Feminism is a touchy topic; different people see it differently. The dictionary defines feminism as a social or political movement which argues that legal and social restrictions on women must be removed in order to bring about equality of both sexes in all aspect of public and private life. Instead of talking about What is feminism, the focal point of this article is: what isn’t feminism. 1. Feminism is not female chauvinism. I think some women have taken feminism and contorted it into something a rational woman wouldn’t want to participate in. They make it seem like feminism is all about being superior to men. This isn’t what feminism stands for. Feminism is all about equality between men and women. It preaches equal rights. Human rights. Not necessarily equal roles. Women are not better than men! Feminism preaches that women should be treated the same way as men. Women should be given the same opportunities men have because we are equal. 2. Feminism is not man-hating. Feminism is not a cult for disgruntled women! Some people are of the opinion that feminists are angry with men. Freud talked about “penis envy”... Some peeps have different definitions for it. I guess it means a lot to diff peeps. I am a feminist but to my own definition not 2 some 'il-informed elements' definition. Ngozi Chimamanda is a feminist and she's happily married. Some peeps don't even know the definition at all. Feminists believes in marriage, respect their men and run their home with wisdom. 'il-informed feminists' just need to get informed. |
