Obama To Visit Ghana, 6 Other African Nations And Not Nigeria by Nobody: 12:30pm On May 19, 2009
While most of the online bloggers here wallow in their self-pride and a long dissipated glory of the giant of Africa title in a recent blog in support of our Nigerians brothers in Ghana who might be staging a market take-over and control in Ghana; I marvel to see several bloggers calling Ghanians "Jealous", "Envious". Are they?

I believe the claims to be very illusion and unsound, because its been recently confirmed in a White House statement that Barack Obama who is visiting Africa in June would rather go to Ghana because it has a good and "sound governance", in place, and it is a "civil society." And the US would love to strenghten bonds with them, and recognize them as the most competent and best democracy within the sub-saharan region.

To my fellow Nigerians who couldnt see beyond their long crumbled national pride, Obama wouldnt even acknowledge Umar Yaradua as a legitimate president, because he wasn't. If a great leader like Barack Obama had run in Nigeria against the inept and incapable Umaru Yaradua or anyother PDP candidate, I am sure Prof. Maurice Iwu would have handed the landslide to his handlers and not the peoples candidate.
The Ekiti electoral rigging and crisis and , instability hitting the country, with the escalating Niger Delta crisis was cited as part of the reasons President Obama won't be coming to Nigeria, despite the fact the US has more special interests in our country.
So I hope this serve as a direct correction. The Ghanians are not envious of Nigerians. But rather, they are worried, and they have the right to be wary of our activities on their soil. What good can they except from a nation that couldnt even conduct a free and fair election.
I think we need to start looking up to Ghana as one of the emerging leaders in Africa. Nigeria can continue to follow.

It is only a totally self-reliant nation that should dismiss the importance of Obama and the USA. When established and wealthy nations that actually have varied choices and options are seeking to strenghten ties with the USA I really wonder the special arrogance imbued in Nigerians that will make us dismiss the benefits of an Obama visit , as a precursor to a greater relationship with the USA.  When our nation is extremely dependent on others , as we produces little finished goods of use to the world while we conversely rely entirely on imports of almost all finished products required for everyday existence,  we should deploy humility and hardwork in striving to improve our lot !!!!

No Nigerian should puff up their chest in arrogating to our nation importance that is currently  non-factual . Such arrogance is one of the root cause of our present folly. We should humbly accept that we have sunk as low as possible . A Nigeria desirous of progress has no business shunning opportunities to forge closer equitable ties with the USA or indeed any of the most advanced nations of the world.

We are merely currently tolerated because of our oil. When the Worlds demand for oil falls appreciably in future (and it will) and we remain as we are then we will see that no one actually respected us to start with. They were merely tolerating us .
Re: Obama To Visit Ghana, 6 Other African Nations And Not Nigeria by Nobody: 4:56pm On May 19, 2009
Our blind pride and ego baffles me quite alot. Obama's visit is an integrity test. And we failed. Simply put, we can either get angry at the corruption that we have all known since our childhood and start campaigning for change. The Ghanians had been where we are, and I would say something: it takes greatness to accept failure.

Obama remains a beacon of change that he is, and believe it or not, if I was a Ghanians I would be extremely proud to have such a great man in my country, as this would greatly pull internatonal focus more on the country.

If we can painfully accept the fact that Ghana has surpassed us in every economical facets, then we can somehow trace the history of their rise, and that of our national fall, we can come to ask ourselves the tough question: What Must Be Done.

Obama's visit would have shattered the entire fear and bad media been shot at us. Pulled in millions of investors, and helped us economically.
We can try to improve or begrudingly keep saying he's irrelevant, while we keep watching losers who cant even repair our refinieries squander our time and generator.
This is merely a wake up call. The truth is cold.
Re: Obama To Visit Ghana, 6 Other African Nations And Not Nigeria by Nobody: 5:00pm On May 19, 2009
the question "Who Obama be" is not credible at this time

because the Presidency vigorously lobbied to visit President Obama in the White House but go neither an invite to visit nor a promise to be visited.

The 'number 1' man in Nigeria went begging cap-in-hand asking to visit Obama in his own house - the White House. The State Department allowed one of its lower-ranked personnel to attend to your number 1 man's emissaries - not even the Secretary of State (Hillary), heck, even a senior official. Nigerians who have lived abroad understand that these people do not just do something. . .everything is well planned, down to the finest details. . .so this was not a random occurrence.

