I got this message on my youtube message box from a female white user called,Orishadance.She asked me for a particular information which i think that other people here are better informed than i  am.I would like for them to please post a fairly detailed response to the question so that i can send it back to her.

Many aspects of this religion came from the Yoruba people who were brought to Cuba during slavery. I am a white woman, a daughter of professors, and raised a Christian, but I believe 100% in Orisha.

I have a question for you, and I ask you with respect. From what I hear, the missionaries converted many people in Nigeria to Christianity. They have traded ancient spiritual traditions for those of the white man. Is this true? To your knowledge, have most Yoruba today abandoned the Orisha?

I am curious to know. Thank you very much for your reply, and thanks for posting these Nigerian videos/movies!

I could give a fair answer to her question but i thought there are nairalanders in this forum who can give a much more informed response to her request because they are much more familiar with our traditional religions and our history.

You should just give her a link to Nairaland so she can see for herself. I think (with the exception of the extremely vocal atheists) that Nairaland is fairly representative of Nigeria's religious attitudes and views.

Otherwise you can give her the simple straight forward answer which is YES.

I'm sure there are Nigerians and Nigerian churches in her area where she can ask that question.

The missonaries also converted many ancient Europeans/whites to Christianity, since the major world religions are all middle eastern, not white ones.

St Patrick of Irish legend, didnt convert Ireland to their ancient spiritual traditions.
