Thanks. Let's all support the Golden eaglets to a 5th crown.

We would also be the first country to win it back to back if successful. We should have done this in 2009 when we hosted but lost the final to Switzerland.

of course. Lets also hope to maintain the "team with the highest number of goals in the tornament" records. And also look forward to producing well talented prodigious football lads, that will not forgo the transitional development of their potential talents at the expense of 'signing for prestigious clubs' that will only end up detracting their prowess.

Startimes has promised to show the Live Matches, so if you can't afford the 'exorbitant cost' of Dstv subscription, then I opine that Startimes will be a very dependable alternative!

All you need is to buy it and watch the matches on NTASports24, A free sports channel that requires no monetary subscription.

FIFA U-17 WORLD CUP CHILE 2015: NIGERIA PROFILE

The past
The only word to describe Nigeria's past in the FIFA U-17 World Cup is glorious. No other country has won the tournament as often as the Golden Eaglets (four times) and only Brazil can match their seven semi-final appearances.

Remarkably, the team has made it through to the decider every time they advanced to the last four. The west Africans won the inaugural competition in China PR in 1985 and added titles in 1993, 2007 and last time out. They lost the 1987, 2001 and 2009 finals. The only time they qualified for the global event but failed to progress out of the group stage was in 2003, when they were denied a place in the last eight by the drawing of lots after finishing equal on points, goals and goal difference with Costa Rica.

The present
As overwhelming pre-tournament favourites the Golden Eaglets had an easy passage into the last four at the African championships, thereby booking their place in Chile 2015. Victories over hosts Niger (2-0) and Zambia (3-1) and a 1-1 draw against Guinea saw them top the group. However, in the semi-finals, the west Africans were stunned by an impressive South African team, who grabbed a first-half goal and then held on to their win. And though Nigeria lost the play-off for third place against Guinea 3-1, coach Emmanuel Amuneke said they had achieved their objective and would expect to be at their best in the world finals.

The future
Surprisingly, the Golden Eaglets have been more successful on the global stage than in Africa. It is not something that surprises Amuneke, who says that the conditions at the World Cup are more suitable to his side but has naturally been focused on hsi young team. ”For us to be champions of the world, we have to prepare very well. We have been trying to correct some of the mistakes and lapses we noticed in Niger.”

Facts and Figures

The U-17 World Cup in numbers

The world’s top young talents are descending on Chile for the 16th edition of the FIFA U-17 World Cup, with dozens of goals, hundreds of dribbles and committed tackles, thousands of spectators and millions of fans all playing their part in the action.
As the countdown continues to the first games in South America, FIFA.com grabs our abacus to look over a few of the standout statistics and fascinating figures from previous editions, as well as the event to come.

172goals were scored in the previous tournament, UAE 2013, a record high for the U-17 World Cup. That record was achieved in 52 games, meaning an average of 3.31 goals per game, bettered only by Japan 1993 (3.34), Peru 2005 (3.47) as well as the record goals per game scored at Egypt 1997 and Finland 2003 (3.66).

1708goals have been scored in the history of the tournament, with Chidera Ezeh of Nigeria notching the 1700th strike in the UAE 2013 semi-final, 10,324 days after Brazilian Bismarck scored the very first goal of China PR 1985.
2.34points per game (three points for a win, one for a draw) is the record-high that holders Nigeria can boast throughout the history of the U-17 World Cup. Their 40 wins, 11 draws and five defeats means they top the all-time ‘league table’ for the tournament with Ghana (2.12 points per game) and Brazil (2.04 points per game) in second and third behind them.

2000is the year in which Mali’s Mamady Diarra, who plays for Yeelen in his home country, was born, making him the first player to be named in a squad for a men’s World Cup tournament (U-17, U-20 or senior), who was born after the turn of the millennium.

55centimetres is the difference in height between the shortest and tallest player at Chile 2015. Guinea midfielder Karim Conte stands 140cm tall, with New Zealand defender Hunter Ashworth towering above him at 195cm. Only 12 players at last year’s senior World Cup stood taller than the Kiwi.

16years, 11 months and ten days will be the average age of the Nigeria squad when the tournament kicks off on Saturday 17 October, the youngest at Chile 2015. Emanuel Amuneke will be hoping his young charges continue the good progress made by Manu Garba’s champions from 2013, with 12 out of the 21 in their UAE 2013 squad featuring at the FIFA U-20 World Cup earlier this year in New Zealand.

6games without scoring, the longest drought in the competition’s history, is the unwanted run that New Zealand will be hoping to end in Chile. The Kiwis went goalless in the UAE last time out, with their last strike on the global U-17 stage coming 543 minutes of play ago against Uzbekistan in the Mexico 2011 group stages.

