Hi guys, so a funny thing happened to me yesterday and I'm sure several of you might have experienced the same either online or at a physical shop or supermarket.

I was browsing through one of the biggest online mobile phone retailers in Nigeria when I came across the deal of a lifetime on a Sony Xperia z3. N20,000 only. Had it been any other online store, I would have overlooked this deal as a sham but this particular retailer is trusted nationwide. I put down an order for one unit immediately. I received an email a few minutes later confirming my order with the same N20,000 indicated.

I was already planning on how to wrap this perfect Christmas gift for my loved one when, to my utter dismay, I received a call from the retailer informing me that the actual price of the phone was N120,000. I quickly refreshed the page on their website and found out they had corrected their error. Of course I immediately cancelled my order. Luckily it was "pay on delivery" so I didn't have to go through the long process of applying to get my money back.

I have read articles on similar errors made in developed countries where the retailers were required to go through with the deals as long as a deal had been struck.

My question is this..

When you catch a typographical error in an online store or even a supermarket or any service for that matter which obviously cheats the seller out of his own money do you think we as Nigerians have any standing to force the seller into going through with the deal?

What would you do?

Well, if you have paid and taken the product, you have a chance at keeping the good. But they can spot errors before payment and give you room to decide if you still want to go ahead with the purchase or not.
