You sure you are Nigerian? So, speaking the truth is hate mongering. Right. Got it. This is another bane of Nigerians; living in denial. Admit that the foundations the country was built on was and is flawed, change the way you'all think, and finally chart a realistic course for change in the future. Living in denial is counter productive. All it does is hold you back. Reminiscing for a time that never existed is sad to say the least. I somehow feel sorry for you. Damn, what a pity.

Hear we go again. Please go back and re-read your initial post before coming back here to rant. You were the one pouring scorn on Nigeria because of your claims about the lack of a pension scheme, lack of jobs or owning a car after graduation. And my response to you, was that it was not always like that and the state of affairs in the sixties and seventies, were far better than what it is today. undecided So contrary to your statement, nobody is living in denial undecided.

Am a full-blooded Nigerian and I carry my green passport with pride. And I will be the first to admit that a lot of things in Nigeria need improvement. But I will not destroy my country or talk trash about it, in order to feel good with myself the way you have been doing. Neither will I drag its name in the mud, because of some perceived shortcomings. sad

Does speaking the truth, mean having to denigrate your country?? In one of your earlier posts, you claimed: " The rot in the country today has been going on since independence." Later you said: " i can tell you for a fact, Nigeria has always been crap." You are the one with a skewed mentality here, and it is so sad to see that the myopia through which you view your own country, has clouded your sense of judgement. I am yet to meet an American outside the US, talking trash about their country. They often refer to it as 'God's own country', making you believe it is the greatest nation on earth, despite all the problems they have over there. Tell me, are they living in denial as well?

Rubbish!!! People, including Nigerians always look back and think things were better. 1970's was the WORST time for Nigeria. China, Dubai, Malaysia were busy developing booming private sector economic growth. Even Uk under Thatcher from the same 1979, grew out of her economic dolrums of the government economic policies of the 1970's to a booming private sector economy Including many succesful privatisation.

1979 Nigeria had less than 12 universities!!!
Most youth could NOT go to university.
1979 Most graduat es were employed as under-employed civil servants on level 08. (unless you lived in Lagos) - pen-pushers in ministry of Bleep
1979 MOST towns and villages were NOT on the National Grid.
1979 we didn't need Visa to tavel to most countries, BUT how many Nigerians could take advantage of this?
1979, only one teacher in my junior sister primary school could afford a volkswagen beetle.

1979 government ran and owned many busineses which rather than make profit and pay tax, instead survived on government subventions; Federal Palace Hotel, Nigeria Airways, NICON, NITEL, Nigeria Shipping Line, Daily Times and thousands of other state and federal government parastals - waste of money!!!

These wasteful policies encouraged corruption and discouraged private sector development.
This period led to our over-dependence on oil.

I AM NOT SAYING NIGEERIA IS BETTER NOW, BUT ASK THE VILLAGE FARMER IN 1979 WHETHER LIFE IS GOOD, YOU WILL GET THE SAME AS 2015- LIFE IS TOUGH!!!

You are obviously confused and lost.

How can you say that life then in Nigeria is the same now?

How old are you by the way?

The only reason i asked if you were a Nigerian is because you seem not to know that the country you live in has been a cesspool since inception. If you were a true Nigerian you would have known that. There is a difference between realizing what is and hoping for what can be. If you don't have the true grasp of what is then how do you move on. You need to wake up to reality.

Lol.. .if you consider a person talking about a retirement fund "flaunting", then i really pity you. Retirement is a normal topic as normal as breathing. Who lives today without a retirement plan? I sometimes forget who i'm talking to. I forget i'm talking to people who think driving a car is a big deal, having a retirement plan is "flaunting", Owning or paying mortgage is crazy or impossible and getting a job as soon as you graduate a miracle. To me, it's not "showing off", it's "normal". There are no big boys here because everyone has the same thing. I spent a better part of my life in Nigeria and i realized that the bane of Nigeria is not corruption but it's mentality. It's just too phucked up for any change to happen as evidenced from the above post.
Excellent words!

A bad system was adopted in 1966 when the regions were unified to a unitary system and that has been our undoing. Our sweet crude back then that could easily be refined is no longer an advantage. We abandoned all our cash and food crops and started sulking Niger Delta oil dry all in the name of a fraudulent one Nigeria and here we are wallowing in iniquity. There is no future for Nigeria unless we restructure or split undecided

I am not in support of splitting the country. Eradicating corruption and reviving the agricultural economy will go a long way to boost the economy. Our over-dependence on oil is crippling the economy.

