Petroleum products consumers in Akwa Ibom State paid the highest retail price of N187.50 per litre for premium motor spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol, in November, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on Sunday.
The latest premium motor spirit (petrol) price watch report, released on Sunday, documented the actual average monthly prices reportedly paid by households for the commodity across the 36 States and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was N115.35 per litre.
The average price payable by consumers in the 36 states during the month is about 24.6 per cent above the official approved retail price of N87 per litre.
Average price increase on a month-on-month basis shows N23.4 per litre, while year-on-year basis is about N7.87 per litre.
A close review of the report revealed that consumers in Akwa Ibom, who paid N92.75 per litre of petrol in October, paid additional N94.75 in November, about 102.16 per cent higher.
Petrol consumers in Abia State, who paid an average of N92.56 per litre in October, were paying N146.59 in November, followed closely by their counterparts in Cross River, who were paying N140.40 per litre, from N105.80 per litre paid in October.
Consumers in the other states that paid higher prices for petrol during the month under review included those in Rivers, who paid N139.57 per litre, from N100.14 in October; Benue, N138.57, from N90.80 in October; Anambra, N131.13 per litre, from N89.53 in the previous month, and Bayelsa, N130 per litre, from N111 in the previous month.
The average price for petrol in Delta state during the month was N92.20 per litre, from N87 in October, and Edo, N106.78 per litre, from N90.30 the previous month.