1team, South Africa, will be making their debut at a U-17 World Cup in Chile. Syria and Belgium return for their second appearance after both debuting at Korea Republic 2007, while USA and Brazil make a record-continuing 15th appearance at the global U-17 finals.

1298km, as the crow flies, is the distance between Estadio La Portada in La Serena and Estadio Chinquihue in Puerto Montt the northernmost and southernmost venues at Chile 2015. Eight venues will be used for the first time at U-17 level since the 2009 finals in Nigeria, and two of the stadiums (Estadio Nacional in Santiago and Vina Del Mar’s Estadio Sausalito) that will host games in Chile were also venues for the 1962 FIFA World Cup™.

11players have gone on to win the World Cup after featuring at the U-17 edition, with Toni Kroos (who appeared at Korea Republic 2007) and Mario Gotze (Nigeria 2009) joining the list after their victory in Brazil last year.
The nine other world champions are Frenchman Emmanuel Petit, Brazil’s Ronaldinho, Italy’s Gianluigi Buffon, Alessandro Del Piero and Francesco Totti and Spain’s Iker Casillas, Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta and Xavi. Will any of Chile 2015’s stars lift the famous trophy in years to come?

Last 16 Determined On Day Of Drama

The group stage of the FIFA U-17 World Cup Chile 2015 drew to a close on Sunday, with the final matches in Groups E and F determining the line-up of the Round of 16. New Zealand, Australia, Russia, Costa Rica and Korea DPR all qualified for the knockout stages, on a day full of drama and turnarounds.

France consolidated their position at the top of Group F by making light work of Syria, scoring twice in each half and eliminating the Asian side.

In the other match in that section, New Zealand snatched second place from Paraguay in stirring fashion, grabbing a well-worked goal in stoppage time for a hard-fought 2-1 victory. The South Americans finished third, and were forced to wait for the results in the later matches to see if they had done enough to advance.

Unfortunately for them, Korea DPR took a leaf out of the Kiwis’ book, notching a winner in injury time to beat Costa Rica 2-1, a result that not only qualified both teams but that sent the Paraguayans home. Elsewhere in Group D, Russia put paid to South Africa’s hopes with an early penalty and a stunning last-minute free-kick.

Finally, the New Zealand result had the additional knock-on effect of eliminating England (Group B) and, combined with Syria's defeat, helped send Australia (Group C) through to the last 16.

Results
Paraguay 1-2 New Zealand (Group F)
France 4-0 Syria (Group F)
Costa Rica 1-2 Korea DPR (Group E)
Russia 2-0 South Africa (Group E)

Goal of the day
Paraguay 1-2 New Zealand, Lucas Imrie (90+1)
As this match entered into time added-on in Puerto Montt, ten-man Paraguay just needed the result to hold in order to book a place in the next round. New Zealand forward Lucas Imrie had other ideas, however, latching on to a superb chipped pass from Sarpreet Singh to bring to an end eight matches without a win at this level and qualify the OFC representatives for the knockout phase for the third time in their history.

Memorable moments
Janvier juggernaut: Handed a starting berth for the first time, France midfielder Nicolas Janvier did not exactly let the occasion get to him against Syria. In fact, he was the star of the show, getting on the scoresheet twice and turning provider for the two other goals. Asked about the player at the post-match press conference by FIFA.com, France coach Jean-Claude Guintini refused to get too carried away, stating, “He had a good match. In the games to come, he’ll be an option we can use, just like any other player.”

Antipodean allies: The England squad, watching from their hotel in Coquimbo, were hoping for various results in Groups E and F to go their way so that they could remain in Chile for a few days more. However, New Zealand’s last-gasp triumph over Paraguay shattered those dreams. At the same time, Australia’s players, keeping an eye on the scores from their hotel in Chillan, exploded with joy at the knowledge that the Young All Whites had played their part.

Cutting inside: After having celebrated their pivotal victory in Puerto Montt, the young New Zealanders returned to their dressing room and demanded the presence of one of the members of their backroom staff, who promptly entered to uproarious laughter, sitting down and holding up a pair of scissors to the group with a happy yet resigned look on his face. The players then proceeded to cut their older compatriot’s flowing locks, which had been allowed to grow for 15 years but which had also been used as collateral in a bet involving the Kiwis’ potential qualification for the Round of 16.

The stat
14 – The number of goals scored by France in the group phase, a total that represents a new record for a European team at the U-17 World Cup, beating the previous benchmark of 11 set by Germany in 2007 and 2011. The all-comers record remains the property of Brazil, who scored 15 times in three matches in 2013.

The words
"I’d like to thank the Chilean people and the residents of Puerto Montt and Concepcion for their support. During our stay, we were made to feel like friends rather than strangers,” Mohamed Alattar, Syria coach.
