Juan Mata has spoken of his satisfaction with life in Manchester, with the United playmaker “very happy” in the “normal city”.

The £37.1million signing moved to the north-west from Chelsea in January 2014, since when he established himself as one of Louis van Gaal’s key performers.

Mata has two and a half years remaining on his United contract and the 27-year-old says he is enjoying living in Manchester and the contrast it offers from fast-paced life in London.

“The best thing about living in Manchester is that it has a very ‘British’ atmosphere, very English,” Mata told El Pais.

“And then there is the music – a lot of really big groups have come out of Manchester. As for the architecture, it’s a very English city.

“There are galleries, museums, good restaurants – The only down side is the weather. I adapted really well because I had already lived in London. Now I’ve spent five years in England and it’s gone really quickly.”

Mata is currently on international duty with Spain, and the former Valencia star says he has no plans to return home anytime soon.
