Corruption At Lagos State University Teaching Hospital Ikeja by Nobody: 2:13pm On Nov 03, 2015
Just like any other patient who have experienced this ill treatment, I was shocked when one of the hospitals attendance graced me with a surprising insult. To be frank,I was part of corps members that passed out few months ago and out of my busy scheduled and health challenges I decided to go to LAUTH at Ikeja to have myself treated. But to my greatest surprise, the hospital attendant told me that I can not see a doctor as at 12:04pm this noon again or can choose to come back tomorrow or settle him so that I will freely see a doctor. I asked him how much is consultant and card fee but he said no fee is involved. Having taken time to explain to the man that I was part of corps members that passed out few months ago and that I only had 500 naira to pay so he can easily refer me to the doctor because of the urgency of my illness, he refused. According to him ,that money won't take him anywhere talk more of taking some change to the doctor. Even when I was begging him with that amount so that he will direct me to the doctor proved abortive as he was demanding 3k+. It was after all the pleading that I later discovered that he was not ready to pay a listening ears to me. Because of this reason, I decided to relax a little bit under the fan to reduce my temperature before going back home where I spent almost 1k on T.F going. When I came outside I saw one doctor whom I tried explaining my ordeal to but he didn't bothered buying into my explanations. My question is,is that Lagos State Government are not paying this workers well or they just want to suffer innocent citizens for nothing. No wonder many young doctors are buying cars this days at the expense of patients without any remorse. May God keep me alive till tomorrow so that I will use another hospitals.

First, dude, you need to get the difference between LASUTH and LUTH. If the hospital you're talking about is LASUTH, then give us details of who it was that asked you for a bribe in order to see a doctor.

I'm not disputing your claims that an attendant asked you for a bribe, but it won't be substantiated without an identity or proof.

And if you have an appointment at a clinic, you should come in the morning when they take a count and attend to patients who show up. You can't have an appointment at an embassy and show up at noon. When you have hundreds of people arriving at 7am, and may not even be seen till 5pm cos of the number of people on the queue.

I can strongly confirm, and you can quote me anywhere that LASUTH doctors don't collect bribes to see patients. This is the first time I'm hearing this in the ten years I've been here.

So when you see a young doctor but a car, it's definitely not from your 500 bribe you give to attendants. These guys hustle their butts off, do two to three jobs and yes, they deserve to be paid well for their hustle.

And if you still need to see a doctor at any of the clinics, holla.

twoondei or whatever shut up if you don't know what to say. is it not the work of the doctors to attend to patients at any time. must he go in the morning? 12pm isn't a bad time to visit the hospital.

First, if it is a clinic appointment you have in any hospital, there is a time attached to it. 8am most times.

If you're coming for emergency health care, there is a medical emergency where everyone has access to. There are tens of doctors there to attend to you at anytime of the day.

If you are coming to a hospital for the first time for something thateven you do not consider an eemergency, you will be referred to the clinic where you're supposed to show up early. There's only a limit to how many people a doctor will see before 4pm closing time. Coming at noon isn't right.

So it is he who has got no fact or common knowledge that shouldn't make it hard to find sensible comments on nairaland.

What I mean is Lagos State University Teaching Hospital located at Ikeja before computer village. The truth is that I cannot come out to make cheap popularity on nairaland against this hospital according to your little accusation. I may not have a video or tape evidence either to buttress my point but the fact remains that I was seriously in need of urgent medical attention but was graced by this ingrate attendant whom I believe is well paid in that hospital. The guy in question is in his early 40+,average height, roboarst but not fair. He stays where cards are issued to patients close to department of General nervous related infection(not too sure of this but I read something of that nature before going in there). The guy himself even saw how I was bending down seriously because of the stomach bite but paid a deaf ear. I even explained that I took permission from my colleagues because my attention was disturbing the work environment and he should help me to see a doctor. He asked me if I knew anybody there in the hospital and I said no. That was when he now told me to come closer as if he had something serious to tell me. To my greatest surprised he said consultancy and card are always free but that I must drop something before seeing a doctor. And that I came at the wrong time 12pm which means that doctor will have his own share while himself take the other. I pleaded with only 500 naira to give me chance to see a doctor but he said it will attract 3k+ because the doctor had to collect his own commission. Out of fatigue I decided to relax a bit before departing back to my office. It was a very pathetic.

. . .. .What is this young man saying? Is that how you operates at LASUTH? I had never seen in my whole life where a patient will go directly to medical emergency section without firstly consulting anyone. That your suggestion can only be applicable when a patient is unconscious or could not be assisted with much help. As a patient,I was still conscious of any situation though, my health situation at a time was critical for him to have directed me to your said emergency unit. Please for your info there was no wrong place I went. If it's so,security and other nurses I approached abinio should have directed me to the appropriate place.
