Heheh. You said something about writing in pidgin English. I remember one of the members of the NPC WhatsApp group did that once, and it was really awesome, but their name has since eluded me. I think it was firestar or Oahray. Since then, I had been thinking of doing one myself, but I think I need more guts. grin

Besides, I thought that the genre of a poem written in that language should be humor, and humorous pieces are pieces I really suck at writing.

PS: There was a class on the poetry group where Firestar was teaching us about haikus, and she did some pidgin. I remember doing some few 'wack' ones myself too. grin

Might I woo thee. . .

Gangsta way, like I'm blowing a tech
bit.ch, I'm so in regret
that I once showed ye respect
treated you like a high-class queen when you're a gnome in the sense
love gone now . . .all I hold is contempt!
my dick stands better than the two growths in your chest
ask around, cu.nt...the Krone is the best!
you'd think I'm a babalawo the way them hos give me heads!
in the hood, I flex a chick like I flex blings
and treat her like a sex thing
drop her like her ex did and jump on the next chick

Sorry...trying out something. Can't drop this poo on FFR.

LOL! Na you suppose teach me poetry na. I really don't understand the rules but I think I can catch up. Been studying Alexpissu lately. That one is a born poet. Another unknown poet in the rap section is Fuckyouhard aka Jason21, but he doesn't come online regularly.

JayZ once said something. He said that rap is a mix of rhythm and poetry, and yes I agree with him. Good rappers like you have all it takes to be good poets. Infact, I saw what you wrote in the Greek gods cypher, and removing the ellipses and bar boundary signifiers, would make it a very good piece of poetry, sir. smiley

See whining! grin Truth is, I don't really know the rudiments of poetry; the subject itself is complex and a bit confusing too. I've read a dozen or more of Shakespeare's novels. He used rhymes and stanzas most of the time. But here I see people telling me that rhyming doesn't matter in poetry. I guess you Literature students should know better.
I'll join the site at my leisure. Thanks, bro.

hahaha! most rappers fail to understand that RAP is an expression . You have to key in to every aspects of it . Well, I am more fascinated to poet and storytelling rappers because they input knowledge, creativity and life in their raps. Many rappers can't get in line doing poetry ,they feel rapping is all about battle rhymes....If a poetic rapper is dissing you ,it will take you moments to figure out.

You can't go wrong listening to the likes of Immortal Technique, Killa Priest, Lupe Fiasco ,Nas , Kendrick Lamar ( I admire the technicality in his raps ) ,Eminem , Common e.t.c

Krone, don't make me laugh(we dey follow your footstep) ....I totally agree with llaykorn about his comment on you though.

When the mythical siren sings

Sirens lure sailors to their watery doom. Walking the plank brings up the imagery of punishment.

Immortal Technique is a favorite to me too. I was trying to explain to my kid brother today what real rap meant and I just had to use Immortal Technique's 'Dance With The Devil' lyrics as an example. Well, he's a big fan of Olamide and Lil' Kesh. cheesy

I'll try working on one Pidgin poem as soon as possible but I don't know if posting here might be dubbed breaking a rule? I won't mind if Obinnau can give us a helping hand.

Well, I haven't really paid much attention to JigsawKillah but going by his recent "flips" , he come across to me as a rapper who is fearless . Everybody, wants a pound of flesh of him ,that alone goes to show that the young lad is making a SPELL .

llaykorn, I totally agree with you ...Maybe, your younger bro has been misled by the media.Well, Lupe Fiasco comes to me as rapper that gives me headache sometimes trying to understand .What is your take on Nas and Lupe Fiasco ?

Poetry? Complex and confusing? Setting up a punchline is 1000 times more complex. sad

Lol, about rhyming. It's true that Shakespeare rhymed in his poems, but poems that don't rhyme will be called poems too. Most poems rhyme, really, but a lot don't rhyme too.

This choice of rhyming or not that poets possess goes a long way in making us know that the essence of poetry lies way deeper than the 'foot/boot' or the 'ball/call' at the end of lines. It is an art that will succeed in passing a message and still be enjoyable even without rhymes. If your bars can still pass a message, make a meaning, and still be enjoyed even when your rhymes are removed, then, is some way you're doing poetry. smiley
