For neglecting the agricultural sector, Nigeria’s profile in the importation of agricultural sector has increased over N630 billion.

This revelation was made by the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele in Lagos at a workshop organised by CBN and the Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) on Innovative Agricultural Products, noted that the large import of food products include wheat, rice, flour, fish, tomato paste, textile and sugar.

He said that the sector provides 70 per cent of existing employment in the country, with 42 per cent contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), but lamented the high level importation of food products.

Emefiele also hinted that all is set for the reactivation of the agriculture sector’s insurance scheme-the Nigeria Incentive-based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL), in a move to lure more farmers, as well as help reduce risks associated with the sector’s financing.

This disclosure is shameful and disgusting to hearing that Nigeria with large and fertile land is importing food! Well all thanks to indolence and lazy leaders that depend on petro-dollar thereby jettisioning the simple primary factor of industrialisation which the production of agricultural product for both food security and raw materials for industries.

The great support any policy maker could do to this embarrassing but not unovercoming task is to provide a genieu and honest assistance to the real farmers not paper pen farmers to be able to produce in large quantity

Its very embarrassing in a country where over 10million hectares of arable land left uncultivated, over 30 million able youths are roaming the street looking for job, abundantly cheap labour all over.
Sometimes i wonder, are we really cursed? Much wealth and prosperity around us,yet still wallowing in poverty.

it's not that the 30 million youth that have no jobs in the country their status in this manner it's due to our thinking faculty. i don't blame them because what's government doing in creating jobs for the youth in agric sector, Is the government empowering the youth farmers niiii. no my people in the house. and my advice here to my fellow youth out there start from something even if it's little thing start from small and when the harvest came it will be big pls and pls i notice a lot of people this days mostly youth love procrastination. if u have a plan in ur mind draw it out and make move on it not looking the risky part life too is risky . ask questions when things are strange here like me av been on nairaland forum for 5 years now and av know alot of things in agriculture and more info in life pls and pls don't limit yourself in doing things big in life ride on and move. by the special grace of God i now av 3 acres of land to start with in agriculture majorly in plantain farming and fish farming av draw the architectural design of the place and make a move that's while i do ask questions and thanks to our successful farmers here they give me hope that i can do it especially bro roland of catfish and bro yusuff of plantain farming thread. if it's leasing a acres of land while u are serving if u are a corper go ahead and lease. pls don't deprive urself from things u ought to know thks to my consultant here they av been of help for me in questions i ask all they av been answer me all through. pls don't give think big, God bless Nigeria.
