I Think The Govt Should Legalise This Act ! by akani(m): 1:06pm On Oct 07, 2006
This arise as a fact that the rate at which the police demanding for the sum of 20 naira at every bustops from commercial vehicle drivers is so alarming.Series attempt being made by the govt to arrest this situation prove abortive, any attempt being made by this driver in evading the charges will cost- them 'unlawfully indiction'.moreover the passengers suffers indirectly for this.

In view of this,Im suggesting if the govt should legalised this act so that commercial vehicle drivers will be fully aware the payment to avoid unlawfully indiction if at all they cant stop it!

people in the house whats are your suggestions/views on this?

they should introduce road tax instead, so citizens can pay in advance instead of being stopped here and there by policemen, the revenue should be going directly to the road/infrastructure agencies not the police who are not accountable for it.

the funny thing is even okiro will deny it if you tell him police collect money from motorist  undecided sometimes you wonder if these police ogas are living in the same country

wat r the chances of that actucally happening ? even though its a nice idea.
and i bet if the government does that done of the money will get to the police officers
and even if some of the money does get to police , they will still want to collect more money anyways undecided

What baffles me is the audacity of the policemen at these illegal road checks. Often times, this causes traffic hold-ups on major roads that are plied by highly placed government officials. They are never deterred by this, they collect this money in public glare daring the rest of us to do our worst. All successive Inspectors General of police have continued to declare this as illegal but all these declarations have proved to be mere rhetorics. I guess the Police Force as a whole needs to be reformed.

Sorry i dont understand what u mean by road tax. I am assuming its similar to what is obtainable in the UK. If that be the case, then we are already paying thst in Nigeria in the form of vehicle licensing.

However I do not believe that any of this will solve this problem of police turning beggars on the roads. It still boils down to accountability.
The officers should be well paid and given human conditions of service. Secondly, check points should be stopped as they do us no good as it is now. they only cause traffic jams, and in some cases make motorists easier prey for robbers.

maybe it's about time those TV stations in Nigeria start making documentary of police/officials collecting bribe in broad daylight and hopefully shove it in the I.g's face so he wont be able to deny it any more. at least it would be better than an international T.V station showing it, we don't take criticism very well esp from outsiders wink
