Help Needed On VB.NET Program by ProudOlodo: 7:58am On Dec 27, 2015
I am a baby in programming and have been trying some few codes in VB 6.0 for a while. I recently got Visual Studio 2008 from a friend and loved it.

So I decided to replicate a small program I once toyed with in VB6...a client-server connection. I achieved it in VB6 using the winsock control but it seems the feature has been discontinued in VB.NET.

I know there would be a way to achieve the same function in Visual Studio 2008 but I have no idea how.

Please I need the help of programmers in the house. Thank you

OP, have you tried wireless connection? Maybe the visual stuff also needs an audio reception for its functional modalities to be in touch... lol.

Let's wait for the next poster, he'll have a better idea.

Thanks for coming in to help. But I'm not trying it out on a web application. It's a windows application to run on a local machine. But if the same procedure will apply, can u pls help provide some guidance on how to go about the code? I felt the Winsock control would have been replaced with another drag and drop control that I don't just know yet. Though I saw something on Sockets in my search, I don't know how to use it yet. I'll appreciate if you can shed more light. Thanks

Check the .Net framework library documentation to learn about new libraries and classes. Most of the legacy Win32 classes have been deprecated.
You can use the offline documentation or the online MSDN.

I used to program C#.Net. Since VB.Net is also built on the same framework/libraries. Check out this class   System.Net.Sockets.Socket https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.net.sockets.socket%28v=vs.110%29.aspx Try to check examples for VB

It's been a while I've used Visual Studio but I think on the windows form tool box there is a socket tool. This is the only GUI based way to quickly provision a connection. I might be wrong though.

Even if you have to hand-code it (Something VB programmer won't love) it's fairly simple if you read through the documentation and examples.

Don't mind Amicable09 o. But thanks chief. That link you provided does contain some useful info. I'll go back to chew it later, especially the sample code. God bless

Lol... I guess my suggestion didn't work for you because the port that should have enabled the connection of the local assembly has been distorted.

Anyway, datechman has provided a more simplified version of cracking open the ish. Thanks man but don't mind ProudOlodo lol... I tried to explain a little thing using programming language and he couldn't understand.

Let me also chew the biscuit you have offered us...lol.
