Improvements That Oliseh Needs To Make In The Super Eagles. by rapmike(m): 1:08pm On Oct 12, 2015
Now that Oliseh has won and enjoyed his first major scalp as an Eagles coach (forget the lacklustre display, Cameroun is still a rival),coupled with the reduced tension caused by Enyeama's retirement and the defeat by Congo, he needs to settle down and assess a few areas that needs improvement. Some of these areas include:

1. A faulty defence line: despite our victory, I was still concerned that our defence and goalie were not tested well enough. Though that should be a good sign, but considering that Cameroun looked to suffer a bit from poor positioning in the first half, its safer to say that the opponents were not as sharp as expected in attack, yet both Echejile and his compatriot on the right side of the defence were beaten occasionally when Cameroun had the chance. Coupled with the shaky composure of Ambrose before his goal (where he almost sold us out), then its not yet Uhuru for our defence. One positive though was the performance of Leon Balogun; his performance at the heart of the defence was courageous, putting the best performance I have seen of him in recent times. Now Oliseh needs to work on Ambrose and find other options on the flanks.
2. A blunt attack: we may have scored three goals, which is very good but yet we could have scored so much more with a sharper attack. Probably if given more time the attack will be more potent but a strikeforce that has just scored two goals in three matches which involved the likes of Tanzania, Niger and Congo won't give me goose bumps. Moreover, Cameroun were really not tight in defence, so three goals should be a given. However, its an improvement and we hope the attack continues to improve under Oliseh.
3. Emenike: Yes, the man who made us to think of Yekini during the 2013 AFCON. Or what's left of him. Since the World Cup, he has been on a perpetual decline, notably worsened in his time with Fenerbache. Despite moving to the Arab world with Al-Ain, Emenike has failed to recover that form that made us root for him in that AFCON. Now he is more of a distraction and rough thug, creating and fighting physical battles with the opposition centre backs and linking up play. While this is certainly not bad, its certainly not his role as a striker and that has left us blunt in attack anytime he spearheads it. It is left to the coaching crew and himself to find that form, as any injury to Ighalo may leave us completely blunt in attack.

All in all, we (the fans) have to be patient. Even the World Cup Champions in Germany struggled against 'minnows' last night and Spain have also had their struggles, so its not all rosy out there. Here is wishing the eternity of the Super Eagles success, although only time will tell if such wish will come through.

As far as the defence goes, Musa Mohammed and Wilfred Ndidi can take the RB and CD positions respectively. The attack, we'll need Victor Moses back to partner Simon Moses with Ighalo taking Emenike's position. Will be nice to have Iheanacho between Mikel and Onazi as an AM in a 4-3-3 formation. He should offer a striking option outside the forward 3

Am in for these changes but the question will be if they can handle the pressure, especially if their debuts at this level did not go well?

are they kids? We're talking boys who have won A WC, there can't be any more pressure than that. If you keep waiting for them, they'll never be ready. Martial is 19 and playing for France, a bigger team with more talent than this Nigerian team, so what are we talking of here?

Well, I know what am saying here. Nigerians are not a patient bunch besides the fact that it works for Martial does not mean it will work for others.

That said, we can't say for certain until we try them.

What do you think about the goalie position? Should Alampasu be the second choice behind Ikeme or should an older hand step in (give or take that Enyeama is gone for good/bad)? Then what do you think about the influx of dual citizens playing for Nigeria ( Ikeme, Balogun and Iwobi)?
Re: Improvements That Oliseh Needs To Make In The Super Eagles. by ahamonyeka(m): 4:38pm On Oct 12, 2015
Our defeat against congo is as result of the team not in a good state of mind over the row between oliseh and enyeama coupled with the pitch that was not standard enough.

They played a very good game that sweetest me and I gave kudos to coach sunday oliseh but he need to work on the defence especially. echiejine has been poor right from time he's not a good left back while emenike need to be dropped completely he lack experience as an attacker.I still don't see what is wrong with likes of obafemi martins and Ike uche let's forget that they are old,if they are old what will we call pirlo, terry and co.osaze still need to be invited to that team.

enyeama is done in national team and righty so imo....Ikeme should be the keeper going forward with maybe alamposu as u suggested his deputy or even get a goalie frm local league... we have missed two nations cup in three years and enyeam has been the goalie all this years anyways so i see no reason why we cant cope without him..we need changes to freshen things up...we need to look forward not backwards.
Upfont musa is nigeraia best player so he should start, ighalo and moses complete the frontline for me..

It depends on the coach prerogative, but for a coach who publicly preaches the gospel of young players won't bringing these guys mentioned be a bit too much for him? Besides they may have issues following Musa. Let's find younger strikers. Gbolahan Salami is not a terrible alternative for now and am sure we have more all over the world.

Easy na. I said it was in his hands, never said anything was wrong with their abilities ( though am skeptical of Ik Uche and I think Osaze is still injured).

Usman Mohammed...Plays holding midfield role for Taraba United . You saw his performance against Niger...
Not forgetting regulars like Gbolahun Salami and Oghenekaro Etebor both Warri Wolves players..
Well you have a chance to see them first hand against burkinaFaso in the CHAN qualifiers later this weekend.

