Yuguda sacks commissioner, 911 aides

From Ali Garba, Bauchi

ALL the 911 special aides to Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State have been fired. Also sacked by the governor is the Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Ahmed Abdullahi. The action takes immediate effect.

In a statement by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Dandija and made available to The Guardian in Bauchi, he explained that Yuguda had sacked "23 special advisers, 41 senior special assistants, 265 special assistants and 582 personal assistants, as well as some chairmen, all full-time and part-time members of boards and parastatals in the state."

Abdullahi, formerly director of press affairs for over 16 years in the Government House, also served as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Housing before his appointment as a commissioner last year.

The SSG also said about 17 chairmen of the board and parastatals were retained.

The sacked commissioner was directed to hand over to his permanent secretary while the 23 special advisers and the political appointees were to hand over government's assets in their possession to the ministry, department and agencies they were attached to.

The sacked chairmen of the boards and parastatals were directed to hand over government's property to the chief executives of such organisations with immediate effect.

The Guardian learnt that the sack was meant to accommodate members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Yuguda's new political platform.

Meanwhile, despite allegations that the massive employment of youths by the state government last year was a political gimmick, the Hospital Management Board has said the exercise was genuine.

Chairman of the board, Alhaji Hamzat Mallami, who refuted the allegations, told journalists in his office that the health sector alone employed over 2,500 youths as supporting workers and doctors in 20 new general hospitals being built in the state.

While explaining the reason for delay in the payment of salaries of the employed youths since October last year, Mallami said the previous leadership of the board over-employed the target by about 332 youths.

Mallami said the new employees would soon be issued with the personnel service numbers (PSN) to confirm their employment and ensure payment of their salaries.

A terribly dirty politics that we play in this part of the world. A man that won election is switching allegiance to another party just about midway into his tenure and now he is sacking those people who obviously played some roles in his successful rigging winning of the election.