Do you earn money for every vile epithet you spew out about your country? So to you, Nigeria is a 'cesspool??' And no one else is allowed to have a different opinion, without you questioning their Nigerian identity? Okay,o! Your clueless mindset has just entered the next level. undecided

I live in Nigeria unlike you, and I can see what took place in the past, what is currently happening and the plans in the pipeline for the future. On the contrary, you are the one with a thoroughly negative mindset who does not have any grasp about what is currently going on, in different sectors of the country.

Like I stated earlier, Nigeria has its shortcomings but I will not denigrate my country in order to feel good like you are busy doing. If you dislike my optimism, hug the nearest transformer. How old did you say you were, by the way??

In what ways is Nigeria's economy far better than that of Ghana? Does your govt still provide automatic employment to doctors+accomodation and car? Have you visited Ghana recently?

Around 2005, I remember going with my friends from Ghana to the Bureau de change here in Nigeria to change some Cedis to NGN. As at then, 1000 Cedis exchanged for only NGN60. Today the economy of Ghana has improved a bit. At Ghana, electricity is very stable than in Nigeria. And electricity is one of the major components needed for businesses to thrive. I can go on and on...

I'll have to look for the transaction receipt, scan it and upload it here for you all doubting Thomas to see the exchange rate.

Guy, I schooled there for 4 years. My sis is still there after 6 years. My brother is also there 2 years now. I know what I'm talking about. My sister is working as a doctor in Ghana she just got her certificate. I just asked her to make sure. I dunno about before but right now there is no provision for cars for doctors. Also what you get after medical school is HOUSE JOB. Not employment. When your tenure is up on house job you are on your own. Ghana has also had power issues for a few years now. Granted their outages are much more organised than in Nigeria but on some months you might not have electricity for 12 hours at a time...

Did I forget to mention.. A few years back Ghana fell upon some huge oil reserves.. They are currently producing close to 500,000Barrels per day of oil.. Thats about a quarter of what Nigeria produces.. And for a population 8 times smaller than Nigeria.. The benefits of that oil boom should be felt twice as much by Ghanaians than anything government can do for Nigeria. Yet nothing has changed in Ghana.

GDP per capita for Nigeria is almost twice that of Ghana.. Forget what you see on the outside.. Ghana isn't as sweet as to you think..

I told you before that you have a myopic mindset, and with every comment that you utter... you keep proving me right. I forgot to add the word 'warped,' to that description. sad

My optimism is founded on nothing, but sheer reality. I have lived in the UK as well as a few other foreign countries, and I have also lived in Nigeria. Believe me when I tell you that Nigeria still has a number of good things, going for it. My neighbour uses the rent from the houses he built in Nigeria, to fund his lifestyle and living expenses in the US. I have heard several people saying it is easier to trade within Nigeria, than abroad and the return on investments are still far better here than in other European countries.

So all your vile epithets you keep recycling about Nigeria has not stopped those who are making a decent living within this country, from doing so. Only those who experienced a deprived childhood within their own country, seek means of escape from it, and never have anything decent to say about it when they finally leave the place. You seem to get a high from launching invectives and cusswords against your country. So here have the floor... and knock yourself out. undecided

Lol.. . . . .Nigeria is really awesome. i can see that all roads are looking good now. Quality healthcare also exist now. Corruption is down and almost non existent. Security is even better now. The cops show up 10 minutes after you call them and the criminals run away as soon as they see them. People also dont build their homes anymore as if they are prison. I also see that power generation is better; everyone has 24 hrs a day power supply. Even the gas situation is wonderful no more long queues at the pumps. Wow, the educational system has been overhauled and there actually quality facilities for a conducive learning experience in Nigeria. You know what? forgive me. I now see why you are optimistic. As for the value of New Ghana Cedis, it's no biggie. Ghana dropped three zeros from their currency about a decade ago. C10,000 became C10. Soludo wanted to do same in Nigeria but Yar'Adua opposed it. Ghanian economy didn't suddenly grow at astronomical rate.

Many of my Ghanian friends still calculate using the old cedis in hundreds of thousands.
you are wrong!

we actually dropped four (4) zeros.

but to me it doesn't count anymore.. what I know is, currently Ghana cedis is "heavier" than Nigeria naira any day any time tongue
The rest is my backcase...lol

Like i said. i don't make this shiit up. You all do.