Obviously, Oliseh needs to source for better and reliable defenders(especially on left side and right side) natural playmakers, mobile defensive mildfielders and potent goal poachers to replace the incompetent players. He needs to source these players based on ability, talent, current form and from best leagues( or future potentials), and not selecting players based on favourism or nepotism, which we experienced during the former coach regime.

Are you telling me that we don't have wing back playing in to 15 leagues in the world?

Why do you call some players and ignore some players?

Are they more Nigerian than others?

Ok, these are the top 15 leagues in the world. i will list Nigerian players you don't know that are good enough to play for nation team

England: Attackers :Ameobi Sammy of Newcastel, Mildfielders: Seyi Ojo(liverpool) and Akpom (Arsenal), Defender: Odubajo is a right back player playing for Hull city football club. He is a very good utitlity player.
he can play anywhere across the back line and also as a mildfielder.

2, Germany: Anthony Ujah of Werden bremen

3, Portugal: Mildfielder: Anderson esiti Estroril

4, Netherland: Attacters: Dauda and Solanke( Vitesse), Ogbeche( Camboor) Attacking Mildfielder: Olaitan Micheal(Twente).

5, Belgium: Winger/attacker: Imoh Eziekel(Anderlecht), Mildfielder: Micheal Agu.

6, Ukriane: Mildfieder: Sheriffe Isa, Defender: Nurudeen Orelesi( left back winger)

7, Turkey: Mildfielders: Raheem Lawal and John Chibuike, Defender: Gbenga Arokoyo

8, Greece: Attacking mildfielder: Abdul Ajagun(Panathiniakos), Defender: Daniel Adejo(Kalloni) is a right back winger and center defender.

I dnt agree with Musa Mohammed and Ndidi taking RB and CB. This is d Super Eagles.

Leone Balogun is a RB, Efe Ambrose is a natural CB. So Ambrose partners with Omeruo as centre backs. Musa Mohamed and Wilfred Ndidi can deputise from d bench for now. Let them go to d Olympics first we can then assess them and know if they are fully ready for senior team action as defenders. Experience counts alot in d defence.

I doubt victor moses will ever be invited to the national team again especially with the way the other moses [simon moses] is playing, Oliseh does not forgive folks easily, he won't take victor moses snub lightly just like the way he handled enyeama's snub of the tanzanian game where oliseh felt ikeme is now a better option. Let's just leave Oliseh with his choices and judge him later. Am not even sure Olishe is convinced with Ighalo.

Well Leon has been playing as right back in d Bundesliga for years. He has been playing as right back ever since his debute in d Super Eagles. He May jst also know how to play centre back not dat he is better as a Centre Back. The absence of Omeruo and Obaobona was reponsible for him playing centre back. We need him more at right back while Oliseh chose a centre back combination between Ambrose, Obaobona, Troost-Ekong and Omeruo. I would personally prefare d Ambrose-Omeruo CB combination. While Troost-Ekong and Obaobona can deputise for d duo nt also forgetting Ndidi hu I still feel needs more playing time at club level and mayb d Olympic tourney to b able to fight for a centre back position. Or mayb Oliseh wants to convert him to a Defensive Midfielder jst like against Cameroun.

Leon has played as a center defender, left back and right back on many ocassion for his german clubs. It was resently Mainz played him mostly on the right back.

Daniel Adejo is the best option on the right back. he can also play as center defender. He gained experience from the Italian serie b league.

Gbenge Arokoyo is also a good center defender. he has more playing time than some these our players.

Odubanjo is a utility player. He is a conventional right back winger and he can also play anywhere across the back line. This boy got talent. He can even play as a mildfielder.

I think these player should be considered first before those aftermentioned players
Re: Improvements That Oliseh Needs To Make In The Super Eagles. by zoboizee: 5:41pm On Oct 13, 2015
Playing Ambrose as a right back or centre back is very dangerous due to his inconsistencies. He is a high risk player. Oboabona played mostly as a right back at sunshine stars before moving to turkey. And did well as a right back. He his good with crosses and freekicks. Wonder why he is not tried there. Then we can have Omeruo and balogun as centre backs. Shehu Abdullahi is a DM and not a RB while Ndidi is a CB not a DM . Our coaches should stop converting players in the national team dats y they dnt perform well most times. He should pls invite success n iheanacho in our nxt friendly match.

Bros, Leon Balogun naturally plays right back though his club occassionally features him in other positions due to his versatility. 2 yrs back he was rated as d 5th best right back at d Bundesliga.

I know those guys u mentioned. Adejo and Arokoyo are ex-Flying Eagles players. They are still U23, so let them go and fight for positions in d Siasia's team. The least thing we need now is to throw in too many young players into dat defence at once. We need a consistent back four dat will play so many matched together and understand each other jst like in d 94 Class.

I doubt that the current coach has the time to be bringing all these changes, besides he risks upsetting any balance that is been formed by the current set of SE players. I would advise that he works to get the most he can from the current squad, then replace anyone that is not competent enough.

But I support your other point on conversion. Oliseh should not be converting any player to another position when he has not gotten the best of the current position especially at the defence.
