve answers. Has Christianity clouded your brain so much? Be free my dear, BE FREE.

Isnt that wrong for you? Do not be yoked with unbelievers.

Most of those inventions, discoveries and innovations in science are not only the product of atheism. Many brilliant theists are at its apex too. But the funniest part of it is that those theist scientists do wear off their delusion clothes whenever they are on research mission.

You are right but you made mention of she using atheist technologies, then i want to let you know that Atheism don't produce anything but people under the umbrella of atheism and different other religious believes are doing those things. Maybe she is using technologies made by theists. It doesn't matter.

Well Written.
Most of them call themselves free thinkers, they seem to think that religion is a sort of chain that hinderd them from doing what they want. Thereby creating a false impression that certain things thats regarded as a sin, is totally alright.

But its clear they cant do without religion, infact religion is what spurs them on.
Just say God exist and you have multitudes ranting around.
Lmao!.
If they say God doesnt exist why then are they so obsessed with christianity.?
If they dont like religion, why are they obssessed with religious activities.

There's one thing God made us different from other animals and thats FREE WILL.

Do what you want, if you think its right, but remember there are consequences for doing evil.
All in all, i respect them as humans and i have like a couple of them on my facebook.

As for me, i'm a Christian for Life.

So many religionists have done that, religions are also not bad because they too have their good uses and in some case have a very good influence in the lives of some people..

Religionists as well as irreligious people can be good or bad and also impact the world tremendously. .

I am only against the teaching of superstition as truth, child indoctrination and violence

We all can clearly see this was not a question after all. . . because this number 2 is in no way a question...

Seems you have not been in nairaland lately because most threads about atheists are from Christians, even this one also adds weight to that.

We get threads everyday pin pointing, threatening and chastising atheists by christians daily here and you shout when they accord you the same favour? am very sure Muslims to get their own share of refutation by atheists on this forum but you only get much of what you give....

Am sure every sane person know the effects of religion on our society and at the same cause know the effect of politics and can differentiate between a political and religious cause, maybe you don't.

We cry "Foul" when people are thought to abandon reason, when violence and wrath are encouraged instead of empathy and compassion... Like the recent sentence of 9 people in Kano to death just because they insulted a sun baked old dead arab man.. I do not need to list to you the effects of these in our society..

lmao you are not very bright are you...??

Atheist preach what exactly? They only refute, argue, discourse and place your beliefs under scrutiny?

Muslims, Buddhist, Christians and all have the right to preach (That's fine) and in you biased and bigoted post you forgot to add And an atheist also has the right to question it ……

Gbam! thread closed grin grin

So many religionists have done that, religions are also not bad because they too have their good uses and in some case have a very good influence in the lives of some people..

Religionists as well as irreligious people can be good or bad and also impact the world tremendously. .

I am only against the teaching of superstition as truth, child indoctrination and violence

Nicely put. I have met very kind and loving christians and muslims and I've also met silly ones. Lots of theists get this wrong about atheists. It would be unwise for me to ignore all the good things that RCCG, for instance, have done in people's lives. RCCG actually share food in lots of ghettos and have helped many secure jobs, set their lives on the right path, get good connections, meet their spouses etc and I personally listen to lots of pastors and have some as my role models.

But that doesn't mean I believe everything they say. I believe I owe it to myself to be able to discern what is right from what is wrong.

@fearlesschicken, take it easy on your fellow theists o

Oga/Madam calm down. You sound so bitter lol. Are we fighting? Why is everyone getting so worked up? If I drink from a stream, I care less if the price of bottled water goes up. So also, atheists should not bother about other people's 'gods'... Except of course, the very issue turns them on.

fearlesschicken:
I m not an athiest but I see this question irks with ignorance everywhere.

You claim that they are obsessed with christianity yet you decided to come up online to create such silly questions to attack athiest. Who is really the obsessed one here?

My dear please can you mention a good religionist (if there is a word like that) who has really impacted something into this world? mother thersa the biggest fraud in history, hilter a devout catholic I don't need to tell you the story. From the founders of microsoft, apple, facebook even our beautiful NL they are all athiest so what is your point?

Stop embarassing we few reasonable christians on this forum and take the last question has an advise to yourself. Mind your business!

Oga, dis your post sha... Will read it later, making sense.

We enjoy having fun arguing with you believers.

*You just hit the nail on the head. You enjoy having fun? Great. Don't get bitter when the tables turn.

In the other hand, we are invoking consciousness on people of different faith in Nigeria to reconsider their beliefs and think critical, ask some previously impossible big questions, and avoid being fanatic and dogmatic in each individual believes.

*You have a right to 'invoke' whatever you feel, it's left for people to accept. That being said, accept others have that right too.

