FAQ.
As a person with English as my first language, what would be the most useful foreign language that I could learn?

These two lists make it clear which languages you should consider.

1. The list of 10 most spoken languages by number of countries

French
Arabic
Spanish
Portuguese
German
Italian
Mandarin
Malay
Kiswahili
Russian

2. The six official languages of the United Nations

Arabic
Chinese
English
French
Russian
Spanish

Why these three lists?

Of course, when you learn a new language, your point is to reach to the biggest amount of people that language can offer for you. You probably want the language to be the most useful language when you travel. And languages used by mega international worldwide organizations are good ones to take into consideration.

French
With Nigeria surrounded by Francophone countries, learning French can majorly boost anyone’s professional worth. Spoken by more than 290 million people worldwide, French has truly become a global language. It is the official language of 29 countries including France, Canada, Switzerland, Monaco, Luxembourg, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Haiti, Belgium, Rwanda, Togo, Mali and more.
France dominates in pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, aeronautics, energy production, and more. In addition, with global initiatives to promote development in impoverished areas of Africa, French is key. Many countries throughout North Africa, West Africa, Central Africa and East Africa have French as one of the official languages. Being able to communicate in French can land you consultant, non-profit, administration, and tons of other jobs.
French is also the official language of NATO, the United Nations, the Olympics, the Red Cross, and other international organizations. For Americans, since Spanish is often the first foreign language learned, speaking French gives you an edge over other jobseekers.

This is a great greeting to use with anyone you see rather often or someOne you know rather well. As is the case with greeting someone, bidding someone farewell

This is an extremely informal way of greeting someone, so reserve this one for close friends and family,

While a cognate of English, this is not used in the same capacity as bonjour, in that you cannot use it to greet people on the street.

This expression, like bonjour, is another go-to standard salutation, usable in virtually any situation: as you leave the hair salon, as you leave the bus, as you take leave from an acquaintance.

Use to apologies for any wrong or inconveniencies
