I have looked with utter displeasure at fb posts written by my fellow beloved Nigerians calling those who have joined the ‪#‎prayforparis‬ campaign as hypocrites.

I tell you what you will find out that the real hypocrites are those pointing accusing fingers and yet they barely offer any prayer for Nigeria.

The real hypocrites are those who have so easily forgotten that it was in a French Film Festival in Cannes that the Expendables cast supported the ‪#‎bringbackourgirls‬ campaign in 2014. The same campaign that led to an international outrage and widespread condemnation about the kidnapping of the Chibok girls which saw notable world personalities join the same campaign like the British Prime Minister David Cameron, Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton, Malala, Christiane Amanpour, Queen Latifah, P.Diddy, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway to mention a few. The pictures of Google celebrating Nigeria on October 1st still lingers in my heart with ultimate joy and I am left dumbfounded with the query against Facebook for offering to customise their users profile pictures with the flag of France which is such a noble act in commiserating with the French.

The real hypocrites are those who have dreams and wishes of visiting the Eiffel Tower or Disneyland but today forget that the two centres of attraction are in Paris.

The real hypocrites are those who easily forget that it was a few months ago that the President of Nigeria visited Paris to solicit for support from the French government in combatting a group as deadly as isil in the form of boko haram.

I therefore I ask is it then too much to ask of us to join the Parisiens and indeed the whole of France in prayer in this their night hour?

What I have come to understand is that we have missed the plot and the lesson we as Nigerians are supposed to learn from this episode. The Charlie hebdo attacks occured a few months ago and we saw the response from the French government, this also we are seeing their response in line with them closing their borders and hunting the culprits down. This is because these guys value the lives of the citizenry and know and act in accordance with their responsibility to the people they serve and not to politise things as sacred as human life that has seen many brutally murdered at the hands of boko haram just to further a selfish political course.
Even without terrorist attacks that have
claimed the lives of many you could question our value for life when you look at how many people have died to our bad roads or our poor health system.

I am baffled and perplexed how we have failed to understand the underlying motive behind the campaign and turned it into something not what mentioning. I think its passed the time we desist from this 'how Europe underdeveloped Africa' mentality and begin to see things from enlightened lenses. Peace is priceless, violence is senseless anywhere in the world be it in a well known Paris, a little known Baga or in a school in Kenya and that is what this is about. Rom 12:15

Anyone who feels like offering prayer shouldn't be discouraged as its a choice.

You don't feel like, don't condemn any who does

I completely agree with you, there is absolutely nothing wrong with praying for Paris during this difficult time, so I will never judge anyone who does, doesn't change the fact Nigeria generally looks outward more than within, we feel inferior to the white man, these are known facts, there's 2 sides to the coin.