If you're a fan in Nairaland religion section, i bet you, you'll learn alot of things aside form what your holy book is teaching you and also you will be aware of other religions that are in existence, thus reducing your phobic thinking like racism, prejudice, harmful religious induced behavioral impulses(like boko haram), racial discrimination and so many others inappropriate, irrational and non-objective acts engaged by believers.

*Oga, I am aware of other religions and I am not racist etc gbogbotigbo.

We also care so much about your delusion and its harmful effects on the society.

*'Your' delusion you mean?

Asking who is god and where he is; how is silly questions? Let me assume you didn't know much about' flying unicorn', asking who/what is a flying unicorn and where it exists, how does it amke you silly questioner? You seems don't know how a silly questions really looks like. This is one of those things we are complaining about, religion will teach you not to ask some relevant questions of which you would always ask same questions on other things aside religion. what's so special about religion. it is absurdity thinking that way sis.

*Is that all you thought about, flyng unicorns? What about batman, spiderman and that other funny one, skydaddy?

No no no, you get it wrong. You've already made up your mind to believing a certain idea, therefore may not pave way to any other ideas that may counter your presupposed concept. It pains me witnessing a believer arguing and defending the indefensible. You really mean the bolded above. Are you in religion section atall.

We don't give a damn about those things. It is a fantasy idea that mean nothing to an atheist. Our concern is to convey such info to the receiver.

*You don't believe, good. You convey? Good. We believe? Good. We convey? Bad. So much for equality smh.

We can be ourselves when you start it first. The points i made in your number 7 will be your starting point. Your beliefs should be restricted in your home if not in your brain.

Stop being naive. Your god deserves a small g because it isn't real.

Atheists might be believers in science .... After all, how you following X religion prove that your "supreme being" exists without even 1 scientific evidence of this supreme being's existence or abilities.

I can give you 8 valid reasons a robber will justify his actions.
1. Robbery is a profession, yeah. Just like the proprietor of a school gets a huge chunk of Income and pays teachers who work their a*ses off meagre stipends. It can be argued as a form of robbery too.

2. In christianity, no sin is too little. Stealing and lying is considered the same. Better to go into full-time robbery, shebi na d same sin liar sin.undecided

3. Life aint fair. Intelligent Ben spends years jobless after working so hard in school and he sees a former mate {a dullard} making things happen. Better to grab life by the neck right.

4. Morality is subjective. I like this one cos nothing actually is wrong. The perception of wrong has probably been recycled through generations and passed down to us. Worse is, the custodians of the law are humans. A restriction from certain acts with guaranteed punishments if i act otherwise, I perceive slavery.

5. Our corrupt leaders. They gulp in money meant for the masses. They are the real robbers. Corporate robbers. They above the law too. Being a law abiding citizen under these thiefs is argueably pointless.

6. Ben'll do it for a while, make some money and try investments and a brand new life. Thats a good place to start.

7. Ben's dad has not been paid for some months, his mom is critically ill in urgent need of medical attention. No feasible external help. Sounds like a very viable option.

8. Its actually none of your buisness how ben chooses to live his life. He has made a decision just like every other human. We cant be judgemental yeah. Allow him to be, If he's lucky and has become successful, he might just employ you in one of his companies.

In todays world, anything, just anything can be argued and justified. Homosexuality, necrophilia, incest, beastiality are ok long as they're not causing harm to the public. Even paedophilia can be argued to be acceptable. The word "underage" is also argueably a recycled belief passed down to our generation. Consent is the most important thing right. Who then set the age range for human growth stages and why has it become generally acceptable.undecided

Op, The point is you'll get the answers/justification you seek. Life is a mystery to the physical, a mystery that is not probable.

Atheists do not believe in God, and they seriously need people not to believe with them. Its more of a spiritual work. Its quite unfortunate that their plights might never go outside the borders of nairaland. It will amaze you that their cowardice extends to their homes for some of them where its their little secret that must rot in them. Its shouldnt be surprising that this is where they can pour out their minds. Hence the reason why they swarm religion section day and night.

You should change the posts titie to "8 questions for nairaland God-haters". Atheists simply "dont believe". Its that simple. Its the same with me and santa claus. Ill need to believe he exists before investing my time talking about him/it. If he really dosent exist, then Ill need my brain checked if i invest so much time talking about him/it.

God-haters actually spend more time thinking about God than many religious people do. Who did you think the bible was referring to in Romans 1:30. undecided

Atheists are lonely souls on a lonely road. They need the attention and company to mitigate their self-elected misery. That's why they make a lot of fuss over God and Christianity.

God and christianity,Thats the target of the devil, to sow seeds of doubt into believers. I guess atheists dont care about muslims, they dont seem interested in "enlightening" the muslims. Check islams page, lol. Mark 3:23-24 explains why though.
