Notorious kidnapper killed in Umuahia

A[b] notorious killer and kidnapper who leaves in Anambra State but operates in Umuahia, Chijioke Ekezie (alias Chin Chung) was killed on Saturday, after picking ransom money from the car of a relative to a kidnapped victim.

Chung, who was said to have confessed killing Udoka Ogbuagu, a new generation bank manger last three days before dying, was quoted to have named several others, including a permanent secretary killed two years ago.

The day the banker was killed, the police arrested over 40 commercial motor cycle operators and "80per cent of them turned out to be police men who operate after the hours officially banned by state government and nobody knows what has happened to them".

Another source, said Governor Theodore Orji who is worried by the activities of the renowned assassin, ordered the Commissioner of Police (CP) to arrest the 35 year old killer before he returns from his trip outside the state.

The governor, the source added, was worried that despite all has done to help the police curb the excesses of kidnappers and armed robbers in the state the police seem to be handling criminals with kids glove.

Addressing Journalists in Umuahia, the Commissioner of Police, Edgar Tam Nanakumo said that Chin Chung was killed when he went to collect N200,000 ransom on a kidnapped victim on Bende Road Umuahia.

"The kidnappers, riding on a motorbike had picked the money, and made to escape, when the police shot them to stop their escape bid and he was taken to Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia, where he died", he said.

Nanakumo said that items recovered from Chim Chung include three Nokia GSM phones, one belonging to a kidnapped victim, others are N200,000 cash ransom money and motorcycle and a Volkswagen Passat car with registration number, AH 340 KMR. [/b]