Next, the same Obama announces to visit another country (Ghana) just at our backyard in their own country without lobbying, begging or asking, doesn't that speak volumes?. . .but some Nigerians will still defend the indefensible! If only Nigeria had done a few things just right and gotten a few things wrong since 2007, the eyes of the world could have been on Nigeria now, during the visit and afterward for good! What a free opportunity to truly re-brand Nigeria when all the cameras from a lot of countries will be here 'for free'. . .beaming live images throughout his time in the country?

Yet someone, like a child who has just been chastised, says "we don't care for the visit afterward". . .but your president went BEGGING for a VISIT in the first place and GOT an embarrassing NO. . .who doesn't know that? So, if your number 1 got such a treatment, who is the number 121,000,000?? person who says it doesn't matter? Well, like the G20 case, wait for the excuses, whining and lamentation of your number 1, empty Yaradull. Some people are just blessed with a short memory and non-objective thinking!

Obama didn't go to Nigeria for obvious reasons (not the foolishness you are talking here): Niger-delta crises et all. security; nothing more.

How can Obama visit an illiterate, hunger stricken, lawless, criminal minded, useless lugard's cage that is being managed by porous housa and Yoruba heads?

Yes, These will serve for Lessons to our Leaders who were never ready to yield to the call to take a new leaf.

Not listing Nigeria to the Countries the President of the world is visiting among the African Nations serves us better, So our Leaders could learn.
Re: Obama To Visit Ghana, 6 Other African Nations And Not Nigeria by udezue(m): 3:27am On Jun 11, 2009
Obama is an honest man and I love how he is honestly showing Nigerian leaders that they are trash not worth seeing.

You people need get the arrogance out of the way and see what it is. Your country has been fuckin up and finally a BLACK PRESIDENT is telling by his actions that its time to get yourselves together unlike other white American presidents who will entertain such FOOLS for business.

It is our number 1 that is embarrassing himself, I don't think we sent him to go and beg Obama for a visit. I particularly I don't care if Obama visit Nigeria or not, even though let our number 1 continue embarassing himself that is his own cup of tea.

So what's ur point? very senseless.

Bill Clinton was here. What was our benefit? Bush was equally here. What did we benefit from the visit. If Obama comes, how does it put food on the table of the masses. Go to blazes with your demi - god (Obama)

You guys should stop all the nonsense about obama not visiting our mother land.
There is no big deal about it he can go to Ghana no problem with that.
Lets be realistic about it you people should stop shouting obama obama he his not coming to Nigeria
Let him goto Ghana great i wish them the best.
This is our country and we should stop degrading it.
You people are the ones spoiling this country with all your irrelevant noise.
If you people promote the goodness of Nigeria it will be better than shouting wolf.
We agree our system is not perfect yet but we will get there and there is nothing any one can do about it.
You people forget we are a very competitive nation always striving for the best.
So what Ghana has started by competing with Nigeria i hope they can keep it up.
Obama great guy but he his not the saviour.

You guys are ignorant, what will OBAMA be doing in NIGERIA, NIGERIA is not worth his presence. NIGERIA is in no way important to the USA, It is an illegal country ruled by illegality. Pls y'll should add senses to your post. NIGERIA is just a big fool of a country which doesnt know his left from right still hanging around past glories. Nigeria isnt even important in Africa. Africans see Nigeria as a displaced country more cursed than blessed. Africans dont hate Nigerians they hate Nigeria. They dont know why a citizen of Nigeria blessed with so much oil will come to their neighboring states and hussler along side them. They dont know why we who claim to be leaders can lead ourselves. The most important and influencial country in Africa is South Africa. Infact they are the Africa power house. You will have to mention Libya, Tunisia, Ghana, Namibia, bostwana, Egypt, Morocco before you mention Nigeria. We cant even power a street in lagos and we are all runing our mouth. Americans dont even wanna see or hear of anything Nigeria. Anything Nigeria is associated with crime and fraud. I am personally embarassed when church members come telling of the email scam they receive from Nigeria daily. Why wont those 419ers scam all those politicians, kidnap all of them, and make them vomit their ill gotten wealth?
Dora experienced it one hand, she thought she could blind the world with her rebranding project, so they had to first rebrand her at the airport in chicago before immigration allowed her in. Dem dey crazy why her pickin no go sch for Naija. Minister when dey take style find yankee paper. I hope she got the News, America doesnt want Nigeria leaders, rule ur country with illegality but!, sidon there,
Meanwhile ordinary Nigerians a.k.a common men with good intentions are welcome to the land of the free and home of the brave.
