The thing I have discovered about small businesses, like bars, eateries, pharmacies, supermarkets etc,

Is how poor many of them pay their workers,

I got acquainted with a girl that works at a booming pharmacy, asked her how much she earns, and she told me 7k per month, I was like shocked,

How can someone survive on such an amount,

And the owner of the pharmacy is cruising around town in the latest camry, and living in his own house, while this workers slave away for an amount, that can't even feed them , talk less of paying rent,

And it's the same story in bars, supermarkets eateries etc,

Their workers salary is always in the range of 5k-15k,

It's just pure wickedness to me, and many of this businesses are booming, yet the owners refuse to pay their workers a decent wage,

Any job that pays asalary less than 30k in this country is slavery,

The average plate of food in this country cost 300 naira,

Even if you only eat twice , it will still cost 18k in a month,

And the average rent per month is 3k for a one room apartment ,

Not to add data cost , call costs, money for clothes etc,

To do a job that can't even feed you 3 times talk less of paying your bills is slavery,

It's high time the government look into this,

The National wage should be revised to at least 30k , and all businesses should be made to comply with it,

Millions are slaving in this country for peanuts daily it has got to stop

You expect us to pay them 50k? How much are graduates paid? Its the nature of there job. When you do better, your paid will increase. Its not wickedness cuz most times we feed them twice a day and also tip them every now and then.

Save this post,

When you start a business re-visit it.

Or better still, start a business and start paying everyone 30k from day 1.

If you can't afford it, do your job by yourself bro,

I won't employ someone, when I can't pay that person a decent wage

do better how?,

It's people like you, that will give your kid 20k a month as pocket money and pay your gateman 5k per month,

Graduate or illiterate, Anyone working deserves a decent pay,

Many small businesses don't grow in this country, because the owners treat their workers poorly,

Make your workers feel as if the have a stake in your business, and it will grow

For anyone who insist they cant sell, they should be satisfied with what they get!

People prefer to spend 240Hours a month, than to just pick something and sell, and increase their income. It makes me sick..even when you tell them, they are just comfortable!

A question for you:

Do these employees have the free will to leave a job if they choose to?

What would you say about those that saw a 7k job advert and happily applied for it?

You should direct your grief at those that opted to take the jobs

I can't believe a youth will go against the OP ,it is very disappointing the way many business owners treat their workers ,I know of a popular fast food in Lagos and a single outlet in ogun state Nigeria whom the owner hails from Ijebu, the owner is so heartless that she pays the workers from on the 10th of the following month to 26th that is when the last batch will collect their hard earn stipend salary, but the people working directly with the child are collecting salary earlier than others and I also know a small bukka that is owned by a young woman and she pays salary latest on the 28-30th of that particular month.
tell me , if the big woman business crumble will you say her staff are wicked?
Many of these cheaters don't even pay taxes that they deduct from their staff stipend salary and any time the staff see an opportunity to steal their money they will be broadcasting.
you can't be telling your salary you are mot making sales when they have access to your cost of production ,over heads and total sales ,they will definitely declare your profit for before you know it.
Many business owners are selfish and cheaters.

What more can I say?

Another thing is the issue of Lording over their employee because most of these guys are Secondary school leavers... These employers would not only pay peanuts but transfer aggression to their employees and belittle them at the slightest provocation because at the end there's nothing the employee can do.

"It's high time the government look into this"?

Really!

Look, no one forced the lady to take the job. And
if she doesn't like the pay, no one stops her from
leaving.

What you call "poor pay" could be a life-saver for
someone else.
