ABOUT one hundred herdsmen are to be sponsored to Turkey for training on modern rearing techniques and artificial insemination by the Kano State government.
This was disclosed by the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, at the weekend during an event marking his 100 days in office.

He added that the state government decided to assist the cattle farmers to teach them modern method of rearing to boost their economic activities.

Ganduje emphasised that his administration would do everything possible to strengthen the potentials of the cattle rearers as a way to reduce the incessant clashes between them and farmers over grazing issues.

“We selected some 100 children of our pastoralists to take part in this new programme. The scheme will be a continuous one,” he disclosed.

The governor further revealed that the state government has plans to ban farming and developing buildings in some of the forests in the state. Indicating that there was a critical need to protect forests from encroachment.

Listing some of his achievements, Ganduje said under an empowerment scheme, some youth were sent to Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN) to be trained as motor mechanics, others were sponsored on entrepreneurial training and 250 were trained on Information Communication Technology. 150 youth were sent to Panda Agricultural Centre to learn agricultural schemes, among others.

On ensuring accountability and good governance, he revealed that preparation was on to send a Bill on Due Process Bureau to the state House of Assembly for consideration to be enacted into a law, for proper administration of the state affairs.

“This will ensure accountability and proper governance in the state. I want to use this opportunity to also remind our state functionaries that we will not spare anybody found wanting for corruption, “ Ganduje stated.

Meanwhile, the state Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission received 200 complaints from aggrieved members of the public within 100 days of Governor Ganduje’s administration.

The Executive Chairman of the Commission, Alhaji Muhuyi Magaji, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on the achievements of the Commission in Kano on Monday.

He said out of the number, 23 cases were resolved while 33 were referred to agencies and that more than 150 were still pending.

Magaji said that the complaints were mainly on marital, rights protection and promotion issues as well as anti-corruption matters.

The chairman attributed the increase in the number of cases to the confidence people had in the new leadership of the commission.

‘’The commission recorded 500 percent increase in the number of complaints, compared with previous years. This, I believe is due to the confidence members of the public have in the new leadership of the commission.”

He assured that the commission would continue to discharge its duties without fear in accordance with the rules and regulations.

‘’The essence of establishing the commission in the state is to complement what the Federal Government is doing with regards to fighting corruption in the country.”

Magaji also disclosed that the commission was currently investigating the state’s road traffic agency and some Shari’a courts over alleged diversion of revenue by some officials.

He assured that the outcome of the investigations would be made public.
