Can I Remove The Propeller In My 2005 Murano? by MrKelly: 7:17pm On Dec 22, 2015
After spending 3 weeks at the mechanic workshop for general mentainance which cost me a fortune, my murano packed up in the middle of the road and was subsequently towed by LASTMA to their office. I have to pay fine to get it out. The mechanic said the back axle has to be changed for the SUV to move again. I don't think I need the 4-wheel so I asked him to remove the propeller but he insisted that the vehicle will remain immobile if the propeller is removed. Some other mechanics however said that removing the propeller will not affect its movement but will only make it 2 wheel rather than 4 wheel. Pls guys, I need your opinion.

Nigerians and short cuts.

Car will remain immobile if axle is taken out.

Change axle if bad. Change mechanic if bad.

Your Murano is permanent AWD, very different from a pick-up truck that is switchable, with no centre differential.

Your Murano has a centre differential - which means if your propshaft is removed, your car won't move. Drive will be transmitted to the output of the least resistance - the centre differential output-to-propeller flange. In layman' terms, the output flange that would normally be bolted to the propshaft will be spinning.

The Murano's AWD set-up requires a minimum of 3 driven wheels to be on the ground, in any combination. So 2 driven wheels ONLY will NOT transmit drive. The 2 wheels that are NOT in contact with the ground will spin.

What exactly is wrong with your rear differential?

He said he's car broke down, and was towed by lastma. i think the lastma officials damaged his differential by towing it without a flatbed.
people never fail to listen
Never ever tow an AWD vehicle without a flatbed, if you had told them the risks involved i doubt if they would ignore your words...
