Revamp P’harcourt, Abuja, Lagos Airports, APC Tells Amaechi by Emperorone(m): 7:13am On Nov 13, 2015
Chukwudi Akasike

BARELY 24 hours after former governor Rotimi
Amaechi was inaugurated as minister, the
Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives
Congress on Thursday set an agenda for him to
revamp the Port Harcourt International Airport
perceived to be one of the worst airports in the
world.
The state APC congratulated the former
governor and also urged him to begin the
immediate rehabilitation of the Nnamdi Azikiwe
International Airport, Abuja, and the Murtala
Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The state APC, in a statement signed by its
Chairman, Dr. Davies Ikanya, recalled that while
the international airport in Abuja had been rated
the seventh worst in Africa, the one in Lagos
was rated the 10th worst airport in Africa.
Explaining that the current conditions of the
three airports were unacceptable, the party
expressed the confidence that Amaechi would
use his wealth of experience to correct the
anomaly imposed on Nigerians by the
immediate past administration of Dr. Goodluck
Jonathan.
“This is not acceptable to us and we wish that
Amaechi quickly corrects this shameful anomaly
imposed on us by the visionless administration
of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and his misguided
Peoples Democratic Party.
“We heartily congratulate our leader on his
meritorious appointment as the Minister of
Transport while at the same time we extend our
heartfelt gratitude to President Muhammadu
Buhari for his confidence in Amaechi.
“We wish to assure Mr. President and all
Nigerians that Amaechi, who has a track record
of performance, will deliver even beyond
expectations if given the necessary
cooperation,” the state APC stressed.
It noted that the former governor of River State
possessed a track record of performance and
expressed gratitude to President Buhari for
appointing Amaechi as a minister.
The party pointed out that Amaechi was coming
into the transport ministry at a time when the
railway system in the country remained
moribund with the maritime sector in a chaotic
state.
It said, “Amaechi is coming in as the transport
minister at a time when the railway system is
moribund and the maritime sector is in a chaotic
state.
“We know what Amaechi is made of and we
expect him not only to turn around the fortunes
of the railway system, but also to do the same
to the maritime sector.”
The party appealed to all Rivers people and
Nigerians generally to accord Amaechi the
support and prayers he needed to enable him to
take the sector to the next level.
It also congratulated the 35 other ministers and
called on Nigerians to cooperate with them so
that the citizenry could feel the positive change
promised by the APC.

How the hell! !! You might say the statement comes from APC state chapter but how the he'll did they mention Abuja, Lagos and PH airport and excluding Enugu. So Enugu is no longer an international airport in Nigeria ?

You see the marginalisation we are talking about? Low federal presence in the SE.

This is the mentality of APC in the national level and if they upgrade all other airports and exclude Enugu they will be in trouble.

I'm sure he will revamp them

Our airports are eyesores yet we had a minister under the clueless one buying bullet proof cars and "doing the needful"

these are the major routes foreigners take when coming into the country, and the state of these airports calls for immediate attention. These are also the major airports providing airfreight revenue to the govt. Enugu, Kano and the rest will be looked into after these.

You folks read meaning to everything...that Kano which is even more viable than Enugu wasn't mentioned, doesn't mean his midas touch wouldn't spread across the nooks and cranny of airports within the country

Rubbish! !! The reasons Enugu isn't more used than those of Lagos and Abuja is because of the same marginalisation and now APC want to continue with this marginalisation.

Your excuses for this marginalisation to continue are baseless and do not follow.

Even as it is recently constructed it can't rate as a standard international airport even those of Lagos and Abuja, stop giving excuses for marginalisation.

Abuja is in the north, Lagos in thé West, PH in the south, it is only natural and even to have one in the east amongst those to be upgraded.

Stop finding flimsy excuses to justify marginalisation.

You people are bunch of educated illiterates....we have Lagos, PH and Enugu airports all belonging to southern part of Nigeria, must Abuja which is even meant for the whole country serve the whole north which is even bigger than the whole south

We have 3 regions in the North, yet they have been contented with Kano as only international airport, yet you folks cry of marginalisation, why don't you folks even say we should spoonfeed u everyday

Cry me a river! !! The entire North has Abuja to hold onto, they don't even travel much most of them are illiterates and cattle rearers/nomads, SW has Lagos, S'S has PH, the equation must be balanced, equity calls to include SE alla Enugu airport.

The APC has since inception shown to us their disinterest in the development of the SE, sane people still ask what Rochas is still doing there.

I'm not surprised, if the President could boldly call us 5% few months ago then much worse are coming, but be ready to face the aftermath.

You have gone bananas and started digressing from the topic. I will cease to quote you after this.

You lot resort to insults and propaganda when you can no longer argue straight.

Mark it, if APC upgrades all other airport and leaves Enugu by marginalising Ndigbo, they should be ready to harvest the fruit it shall yield.
