My pple, I came about this story & feels it shld be shared

http://www.militarytimes.com/story/veterans/2015/12/20/disabled-marine-pursues-new-goal-of-aquaponics-farming/77662402/

I want our "Oga's" in d house (@soft777, @Pavore9 ) to educate us more on how one can use small place (&with limited cost) to grow out food using re-cycled water from a small quantity of fish (Tillapia or Catfish).

Oga @soft777 has actually talked abt it in the catfish thread, but I feel we shld create a separate thread exclusively for AQUAPONICS or soiless farming.

I also remember that Oga @pavore9 said he was going to share more light on it.

So, over to you my Ogas @ d top. Let's make Agric "trendy"

I am on vacation, so less brain work for now! cheesy

Aquaponics is really worth it as it tends to help one achieve organic farming. The aquaponics farm l know some Catholic Nuns manage is a greenhouse measuring 24ft by 90ft(less than half plot of land) with fish ponds of about 9,000 catfish and vertical PVC pipes on which their strawberry are grown and they harvest about 1,000 kg of strawberries on a monthly basis. In the event of pest they use rabbit urine for treatment, so the farm is 100% organic.

The waste water from the fish ponds drips through the vertical PVC pipes where the strawberries are grown, underneath the PVC pipes is a piping that takes the filtrated water back to the fish pond.

Happy christmas , not all crops in an aquaponics system needs green house to survive like tomatoes they need lots of sunlight to grow faster , you can have the tomatoes mounted over your pond directly and it will grow well ......Will elaborate further

Pls Oga @soft777, our intension shld be to make Agric as trendy & as easy as possible & with minimal cost & space using AQUAPONIC technology. If we are able to achieve this, we wld hv removed a big impedement to our food insecurity.
Also, we wld hv created an avenue for our teaming youths to engage in agriculture, thus reducing unemployment.

With @soft777 & @pavore9 experience & tutuledge, we can achieve this.

Over to you my Ogas @ d top.

Am quoting @soft777 from another thread & am facinated with the idea of polyculture of shrimps & tilapia ..........to table size in 4mnths with zero cost of feeding...........

I know that this is possible, but how do we (scaleably) set this up in a small place (with minimal cost) such that a symbiotic relationship cld be established betwn the (recycleable) fish water waste & vegetable farming?

We need the guidiance of gurus " @pavore9 & @soft777 " to see us through.

Enjoy the holiday.

soft777:
Some of us have been offered mouth watering offers by publishers to come up with books under there company name ,INNOVATIONS IN AQUAPONICS , HYDROPONICS , GELATIN FEEDS ; BIO GAS - making gas and electricity from animals, poultry and fish waste .... Introduction of first fresh water shrimp hatchery in Nigeria , polyculture of shrimp and tilapia raising them to table size with zero cost of feeding in 4 months and lots more ,,,We are ready to shear all this info with our dear colleagues
Re: Aquaponics: Growing (organic) Food In A Small Place & Making Good Money by Newway2(m): 7:43am On Dec 27, 2015
You had better strike a symbiotic deal with the fish farm to use the waste water such that the waste will water & fertilise your vegetable farm. If you can do that, you don't need to worry your head abt water & most importantly, manure/ferlizer as the waste has all the nutrients your vegetable farm will EVER need.

The challenge here is how to set up such farm in a small space with minimal cost such that it will be attractive enough to many people. & as I used to say our gurus @soft777 & @pavore9 will guide us.

Enjoy the holiday.

galvanised pipe is not good for irrigation.. it will get rusted in years to come..

PVC is OK..

If u want to go into aquaponics then be ready to fund it (1) u have to spend money on energy (2) u need to have testing equipment for pH testing, dissolve oxygen testing, ammonia nitrite and nitrate testing, u also have to supplément déficient nutrient not available in ur fish feed and last but not d least Know ur chemistry.

But from the pix of the green house Aquaponic farm of Rev Sisters shown by @pavore at the beging of the thread, it's obvious that it's not rocket science & one use local & common materials to build it.

NL-Agric is a knowledge based forum where everybody learn. Multiplication of thread does not make the whole infomation to be on the same board, thereby not making the thread to be rich. The thread/forum/board is not owned by ANYBODY. The Initator is just that.......an INITIATOR. C'est finnie!

For example this thread on Catfish ..............
https://www.nairaland.com/1240657/hidden-truths-catfish-business/242

.......... Was started in Mar 2013, & it has been a centrepoint of information/knowledge dissemination over the years. It has numerous contributors &expert contributing to & shapping the business with their submissions on the thread.

So my dear comrade @TheUnbeatable, there's nothing like derailment if it's the same topic. You are welcome & your contribution will be blessing to others.

As you used to say, God bless our hustle!

Sincerely,

TheUnbeatable:

I don't derail people's thread.
