When Jewel Shuping had a psychologist pour drain cleaner in her eyes to blind her, the reason she gave was precisely the same justification given by transgender people who have their genitals surgically removed.

Shuping, a sufferer of Body Integrity Disorder, remembers that she fantasized about being blind from the age of 6, acquired a white cane in her teens and had learned Braile by the time she was 20.

In 2006, Shuping finally found someone to help her realize her dream, which is when the psychologist poured drain cleaner in her eyes.
