Nigerianns confuse themselves I said it then that BVN will be a continuous process and a need obligation in opening a bank accountso how can it stop. Some people are not of age to open an account some secondary sch students will go to uni and dey will need to open account so how can it stop now. Its a continuous process and a need to open a bank account just like u need refrences. Dey only forced people to do it with dia lie of closure but most of us don't think ahead wwe swallow everything thrown at us

The Bank Verification Number (BVN) registration will still go on despite the expiration of the deadline on Saturday, October, 31, the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian Inter-bank Settlement System (NIBSS) have said.
The spokesman of the CBN, Ibrahim Muazu said yesterday that the process will still go-on and the deadline means that any customer that fails to do the registration will have some restriction to operate his accounts.
Mu’azu who spoke to our reporter on phone yesterday said from today Monday, November 2, 2015, regarded the exercise as successful, saying that majority of the banks have captured the BVN of their active accounts except for those customers that choose not to participate in the process.
He said: “Deadline was successful because the awareness has been created to millions of customers and the banking hall were empty unlike the June deadline where there were chaos everywhere in the banking halls”
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) Mr Ade Shonubi told our reporter also that the BVN is a continuous process and that it is the minimum requirement for Know Your Customer (KYC) as provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Bankers’ Committee.
He said: “What the deadline implies is that a customer who has not complied would not have access to his account until he or she complies”
The last time we approached the deadline of the Bank Verification Number (BVN) registration exercise (June 30th) set by the Central Bank, there were pandemonium as the premises of the commercial banks were overwhelmed with customers falling over themselves in a bid to beat the deadline.
The new development helped salvage the situation as customers were not seen besieging the banking hall seeking to comply with the Central Bank Directive before the deadline of October 31.
Meanwhile, some customers were not able to link their various accounts with BVN before the end of the deadline last Saturday, but the CBN said those customers still have chance to do so for them to operate the accounts properly.
Daily Trust investigations revealed that some commercial banks have adopted innovative approach for customers to update their Bank Verification Numbers if such customers have already registered with one of the commercial bank.
Finding by Daily Trust revealed that most of the commercial banks have deployed their online banking platform or a short messaging service platform to get their customers to simply text their BVN numbers for onward registration.

Was one of the early individuals who registered for BVN way back but as at yesterday 1st Nov. I couldn’t carry out any online or ATM transaction. Got to FBN this morning and was told my account has been frozen cos of BVN. I presented my BVN immediately after dialing the code *565*0# and with some form of disappointment on his face, the Customer Care dude in the bank politely apologized cos he had initially accused me of negligence and failing to beat the deadline. I had to fill out another form for the error to be rectified which he also admitted of not being sure of the duration before the rectification would be implemented.

I am financially handicap right now for no fault of mine cos I pay all necessary bills (Internet, PHCN, MTN Top-Up etc) including my daily meal online at the beginning of every month. This is an absolute sign of the end time...!!!

If CBN or the Banks wants to implement a computerized Verification scheme shouldn’t it be done in a computerized manner without me losing man-hour just to physically present my BVN again for authentication?

It is quite annoying how we are made to queue up like small children for things that could be automated. I did mine several months back, but other banks want me to come physically to their hall and queue up to link my accounts with them. It is quite irritating. If I can do business with China and firms in US without leaving my office, why should I queue up in GTBank and Access to update my records with them?

A cashier asking for ur bvn? U should have shouted and alerted people at the banking hall to be wary of that cashier to avoid an ignorant falling victim cos the cashier is a scammer in disguise or what does he/she needs ur bvn for a transaction that's glaring doesnt needs bvn?
a uba bank cashier also said samething to me when want to deposit money into another acct which is not my account, I told her what if I don't have any bank account, she insisted not to do the transacion unless I see the bank manager to sign on my teller.....

Perhaps we should asks cbn is this also their directive?

If it was extended as it was the case in June, some bank customers will still not do it.

You register one BVN at any bank you have an account in.

Then you take that one BVN and go link it with the other accounts you have at other banks.

This means if you have ten accounts at ten different banks, you will have to go queue up at ten different banks. grin

Banking in Nigeria can be so frustrating. My sister who has an account in Access Bank but running a programme in the States received a mail to do her BVN over there for 45 dollars. I don't her to ignore them. When she gets back she will close that account.
