Alhaji Bashir Tofa is a businessman and politician. He came to limelight when he contested the 1993 presidential election with the late business mogul, Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, in an election adjudged free and fair, but annulled by the military.

Abiola was believed to have won the poll. In this interview, Tofa thinks the level of corruption in the country is sickening and, as such, believes that President Muhammadu Buhari is on the right path as he fights the ill head-long irrespective of the hues and cries that the fight is selective.

He takes a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, for its condemnation of the Federal Government and the judiciary over the on going election tribunal judgments, saying only fools make accusations without proof.

What is your impression so far about the Buhari government in the light of the confirmed ministers?

I think, on the whole, President Buhari has done well and that is expected. Anybody who enters a house and just begins to live in it without checking the structure and the leakages and doing something to do some repair, that house may collapse on him if it is structurally deficient.

President Buhari now knows more about the condition of the house,he is making some repairs, strengthening some pillars, blocking some leakages, and can now be said to be ready to settle down and do what is needful.
Hopefully, the ministers will be given their portfolios by mid-November; they will quickly move to their ministries, examine things, review the draft budgets for their ministries; a final budget will be agreed upon by the Executive Council and presented to the National Assembly – all before the end of December. Hopefully, the National Assembly will not waste time, knowing the poor state of the nation.

The PDP senators walked out of the chamber in protest against the confirmation of former River Governor Rotimi Amaechi. What do you make of the drama?

Well, it was just the normal mischief and envy by those who fear Amaechi becoming a minister, after two successful terms as governor of Rivers State. Surely, he has enemies and, if you noticed, objections that are received in respect of some of the nominees were from their home states. Remember what Jesus (peace be upon him) said: “A prophet is not popular in his own country”. But Rotimi Amaechi is a good man, hard working and friendly to those who know him well. Again, he was right about the rigged elections in Rivers State. The tribunal has vindicated him.

Do you think the marginalization song by the South-east, particularly in this Buhari government, is valid?

I have not heard any sensible and responsible Igbo man making such accusations. It was just the ranting of some fanatics, who always want us to see ourselves in tribal and religious garbs. After all these years together, it is a shame that we are still unable to shed these identities and become Nigerians. The more we continue this way, the more harm we inflict on our national unity and progress.

I am sure President Buhari’s main consideration is not WHO a person is, but WHAT that person can deliver to the Nigerian people. I have long advocated that we must stop being a country of “You know WHO, but a country of you know WHAT’.

It is no surprise that nigerian cannot exist without Igbo people.

Nigeria succeed by the expertise of Igbo business men, our political acumen, global acceptability, refined civilisation and tolerance etc.
I pity Nigeria when IGBO people leave

The reason why most of you don't just get it that you can't force people into a union and mistreat them at the same time, such union will never work. If Igbos are all you call them, why is it so difficult for you to go your separate way and let us be.

There will never be any so-called one Nigeria until her rotten structure is torn down and it's old relics such as: quota system, catchment area, state of origin and other free hand-outs like the baseless admission cutoff point unfairly given to Northerners unjustifiably are trashed

The moderators, please permit me to say this "THE MAN IS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND LIABILITY TO NIGERIA" Despite what they did in 1993,they thought as usual power will go back to the north after IBB and when it failed, they used force to take it.My greatest pain is some ZOMBIES from the west will support him because he mentioned the Igbos. That's one of the reasons the Biafrans want to go,they are tired of living with this type of man.It is his types that make NIGERIA an INSANE society.

So what gave you the impression that others cannot do what the igbos are doing?
Is it in education, business, manufacturing or what a view. In my own observations the Igbos need other Nigerians more as the Igbos benefited more from the population strength of the Nigerian society through their services and products.
Remember no man holds monopoly of knowledge, skills, tactfulness and resourcefulness. It will be better off for Nigerians without the crude competition for businesses from the Igbo traders and manufacturers.
Again, what the biafran agitators fails to understand is that Nigeria will decide their own policies for non citizens as it suits her and considering the hate campaign the biafran agitators are spreading, it will be convenient for a Togolese or beninoise to do business in Nigeria than a biafran if there's secession eventually.
Kindly ask yourself how many non indigenous business outfits are suited in the south East as compared to the southeasterners business outfits in other Nigerian States?

Igbo are relatively peaceful, but too domineering. They are also the most 'un-forgiving' and hateful set of christians on earth.

Whatever Tofa likes let him call the Igbos, the important thing is to give them what they want. I don't think it is a difficult thing to do by FG Ibos reject a forced marriage and want to break off, what is bad in that? The UN is to be blamed because the ibos have requested UN to intervene by way of conducting a referendum, but UN still turning deaf ear. FG should let ibos go in peace, because no Yorubas man will join the hausas to fight ibos That is the plain truth. The Yorubas will equally prefer being a loaf .

Ok having read Alhaji's postulating on Igbo Fanaticism, I have a few questions,
1) can the 1999 call for Sharia rule by northern states be said to be Fanaticism?
2) can the use of under aged voters in order to elect "one of their own" be said to be Fanaticism?
3) can agitation by people who feel slighted by such injustice as listed above be called Fanaticism?

Before some people talk they need to sit down and think, especially if they are "elder statesmen"

We were all here when they trooped to stadiums all over the north immediately Nigeria got free from Military rule, demanding Sharia Law over the constitution.

Now that Easterners are agitating you call them fanatics. Thus is the problem with this country.