There are 36 states in Nigeria. Osun state is only one of them? What is happening in the remaining states?? Are they all suffering from fuel scarcity too? Or didn't your crystal ball on NL show you the true situation? sad

And do you even know what led to the fuel scarcity in that part of Osogbo town? Kindly do your research. It was not caused by a lack of fuel within the country. It was attributed to "a subtle protest by petroleum marketers, who were anticipating a downward review of the pump price of fuel." No one interviewed the marketers to find out if that was the truth. So stop clutching at straws, abeg.

You mentioned inadequate security in your earlier post. Yes, there are a lot improvements that can be done in this area. But it has not prevented millions of people earning a decent living from doing so, in our country. Even America with all its high-tech approach to security issues still battles with crime on a daily basis, and it still suffers serious security lapses. Probably with the exception of Saudi Arabia (and I stand to be corrected), I do not know of any other country where security is 100% adequate.

Power has improved in many areas. The sector has been deregulated, and new independent power plants (IPP) are springing up. The expectation is that power supply would have doubled in the next few years. With the exception of South Africa and Egypt, there are very few African countries that have 24x7 power all through the year.

Mortgage schemes are now available but then it takes discipline and a steady source of income to acquire one. With or without a mortgage, several people are still building homes on a daily basis, subject to their earnings and access to land. Our great grand-parents and grand-parents despite their limited education and lack of access to mortgages, still managed to build their own homes in the 60s and 70s. Some even built more than one. So why should their descendants be limited by the lack of a mortgage scheme, if they can cut their coat according to their cloth? undecided

The educational system still has its flaws. But with more private schools and private universities already in existence and a whole lot more still coming up, standards are also rising. A lot of Nigerian graduates go abroad and still excel at the Masters' level and in other fields. I truly wonder why. If the educational system down here upon which their foundation was built was so appalling, shouldn't they be flunking in droves?? shocked

I guess, nothing anybody says would make any difference here. You are so determined to view Nigeria through jaundiced, myopic lenses and hate-filled vision, which is why you take great delight in launching vile epithets and invectives on the country.

Oya, have the floor ... and continue doing what you do best!

If the educational system down here upon which their foundation was built was so appalling, shouldn't they be flunking in droves?? shocked

I guess, nothing anybody says would make any difference here. You are determined to view Nigeria through jaundiced, myopic lenses and hate-filled vision, which is why you take great delight in launching vile epithets and invectives on the country.

Oya, have the floor ... and continue doing what you do best!

Anyone strange to Nigeria after seeing this post would be like "hmmmm, this country is really getting better" until they land at the airport. See how he keeps using words like "getting better" and "improving" so flippantly? Meanwhile what is "better" is all based on his perceptions and experiences in life. He doesn't know his "better" is crap. Lol.. . .

Yeah, it is 'crap' to you because of the following reasons:

1). You have a totally myopic, warped negative view of Nigeria; undecided

2). You had a deprived childhood in Nigeria, and so you had to escape from the shores of the country.

3). You are unable to earn a decent living in Nigeria despite all the issues here, which is why you vilify all those who do so and you dislike it when they do not share your warped sentiments.

4). You are gullible enough to swallow all the negativity you hear about your own country, instead of conducting your own research and coming to an objective conclusion. I guess that is why you believe that fuel scarcity in Osogbo, equals fuel scarcity in the whole of Nigeria.

Continue to entertain us with your clueless remarks! sad

And what is your fvcking business about Ghana? Don't you fools have enough problems in that sh1thole country to talk about? Why should it always be about Ghana? Or is this not supposed to be be a nigerian site? No matter how bad Ghana is, it is one billion times better than that smelly shitty armpit country you call nigeria? Ghana this, Ghana that and yet your mudder bleeping citizens are scrambling for Ghanaian passports and citizenship? Do you know the number of your gullible clueless fellow nigerians living in Ghana today?Do you know the number of phone calls I get daily from desperate nigerians wishing to relocate to Ghana? Such stvpidity!
Kingbilo:

You went to school and learnt some sort of history. I hope. There has been one coup or another from 1966 to 1998 and you say the country was awesome. Ok.

Yeah, I went to school.... better schools than the ones you went to, I hope. undecided Now where in my posts did the word 'awesome', ever come up? Please point it out, in chapter and verse. You have now started clutching at another straw ...."military coups!" This is what those brainwashed foreigners do, when they want to go on a hypothetical journey to launch invectives against Naija! cheesy shocked grin

Now, I realise you are a total stranger to Nigeria, yet you keep running your mouth with all kinds of negativity as if you have visited every nook and cranny of the country. What a pity! undecided
